Wayne Cochran
Wayne Cochran, 83, of Alderson, WV, passed away Monday, August 30, 2010, in Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Ronceverte, WV.
Born October 6, 1926, in Lester, WV, he was the son of the late John and Myrtle Acord Cochran.
Wayne was a steel worker, retiring from LTV in Warren, OH. He was a WWII Army veteran and had been a resident of Alderson for the past 25 years.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son, John Craig Cochran; brothers: Cecil, Kyle and Bobby; and sisters: Edith, Ennis and Laura.
Survivors include his wife, Millie Milam Cochran, daughter, Brenda Carraher and husband Dennis of Johnson, OH, grandsons: Dennis Wayne and John Aubrey Carraher, sisters: Violet McKinney of Warren, OH, Edna Fox of Johnson, OH, Lakie Berry of Fredericksburg, VA, brother, Carlos Cochran and wife Carol of Scarbro, WV.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 4, 2010, in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Earl Snuffer officiating. Burial will follow in the Webb Cemetery at Lester. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Delores Jean (McCray) Conwell
Delores Jean Conwell (McCray), 76, of 105 Boblett Avenue, Beckley, WV, formerly of Huntington, WV, died August 27, 2010, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Born March 1, 1934, in Huntington, WV, she was the daughter of the late Alexander McCray and Emma Jackson McCray.
Mrs. Conwell was a member of Real Life Christian Center Church, Huntington, WV, and worked as a teacher’s aide.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mrs. Deborah Jamison.
Those left to cherish precious memories are her son, Charles E. Conwell, Jr., of Huntington, WV; daughter, Valerie J. (Charles) Hughes of Beckley, WV; brothers, Edward (Rosa) Jackson and John McCray, both of Huntington, WV; a niece, Mrs. Robbin (Liberace) Malbon of Columbus, OH; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, September 4, 2010, at Real Life Christian Center Church, 2511 9th Avenue, Huntington, WV, with Bishop Charles D. Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington, WV.
Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church.

UNION — Shirley Christine Brown Dunbar, 53, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at the Brian Center, Fincastle, Va.

Wayne Anthony Lopez
HOUSTON, Texas — In loving memory of Wayne Anthony Lopez of Houston, Texas, formerly of Scarbro, W.Va. He was born on Dec. 23, 1958. He lost a long battle to cancer on Aug. 29, 2010.
He was preceded in death by his mother Mary E Lopez of Oak Hill and mother-in-law Ora Marie Turley of Texas.
He is survived by brothers William Charles and Lois Lopez of Va., Roy Dale Lopez of Oak Hill, Ted Williams and Lisa Parrish of Scarbro, Dewayne Eddie (Fuzzy) Parrish of Oak Hill, and Ricky Allen Lopez of Scarbro. Sisters Alice Marie and Delmas West of Scarbro, Junie Ellen and Kenneth King of N.C., Rebecca Mae and Robert Webber of Mass., and Lisa Ann Lopez of N.C. A goddaughter, Victoria Turley of Texas.
Services will be at Cavazos funeral home, 2412 Little York Road, Houston, Texas 77093. Viewing will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3, 2010. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at Brookside Cemetery, 13401 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas.
Marilyn Chaffin Miller
On Friday, August 27th, 2010, our most loved Marilyn Chaffin Miller and her dear husband Melvin and their beloved daughter-in-law, Tina, perished in an automobile accident on Interstate 95 in Northern Virginia. They were en route to Beckley.
Marilyn Chaffin was born on August 29, 1939, at Sophia, the 4th of eight children born to the late Henry and Mabel Hodges Chaffin. A brother, Jack, and sister, Joann Graham, have preceded her in death.
Marilyn grew up in Sophia, graduating from Sophia High School, Class of 1957. After high school she settled in the Northern Virginia area, where she met her husband, Melvin, who was in service. They settled in Stafford where they have been longtime residents. Marilyn had a long career with Giant Foods in Stafford. Marilyn will be remembered for her outgoing personality. She loved to come back to Beckley to visit family, friends and former classmates.
Marilyn and Melvin were blessed to have two sons, Gregory Clifton who was married to the former Tina Wheby and Kenny Lee. They were the doting grandparents of one grandson Matthew and the proud great-grandparents of Emily Nicole. Marilyn was the fond sister of Thomas, John and Jimmy Chaffin all of Stafford, Brenda Reese of Frederick, MD, and Nancy Lytton of Beckley.
Joint services for Marilyn, Melvin and Tina will be held Thursday, Sept. 2nd (today), at 11 a.m. at the Choice Baptist Church in Stafford. Burial will follow for Marilyn and Melvin in the Quantico National Cemetery at Triangle, VA. Tina will be entombed at the Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at Fredericksburg, VA.
And so now we must remember, Philippians 4:7 “And the peace of God that passeth all understanding…”

Betty Ilene Halstead Nelson
SETH — Betty Ilene Halstead Nelson of Seth went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at the Heartland of Charleston.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, in the Healing Stream Baptist Church, Seth, with Pastor Paul Meadows. Interment will be in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Armstrong Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Healing Stream Baptist Church in memory of Betty Nelson.

Audrey Lusk Perry
CYCLONE — Audrey Lusk Perry, 86, of Cyclone, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, at Raleigh General Hospital.

Roger L. Peters
Roger L. Peters, 74, born October 7, 1935, passed away August 30, 2010, at the Delnor Hospital in Illinois.
He was the son of Dayton and Margaret Peters, deceased, of Montcoal, Raleigh County, West Virginia.
At the time of his death, he resided with his nephew Dean Peters, and his family in St. Charles, Illinois.
Born in Raleigh County, WV, he was a graduate of Marsh Fork High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society and played basketball and football. After high school, Roger attended West Virginia Institute of Technology and served four years in the U.S. Army. Following his service in the Army, he moved to Chicago, Illinois.
Roger had accepted the Lord as his Savior.
Roger is survived by his sister, Polly Ann Peters Kirk of Charleston, and her family, Kevin Kirk, wife, Beth, and children, Tyler and Kourtney, of Cross Lanes, brother James D. Peters, of Safety Harbor, Florida, and his family, son Dean, of St. Charles, Illinois, wife Laurie, and their children, Jacob, Joshua, and Michael, and daughter, Kimberly Theal, husband Dave, of Safety Harbor, Florida, and her sons, T.J. and Zach, and Darlene Vera of Austin, Texas, also sister Janet Michael of Glen Daniel, WV, and her family, daughter, Katrina, her husband Harold “Chip” Clay, and their daughters Kandace and Kaitlyn of Glen Daniel, WV, daughter, Michele Harmon, husband, Kerry, and their daughter Jordan of Charlotte, NC, son, Larry, wife, Kelly, and their children, Luke and Tanner, of Wake Forest, NC.
A memorial service will be held at the Coal Marsh Missionary Baptist Church, Saturday, September 4, at 3 p.m. Following the service, his remains will be scattered in the Peach Tree Falls area of Raleigh County.

Roy Theodore Phillips, 81, of Beckley, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010 at the Beckley VA Medical Center following a long illness.
