Mollie Marie Dawson
Mollie Marie Dawson, 76, of Beckley, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, May 5, 2013, following a long illness.
Born September 6, 1936 in McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Iva Mae Collie Lambert.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her late husband Eugene Dawson, and seven brothers and sisters.
Those left to cherish her memory include her two daughters, Sue Nelson, and Genia Acord, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren, her brother Ray Lambert, and her two sisters, Maxine Bowles, and Charlotte Murphy Huffman, and a host of nieces and nephews and beloved friends.
Services will be held Thursday, May 9, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Sophia with the Rev. Danny Bowles officiating. Following the service she will be laid to rest in the Hot Coal Cemetery.

Katie Campbell Gibson
ADVANCE — Mrs. Katie Campbell Gibson, 78, of Advance, passed away Monday, May 6, 2013, at Somerset Court of Mocksville.
She was born September 16, 1934 in Layland, W.Va., to Jessie Ervin and Alma Fox Martin.
Mrs. Gibson retired from Hanes Narrow Fabrics and was a member of New Visions Baptist Church, formerly Victory Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everette Wyatt Campbell; a grandson, Chris Harp and a brother Kenneth Martin.
Surviving are a son, Charles Campbell and wife Ardis of Canton; three daughters, Cindy Johnson and husband Vic of Advance, Cathy Gill and husband Carl Ray of Clemmons and Melinda Angell and husband Chris of Advance; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and three sisters, Marjorie Ness of Lewisburg, W.Va., Audrey Hatfield of Summersville, W.Va., and Patricia Vandall of Mocksville, N.C.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2013, at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel, with Dr. Mike Duffield officiating. Burial will follow in New Vision Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

John William ‘Johnny G’ Griffith
PINEVILLE — John William “Johnny G” Griffith, 49, of Pineville, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013.

On Sunday, May 5th, 2013, our most cherished, Catherine Pate Hutchens of Beckley, passed away at the Raleigh Center in Daniels following a short illness.
The first of five children, Catherine Marie Pate was born at Ferrum, Va. She was the daughter of late John Flemon and Josie Ethel Radford Pate. Catherine’s sister, Geraldine Price and brothers, Chester and Junior Elvie Pate have preceded her in death.
Catherine was the beloved wife of Ross Avery Hutchens. This past Feb. 7th, they celebrated 66 years of marriage.
Catherine and Ross were both graduates of Mark Twain High School, Class of 1942. Upon graduation, Catherine went to work for the Koppers Coal Company/Eastern Gas and Fuel Associates, at Helen, and later the Slab Fork Coal Company, at Slab Fork, until her retirement in 1983. During this time, Catherine received an Associate Degree in Education from Beckley College.
To the union of Ross and Catherine was born one son, William Ross “Buddy” Hutchens. The family would worship at the United Methodist Temple, where they very active members. Catherine was also very active in the work of the United Methodist Women. In 1965, Buddy graduated from high school and left for Davis and Elkins College. Ross and Catherine started square dancing for fun and relaxation. They spent many hours travelling and making new friends. Tragically, Buddy died in 1989, after a short battle with cancer.
In addition to Ross, those left to cherish Catherine’s memory is her sister, Christine Matthews and her husband, Wadesworth of New Bern, N.C.; niece, Deborah Price Barker and her husband, John; nephews, John Edgar Price and Brian Pate; her sister-in-law, Betty Pate Craddock and her husband, David; Ross and Catherine’s daughter-in-law, Vickie Price Hutchens Sells and her husband, Jerry; Catherine was the dearest “Maw Maw” to Luke Spurgeon, Mikaela and Laura Rose Atkinson; many old friends also survive, as well as Ross and Catherine’s church family at the United Methodist Temple.
On Thursday, May 9th, at 2 p.m. we will remember Catherine Hutchens with a “Service of Thanksgiving for a Life Well Lived” at the United Methodist Temple. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the service hour. The Revs. Randy Adkins and Michael Atkinson will be officiating. Catherine will then be laid to rest in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity beside her beloved Buddy.
The honor of carrying Catherine goes to John Barker, Luke Spurgeon, Bill Straub Jr., David Craddock, Ralph Smith, and Walt Winant. Honorary pallbearers are, AK Minter, Fred Hill, and Bill Jameson.

