Linda Turner Brooks
SUMMERLEE — Linda Turner Brooks, 53, of Summerlee, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston.
Born on June 15, 1959, at Detroit, Mich., she was the daughter of the late Aaron Bruce and Betty Pierce Brooks.
Linda was a loving daughter, mother, and grandmother. She will always live in our hearts.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her ex-husband, William “Tic” Turner; daughter, Tina Lynn Turner; sisters, Marie Buckland, Brenda Maynor, and Sharon Legg; and brothers, Lloyd Brooks and John Brooks.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include her daughter, Megan Burton and her husband, Alan; stepson, Jacob Legg; grandchildren, Amalynn Paige Watters and Dustin Seth Watters; aunt, Carolyn Lambert; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Gary “Hippi” Agee, Teresa Young, and Jill Weeks; and she was like a mom to many.
In keeping with her wishes, she will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Lisa Cochran Carroll
KING GEORGE, Va. — It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved, Lisa Kaye Cochran Carroll, of King George, Va., formerly of Beckley. Lisa died Wednesday, April 10th, 2013, at Duke University Hospital following complications of a lung transplant. She was only 45 years of age.
Lisa was born on the 27th June, 1967, at Beckley. She was the daughter of Thomas Edward Cochran of Beckley and his fiancée, Ellen Allmon. She was preceded in death by her mother, Myrtle Lilly Cochran, and her stepmother, Patty Basham Cochran, and an infant son, Michael Joseph Carroll, on Dec. 6th, 2000.
Lisa spent her childhood in Beckley; she was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. Lisa furthered her studies at West Virginia Tech, graduating with a degree in computer science engineering. A resident of King George, Va., since 1996, Lisa worked for the federal government on a contract basis with the defense department. Lisa has been attending Solid Rock Baptist Church in King George.
Lisa was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Lisa had a great concern for young people that were in a troubled time in their lives. She will be remembered for taking them into her home to help them “get on the right path.” As Ellen Allmon reflected, “Lisa was a diamond.”
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, James “Jimmy” Carroll; her daughter, Courtney Dawn Venable; Jimmy’s children, Rachel Anne Carroll Lopez and her husband, Salvadore, and their son, Samuel, and James Vaughn Carroll; her brother, Tom Cochran Jr., and his wife, Vicky, of the Eastern San Francisco area in California; Ellen’s sons, Cody and Matthew Allmon; and a host of friends.
On Sunday, April 14th, at 2 p.m. we will remember the life of Lisa with a “Service of Remembrance” at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Denny Greenawalt will be officiating. Lisa will laid to rest in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.
The family will receive friends from noon until the service hour.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
