Edward Cecil Bowles, 64, of Sand Branch, died on Monday, July 15, 2013, at Specialty Select Hospital at St. Francis in Charleston, W.Va.
Born March 16, 1949, at Beckley, he was the son of the late Cecil and Constance Dowdy Bowles.
He was a retired butcher.
Mr. Bowles was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one son, Noah Bowles of Sand Branch.
In accordance with his wishes Mr. Bowles was cremated. A memorial service will be on Friday, July 19, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope with Rev. Jerry Tyree officiating. Friends may call fifteen minutes prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.

George William ‘Bill’ (Pappy D.) Dickson
George William “Bill” “Pappy D.” Dickson, 85, of Beckley, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.
Born February 25, 1928, at Harvey, he was the son of the late Edgar Washington and Beatrice Donnelly Dickson.
Mr. Dickson was a retired WV State Trooper with 30 years service. He drove a school bus for the Raleigh County Board of Education for 10 years.
He and his wife, Frieda are members of the Clifftop Baptist Church on Airport Road at Beaver.
His most important service was his ministry and service to God. He pastored at Sweeneysburg Baptist Church for several years and also at the New Haven Baptist Church in Cool Ridge. He also evangelized with a group of WV State Troopers who traveled around West Virginia and surrounding states witnessing and preaching to many people.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Six brothers, Johnny, Orville, Junior, Bob and two infant boys and one sister, Beulah Greene preceded him in death.
Survivors include his loving and faithful wife of 60 years, Frieda Mae Garrett Dickson and many relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at noon on Friday, July 19, 2013, at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor John Ed Lilly officiating. Burial will be at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Gary Wayne Evans
Gary Wayne Evans, age 53, of Ghent, departed this life on Monday, July 15, 2013, at his home following a sudden illness.
Born on June 29, 1960, in Columbus, Ga., he was the son of Fern Sizemore Evans of Grandview and the late Gary L. Evans.
Mr. Evans was former owner and operator of Evans Motor Sales in Beckley. He was a life time resident of Raleigh County, and was a property owner in Glade Springs, Daniels, W.Va. Mr. Evans was an avid golfer, NASCAR fan, and enjoyed all sports, and spending time with his children.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant brother in 1957, by uncles Earl Evans and Bill Drumheller, by maternal grandparents, Kelly and Mossie Sizemore, and by paternal grandparents, Vaden and Juanita Evans and a cousin, Craig Dorsey.
Other than his mother Fern Evans, survivors include his children, Tyler Evans of Beckley, and Sydni Evans of Beckley, a brother, Eric Evans and his wife Angie of Shady Spring, aunts and uncles, Jean Drumheller of Beckley, Polly Woodie of Covington, Virginia, Sue Halsey and her husband Karnis of Sophia, Jim Sizemore and wife Linda of Sophia, Mark Sizemore and wife Kathy of Midway, his companion Linda Lively of Ghent, several nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, and other family and friends.
Graveside Rites and Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley on Friday, July 19, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. with Mr. Rick Snuffer officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Friday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., where a funeral procession will then immediately leave to travel to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Evans, James and Mark Sizemore, Mark Tredway, Tony Gibson, and Chris Bolen.

ALDERSON — Christopher Allen “Chris” Jones of Alderson, died from injuries suffered during a single car accident on Sunday morning July 14th 2013.
Born December 9th 1962, Chris was the son of Albert and Opal Jones, formerly of Clintonville, W.Va.
A graduate of Greenbrier West High School, Chris had recently returned to the area after a career in demolitions and asbestos removal.
Chris was preceded in death by his father Albert, and four older siblings, Albert Jr., Jimmy, Lynn and Vernon Jones.
Chris is survived by his mother Opal, and siblings; Inez (Jones) Thomas of San Diego, Calif., Dennis Floyd Jones of Pittsburgh, Pa., Jeffery Jones of Alderson, Kenneth Jones of Morgantown, W.Va., David Jones of San Francisco, Calif., Kevin Jones of Ashburn, Va., Debbie Jones of Lansing, Mich., Michael Jones of Uniontown, Pa., their families and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held this Saturday, July 20th, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church of Alderson, with Rev. Robert Frazier and Rev. Greg Scott officiating.