Dallas E. ‘Bud’ Mann
HILLDALE — Dallas E. “Bud” Mann, 73, of Hilldale, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Monday May 6, 2013 at his home following a long illness.
Born January 27, 1940, at Talcott, he was the son of the late Ershal and Elizabeth Meadows Mann.
Mr. Mann was a graduate of Talcott High School and was also a graduate of Beckley College and Concord College. He was a retired teacher for the Summers County system with 40 years of service, having taught at Forest Hill, Talcott and Summers Middle Schools. Mr. Mann was also a coach for 40 years in multiple sports including basketball, football and golf. He was an avid golfer. He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Methodist Church at Hilldale where he held multiple offices.
He was preceded in death by a son, Devon Mann and also by a brother, Donnie Mann.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Jeanette Chattin Mann; Three sons, Chris Mann and wife Roberta of Talcott, Shawn Mann and wife Faye of Hilldale and Derek Mann and wife Carrie of Hans Creek; four grandchildren, Shawnory, Shaelin, Makenna and Myla; one brother, Darrell Mann and wife Janice of Bellepoint and one sister, Alana Susan Wynes and husband Michael of Lowell. A very special niece, Michaela Wynes.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton, with Rev. Glen Pysell officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Methodist Church Cemetery at Hilldale. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Patricia Ann ‘Nana’ Stefancic Turnmire
ASHLAND, Ky. — Patricia Ann “Nana” Stefancic Turnmire, 75, of Ashland, Ky., formerly of Buffalo, N.Y., on May 6, 2013, was escorted by angels to be with the lord, with family by her side at the Ashland Community Hospice Care Center after a long battle with cancer.
She was born November 7, 1937, in Stephenson, W.Va. She was the daughter of the late Frances Spencer Stefancic and the late Frank Stefancic.
Patricia was a baptized member of the Oak Street Freewill Baptist Church in Flatwoods, Ky.
In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her loving husband Bobby Hugh Turnmire in November of 1997.
Patricia is survived by her son Richard Hugh Turnmire of Buffalo, NY, daughter Susan Lynn Duncan (spouse Craig Duncan) of Buffalo, NY and daughter Carol Ann Collier (spouse Gregory Collier) of Ashland, KY. Her children were the joy of her life but her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the sparkle in her eye, surviving are seven granddaughters, two grandsons and six great granddaughters. Surviving Patricia are sisters Jacqueline Stefancic WIlcox of Allen Junction, WV, and Jeanette Stefancic Greer of Helen, WV, brother Robert Stefancic of Colorado Springs, CO.
Siblings that preceded her in death were Jimmy Spencer, Eugene, Ramona, Sontie and Stephen Stefancic. Also surviving special sisters in law Betty Turnmire Smith (spouse Bob Smith), Bonnie Turnmire Wynn and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013, at the Welton Bible Chapel, Allen Junction with Rev. Gilbert Dodson officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the church.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Oretha ‘Ann’ Vass
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Oretha “Ann” Vass, 81, of Springfield, Ohio, formerly of Salt Sulphur Springs, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013.
She was born June 4, 1931, at Salt Sulphur Springs, W.Va., a daughter of the late John and Lila Ashworth Fullen.
Mrs. Vass worked as a bookkeeper for Ferncliff Cemetery for 23 years.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred T. Vass, a brother, Albert Fullen and sister-in-law, Frances Fullen.
Surviving are her children, Tom Vass, Elizabeth Lepisto and husband, Sauli, Lila McCabe and husband Steve; grandson Aaron Lepisto; brothers, Bernard Fullen and wife, Virginia, John Fullen and wife, Marguirite; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2013, at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union with the Rev. Jim Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery at Keenan.
