Doris Jean Akers
PRINCETON — Doris Jean Akers, 80, of Princeton, formerly of Athens, died Thursday, November 14, 2013, at Princeton Health Care Center.
Born September 28, 1933, in Besoco, she was the daughter of the late Everett A. Bolen and Lillie Walker Cole Bolen.
Mrs. Akers was a graduate of Stoco High School at Coal City in Raleigh County. She was a former employee of Maidenform in Princeton. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She loved to garden, travel and go camping.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Frank B. Akers, in 2002; one infant brother, Joseph Cole Jr.; and one sister, Patricia Bailey.
Survivors include two daughters, Rhonda Akers Nash and husband Tim of Salem, Va., and Radene Akers Hinkle and husband Rodger of Princeton; grandchildren, Cheryl Myers, Lisa Nash, Michael Nash and Kristen Nash all of Salem, Va., Nicholas Akers Hinkle and Rebecca Akers Hinkle, both of Princeton; one great-grandson, Peyton Myers of Salem, Va.; one sister, Jacqueline Michael and husband Wilbur of Ravenna, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2013, at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton, with the Rev. Lacy Brooks officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Nash, Michael Nash, Rodger Hinkle, Nicholas Hinkle, Andy Croy and Tom Cook.
Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 15, at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
