Ruth E. York

Ruth E. Allen York, 95, of Bolt, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 27, 2012, after a short illness.

Born March 8, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Henry Van and Eliza Snuffer Allen. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Ruth had lived in Bolt all of her life with the exception of 32 years residing in Glen Rogers, Wyoming County. She was a Christian, having attended Glen Rogers Community Church, Davis Camp Baptist Church and the Little Brown Derby Church, all where she served as Sunday School teacher. After moving back to her childhood home in Bolt, she returned to the beloved church she had grown up in, Breckenridge Missionary Baptist Church of Bolt, where she was a member, teacher, and past president of the Ladies Missionary Society.

She loved to travel, having made four trips to the Holy Land and to ten different countries, and having made her last trip to the Grand Canyon and Rocky Mountains. Ruth loved flowers, raising a garden, canning and preserving. Most of all, she loved the Lord and talking about all the blessings He had bestowed on her. Time spent with her family, especially all the “Little Ones,” was her most favorite. Her little dog, Taco, and her cat, Skitter, that she loved so will sadly miss her.

Ruth attended Trap Hill High School and received her high school diploma at the age of 53, and of this she was so proud, having finished second in her class.

Her most special cousin and lifelong best friend, Vallie McGraw, of Beckley. With only 38 days difference in their ages, at 95 they would still get together and sing their old school song.
