Edna Garnette Cook Hatfield

TURKEY CREEK — Edna Garnette Cook Hatfield, 83, of Turkey Creek, went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, May 9, 2013, at the Wyoming County Nursing and Rehab Center, New Richmond.

Born February 2, 1930, at Turkey Creek, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Goff Cook and Emily Vida Cook of Turkey Creek.

Mrs. Hatfield was a devoted and lifelong member of the Turkey Creek Missionary Baptist Church. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all. Her hobbies and life’s enjoyment came from gardening, canning, and going for walks with “the girls.”

Her favorite Bible passage was Isaiah 40:31 — “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” We know now that her strength has been renewed and she has mounted up as an eagle with her Lord.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Rush Hatfield; four brothers, Joseph G. Cook Jr., Noel V. Cook, Algie B. Cook and Roscoe Cook; three sisters, Naomi Wiles, Ruth McKinney and Gladys Cook.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel L. Hatfield and his wife, Linda, of Turkey Creek and  Michael R. Hatfield and his wife, Rhonda, of Turkey Creek; a daughter, Rhonda C. Paugh and her husband, Jerry, of Keyrock Road; eight grandchildren, Christopher M. Hatfield of Turkey Creek, Angela L. Jarrell of Beckley, Melissa S. Tackett of Charleston, Tracy N. Bledsoe of Pineville, Samantha K. Hatfield of Turkey Creek, Stephanie R. Henderson of Fairmont, Shana R. White of Pineville and Nicholas R. Paugh of Keyrock; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Myrtle Cline, Grace Cook, Audie Bottomlee and her husband, J.P.; three sisters-in-law, Vennie Hatfield, Lorene Hatfield and Ruth Hatfield.

She is also survived by a large host of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Garnette’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 2013, at the Turkey Creek Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Glenn Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013, at the funeral home.

The honor of being pallbearers will be given to family and friends.

The family of Mrs. Hatfield would like to express their most sincere thank you to Dr. Scott Keffer and the staff of Wyoming County Continuous Care Center.
