Carl W. Adams Jr.

Carl W. Adams Jr., age 66, of Beckley, passed away at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley on Thursday, April 10, 2014.

Born on July 19, 1947, at Slab Fork, he was the son of the late Carl W. Adams Sr. and Dorla Rowe Adams.

Mr. Adams was an employee of the Beckley VA Medical Center as the head chef in the dietary department. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Vietnam Conflict, and served in the medical unit in the U.S. Army Reserves for 20 years.

Mr. Adams was a member of the Fairdale Freewill Baptist Church at Fairdale. He enjoyed cooking, reading the Bible, and spending time with his family.

Mr. Adams was preceded in death by a son, Carl W. Adams III, and by a brother, Terry Lynn Adams.

Those surviving left to cherish his memory include his wife of nearly 46 years, Sherry Underwood Adams; a daughter, Shawnna McClanahan and her husband William V. McClanahan Jr., of Beckley; grandchildren, Robert Lee Adams and his wife Sam, stationed in Fort Campbell, Ky., Christopher Martin, of Beckley, Hayden McClanahan, of Beckley; two great-grandchildren, Kaleigh Adams and Cayden Adams; a daughter-in-law, Krystal Adams, of Raleigh; brothers, Mike Adams, of Soak Creek, Pastor Dean Adams and his wife Paula, of Daniels, Gary Adams and his wife Pam, of Daniels; and a sister, Brenda Grear and her husband Pastor Lonnie Grear. Many other extended family members and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at noon with his brother Pastor Dean Adams officiating, assisted by his brother-in-law, Pastor Lonnie Grear. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post No. 32 Honor Guard.

Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Adams, Timmy Adams, Lee Adams, Billy McClanahan, Thomas Bowers, Chris Martin, and honorary pallbearer will be Hayden McClanahan.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV, in memory of Mr. Carl W. Adams Jr.

The family extends special thanks to the Bowers Hospice House for the wonderful care given to Mr. Adams.