Master Chief James A. McManamay, U.S. Navy, Ret.
SEVERNA PARK, Md. — Master Chief James A. McManamay, U.S. Navy, Ret., of Severna Park, died Saturday, July 13, 2013, from cardiac arrest.
Born February 12, 1941, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Lura Cook McManamay and Frank McManamay.
Other than his parents, his was preceded in death by his youngest brother, Jerry Wayne McManamay.
James joined the Navy in October 1959 and was stationed in Rhode Island, Morgantown WV, San Diego, Norfolk, Pearl Harbor, and Annapolis. He retired after 30 years of service, in November of 1989, as a Master Chief Petty Officer and Boiler Technician. After his military retirement, he worked as the building coordinator in Alumni Hall at the United States Naval Academy, taking his second retirement in October 2012, with over 50 years of government service.
James was a member of Severna Park United Methodist Church where he served as an usher and was an Eagle Scout and a leader in the Scout Troop 993 for 20 years, continuing to volunteer even after his sons earned the rank of Eagle and left the troop. He was very proud that between his brothers, sons, and nephews there were seven Eagle Scouts in the family.
Among his other accomplishments, he was a 32nd degree Mason of the Glen Burnie Lodge, a member of the Troop 993 OFs, a sponsor of USNA midshipmen, and avid supporter of Navy Football and Basketball.
He was a loving husband, father, family member, neighbor, mentor, and friend to many.
James is survived by his wife of 42 years, Betty (Hoard) McManamay; four sons, Steven of Crofton, Md., Matthew of Parkville, Md., Tim Poland of Kitty Hawk, N.C., Dr. Frank Poland of Beckley; two grandsons, Steven James and Nathan; three granddaughters, Lila Kate, Laci, and Jenna. He is also survived by two brothers, Tom McManamay, COL, USA, Ret. of KY, Paul McManamay of Beckley; and three sisters, Jean Hilbert of Beckley, Joann Brick of Windfield, W.Va., and Janet Vandall of Lynchburg Va.; along with many loving nieces and nephews.
According to his wishes, James donated his body to science. A memorial service will be Saturday, July 20, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Severna Park United Methodist Church, 731 Benfield Road, Severna Park, Md., where the family would like to welcome all those who knew Jim to join them in celebrating his life. Please wear bright colors to the memorial.

FOREST HILL — Iris M. McNeer, 86, of Forest Hill, passed away at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at the Summers Nursing and Rehab Center following a long illness.
Born March 25, 1927, in Marie, she was the daughter of the late Edgar L. and Blanche Shumate McNeer.
Iris was a graduate of Forest Hill High School and a retired employee of the Celanese Corporation in Narrows, Va. She was a member of Forest Hill United Methodist Church, was always involved in community projects, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred H. McNeer, and by one nephew, Ronald McNeer.
Survivors include sisters Erma G. Grimmett of Barger Springs, W.Va. and Wanda Bennett of Hinton, sister-in-law Betty McNeer of Forest Hill, nine nephews and nieces, 17 great-nieces and nephews, and several great-great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 19th at the Pivont Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at the Forest Hill Methodist Church Cemetery.
Friends may call from 12 to 1 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Geneva Joyce Spade, 82, of Bradley, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at the Bowers Hospice House following a long illness.
Born October 28, 1930, at Amigo, W.Va., the daughter of the late Jess Underwood and Lola (Vaught) Underwood.
Geneva was a member of the Cranberry Baptist Church at Beckley.
Geneva was born a coal miner’s daughter. She was a precious mother. She was a military wife who was devoted to the military. She had worked in civil service with the U.S. Army at Vint Hill Farms Station near Warrenton, Va. She supported the boy and girl scouts of America, enjoyed traveling and had traveled throughout most of the United States.
In 2009, Geneva was preceded in death by her loving husband George Eldred Spade Sr.
Those left to cherish her memory include one daughter Carolyn Sue Gillum and husband Eddie of Hampton, Va.; one son George Spade Jr. of Hampton, Va.; seven siblings Lois Smith and husband Richard of Huntington, Rita Cunningham of Beckley, Eugene Underwood of Roanoke, Va., Brenda Sue McKay of Vinton, Va., Bobby Underwood of Roanoke, Va., Nancy Sanders of Fincastle, Va., and Karen Hilton of Roanoke, Va.; three grandchildren Stephen, Shannon and Michael; and one special family member Debbie Covey and her husband Donald, and their four children.
Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the Cranberry Baptist Church, 201 Cranberry Drive, Beckley with Pastor Roger Pauley officiating and where the family will receive friends from noon until time of service. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

