Zella Graybeal Ford
Zella Graybeal Ford, 81, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, June 24, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in 1931 to the late Larry Lee and Thena Graybeal of Renick, W.Va. Upon graduating with a B.S. degree in Education from WVU, Zella taught at Rainelle and Renick High Schools until her marriage to Benjamin Franklin “Frank” Ford in 1958.
Upon her husband’s death in 1972, Zella continued to raise her five children while maintaining the family farm that she took such pride in. She was an active member of Calvary UMC in the Richlands where she served as the organist for 34 years, planned numerous programs, and served on many committees. Zella was a member of United Methodist Women Richlands Charge as well as the Richlands CEOS and PEO Sisterhood. Her service to the community was exemplary and far reaching.
Zella is survived by five children and eight grandchildren who adored her. Survivors include: Jayne Ann Ford and children, Cole and Kelly Hanson of Lewisburg; Glen Franklin Ford, his wife Christy, and children Jessie and Frank of Lewisburg; Nancy Lee Morgan, her husband, Cecil and daughter Gracelyn of Roanoke, Va.; Mary Jo Jouver and husband, Joe of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Linda Susan King, her husband, Jim, and children Griffin, Karly, and Kyle of Lewisburg. Zella is also survived by her sister-in-law, Louise Graybeal of Renick, as well as several special nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Zella was preceded in death by brothers, Larry Brown Graybeal, John Fields Graybeal, and Walter Graybeal, and sisters, Ethel Doyle and Alice Richards.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home. A celebration of Zella’s life will be held at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2013, with Rev. Ron Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Rosewood Cemetery.
