William Albert ‘Bill’ Bollenbach

CLAYTON — William Albert “Bill” Bollenbach, age 81, of Clayton, W.Va., formerly of Kemblesville, Pa., passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at his home in Clayton, following a sudden illness.

Born November 22, 1932, in Wilmington, Del., he was the son of the late Otto A. and Martha Walker Bollenbach. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Samuel and Elizabeth Davis Walker; his first wife, Priscilla Richards Bollenbach; and a stepgranddaughter, Emily Ashmead.

Mr. Bollenbach was raised by his grandparents on a dairy farm in Centreville, Del., and graduated from A.I. DuPont High School in Wilmington, Del., where he was a member of the Future Farmers of America. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served our country in the United States Air Force. Mr. Bollenbach and his wife Peggy moved to West Virginia in 1991. He was a retired, self-employed farmer, having operated a cow-calf operation on his farm, Way Back Farm at Clayton, W.Va. Prior to his self-employment, he was a charter bus driver for a commercial bus company for many years. Mr. Bollenbach was Summers County Supervisor of the Southern Conservation District, Beckley, W.Va., and served as Chairman of the Board for eight years. He was a member of the Greenbrier County Farm Bureau and served as membership chairman of the West Virginia Farm Bureau. Mr. Bollenbach was a member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, and the Summers County and Greenbrier County Farm Bureaus for 50 years. He was a member of the Old Greenbrier Baptist Church, Alderson, W.Va., where he served as a deacon and was a member of the church choir. Mr. Bollenbach loved bluegrass music and enjoyed attending bluegrass festivals and he loved to travel, especially out west to visit ranches and to Nova Scotia.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Margaret Louise “Peggy” Borcherdt Bollenbach of Clayton, W.Va.; five children, Bill Bollenbach and his wife, LuAnn, of Coatesville, Pa., Debbie Canby of Kirkwood, Pa., Cindy Horton and her husband, Dean, of New London, Pa., Jeff Bollenbach and his wife, Elicia, of Oxford, Pa., and Cherie Saienni and her husband, Joe, of New London, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; five stepchildren, Johnny Miller of Bellingham, Wash., Suzie Ashmead and her husband, Ed, of Lincoln University, Pa., Mindy Collins and her husband, Bryan, of Bellingham, Wash., Jeb Miller and his wife, Kathy, of West Chester, Pa., and Meg Turpin and her husband, Traynter, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; 10 stepgrandchildren; a sister, Sarah Elizabeth Graf and her husband, Charlie, of Ocala, Fla.; three brothers, Michael Bollenbach and his wife, Sheila, of Sacramento, Calif., Fred Bollenbach and his wife, Mary, of Columbia, S.C., and Russ Fox and his wife, Jacque, of Cullman, Ala.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial services will be Monday, March 10, 2014, at 7 p.m. at the Old Greenbrier Baptist Church, Alderson, W.Va., with the Rev. Dr. Bill Bryan and the Rev. Mark Stauffer officiating. Friends may call Monday, March 10, 2014, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Old Greenbrier Baptist Church, Alderson, W.Va.

Edward Quinn Canterbury

Edward Quinn Canterbury, 77, of Beckley, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with Pastor Bill Parker officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum in Beckley. Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Violet Leona Chamberlain

HUNTINGTON — Violet Leona Chamberlain, 82, of Huntington, WV, a precious mom and now guardian angel to four children, six grandchildren, and one great-grandson, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014.

Born May 20, 1931, Violet was the daughter of the late James and Delta Poe.

Violet was an avid Bingo player and sports fan. She especially enjoyed the Atlanta Braves, Pittsburgh Pirates, and any activities in which her grandchildren participated. Violet also enjoyed cooking, and was known for her German chocolate cake. She shared her culinary skills during her career as the head cook at Midway Elementary for many years.

In addition to her parents, Violet is preceded in death by her husband Darnley Chamberlain Sr.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Linda Doniece Blair and husband Dennis of Beckley, WV; Darnley “Don” Chamberlain Jr. and wife Martha of Murray, KY; Tammy McKinney and husband Jerry of Beckley, WV; Wanda Chamberlain Dyke of Huntington, WV; Grandchildren, Lee Blair and wife Shannon of Martinsburg, WV; Lindsay Chamberlain of Wilmington, NC; Mark Chamberlain of Pittsburgh, PA; Derek McKinney and wife Caitlyn of Huntington, WV; G. Austin McKinney of Beckley, WV; Sarah Elizabeth Dyke of Huntington, WV; Great-grandson, Jonah Hugh McKinney; Brother, Billy “Bud” Poe and wife Jean of Princeton; and many nieces and nephews.