OAK HILL — Larry Clinton Treadway, 63, of Oak Hill, passed away peacefully Monday, July 15, 2013, at his home following a short illness.
Born June 29, 1950, at Beckley, he was the son of the late Eugene Debba Treadway and Margie Clay Treadway.
Larry attended the Gospel Tabernacle at Oak Hill.
Since his retirement as an electrician and master plumber with the West Virginia Turnpike, he enjoyed bowling, racing his race car on the dirt track at Bradley, and watching NASCAR on television.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Shirley Ann (Pack) Treadway, three biological children; two step sons James McCoy of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Robert McCoy and his wife Jennifer of Kentucky; two special sisters-in-law Theresa Pack and her husband Dallas of Oak Hill and Susie Duncan and her husband Freddie of Oak Hill; one brother; three sisters; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews; a special niece Debbie Ward and her husband Jesse of Oak Hill; and his two boston terriers Trixie and Dixie.
His remains rest at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday July 19, 2013. Larry will be cremated and laid to rest in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. There will be no funeral service.

Georgena ‘Jeanne’ Hoskins Zyto
Georgena “Jeanne” Hoskins Zyto, 70, of Beckley, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 16, 2012.
Born November 29, 1942, she was the daughter of the late George Wendell and Eva Stover Hoskins.
Jeanne enjoyed entertaining family and friends, loved music and theatre, photography, flower gardening, and recently remodeling the home place in Sweeneysburg. Each visit home from Virginia was like a holiday event, showering all the kids with gifts and attention. Jeanne attended Cirtsville Elementary, Woodrow Wilson High School and Beckley College. She worked at Leeds Dept. Store after graduating school; Jeanne moved to Alexandria, Va. area where she worked in the insurance industry and was Vice President of Armco Leasing Co. before retiring and returning to WV. She was a member of the Maynor Freewill Church in Maynor, W.Va.
In addition to her parents, Jeanne is preceded in death by her husband, Greg Zyto; sisters, Patricia Hoskins and Janice Nicely; brother, Harold Gene Hoskins; nephew, George Barber.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Louise Barber of Sweenysburg; brother, Grady Hoskins and wife Peggy of Beckley, Howard Hoskins and wife Patricia of Beckley, Harry Hoskins and wife Nancy Pat of Beckley; step-daughter, Gabrielle Littlefield and husband Casey of Bumpass, Va.; step-son, George Zyto and wife Dawn of Stafford, Va.; grandson, Mason Littlefield of Bumpass, Va.; eight nephews and nieces and 17 great nephews and nieces.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Pastor Larry Brown of the Maynor Freewill Baptist Church and Pastor Jim Bowyer of the Maple Fork Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be, Terry Hoskins, Chad Hilton, Kevin Hoskins, David Nicely, David Nicely Jr., Casey Littlefield, and honorary pallbearer Bert Beadle.