The Chamberlain family would like to express their gratitude to the SICU doctors and nursing staff at Cabell Huntington Hospital as well as special thanks to Dr. Charles Meadows, Violet’s family physician.

The family would also like to thank Brenda and many other friends in Huntington for their kindness and thoughtfulness.

OCEANA — Jeffrey Dennis Elkins, 49, of Oceana passed away Friday, March 7, 2014, at the Charleston Area Medical Center, Charleston.

Born June 27, 1964, at Welch, WV, he was the son of Walter George Elkins, Jr., and Bonnie Sue Bowling Elkins of Pineville.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his fiancée of 9 years Linda Kazman of Oceana; His children, Jeffrey Kyle Elkins and wife, Kasey, of Lynco, Heath Alexander “Alex” Elkins of Oceana, Carly Elkins of Virginia, Makayla Elkins of Florida; A brother, Paul Gregory Elkins of Pineville; A sister, Angela Rae Elkins of Pineville; Niece, Emmalee Elkins; Nephew, Zach Elkins; 8 stepgrandchildren.

William Kelsey ‘Bill’ McClure

PRINCETON — William Kelsey “Bill” McClure, 97, of the Athens Road in Princeton, died Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Glenwood Retirement Village following a long illness.

Born June 30, 1916, in Ivanhoe, Virginia, he was the son of the late Julia Ann McClure.

Mr. McClure was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army, while serving his country; he received a Purple Heart Medal, being wounded in combat while serving in Germany. He was also awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Defense Service Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars.

McClure was a retired electrical worker for both the Virginian & Norfolk & Western Railroad with 31 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Oleta Ruth McClure along with a sister-in-law, Mary Lester.

Survivors include his God child, whom he raised as a daughter, Sabrina Hager and husband Joe of Triangle, VA, and special friends and caregivers, Richard V. and Donna G. Poff of Princeton. His brother-in-law, Harry “Buzz” Lester of Rock, MI.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014, from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Orville Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. The staff of Memorial will serve as pallbearers.

Thelma Jean Mounts

Thelma Jean Mounts, 93, of Stanaford, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014, at Raleigh General Hospital following an extended illness.

She was born on the 6th day of March in 1921 to the late Calvin Caudill and Lula Walker Caudill.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Mounts; and a sister, Cleo Jennings.

Survivors include her children, Edwin Cadle and wife Sue of MacArthur, Frank Cadle of Crab Orchard, Jack Cadle of Mabscott, and Billie Lafferty and husband Dennis of Rosenberg, TX; siblings, Tommie McCallough of Oroville, California, Charles Chamberlin of Willow Cove, TX, Billie Hutchens and husband Benny of Coal City, and Gwinn Caudill of Abingdon, VA; also surviving her are a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends.

Graveside rites and entombment will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2014, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum #3 Chapel of Faith in Prosperity with Rev. Glen Kuhn officiating.

Friends may call at the mausoleum from noon until time of service on Monday.

Charles Ottoway Stafford

MONTVILLE, Ohio — Charles Ottoway Stafford, 81, of Montville, OH, formerly of Fanrock, WV, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2014.

He was born July 11, 1932, in Fanrock, WV, a son of the late Ottoway and Margaret Lockhart Stafford.

Charles was a 25-year Montville resident. He was a Purple Heart recipient with the Army’s 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team during Korea.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by four sisters Margaret Jackson, Inez Rose, Anna Lee Stafford, and Joan Deerfield; three brothers Earnest Stafford, Harry Stafford, Sr., and Johnny Stafford.

Survivors include his loving wife Judy Hilger Stafford of Montville, OH; his children Melinda Costanzo of Virginia Beach, VA, Debra Stafford of Brookpark, OH, Charles (Nancy) Stafford, Jr., of Berea, OH, Terry Stafford, Sr., and Tammy (Chris) Conrad of Brookpark, OH, Julie Nagy and Jason (Peggy) Nagy of Nebraska; a sister Vera (Russell) Potter of Helen; two brothers Bob Stafford of Pineville, and Jacob (JoAnn) Stafford of Oceana; 23 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving family and friends.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2014, in the Burr Funeral Home, Chardon, OH.

OAK HILL — Lola Wolney, 92, of Oak Hill passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014.

She was born on June 5, 1921, in Fayetteville to the late Camillo and Palmira Peraldo.

Lola was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Oak Hill.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wolney; and sisters, Bruna Peraldo Fondale and Zara Peraldo Solari.
