Jason David Arthur
Jason David Arthur, age 30, of Grandview, WV, passed away at his home on Friday, July 12, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on September 19, 1982, in Beckley, he was the son of Rudy Arthur and Patricia Scott Arthur of Grandview.
Jason was an employee of the Shady Spring Public Service District as a lineman. He was a member of the Grandview Christian Church, and had been a lifelong resident of Grandview. Jason was a graduate of Shady Spring High School. He was the “world’s best talker.”
Jason was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jim and Ruth Scott, and by his paternal grandparents, Rudolph and Peggy Arthur.
Surviving are his wife Felicia Raines Arthur, two children, Natalie and Kinsey Arthur, both at home. Several aunts, uncles, and cousins are also among his survivors.
A memorial service will be conducted to Celebrate The Life Of Jason David Arthur on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at the Grandview Christian Church at 3 p.m. with Pastor Terry Newton officiating.
Friends may visit with the family at the church from 2 p.m. until service time on Saturday.

Edward Cecil Bowles, 64, of Sand Branch, died on Monday, July 15, 2013.

Bessie Irene Cawley Corder
FAYETTEVILLE — Bessie Irene Cawley Corder, 99, passed away Monday, July 15, 2013, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley.
Born on December 29, 1913, at Poca, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Canna B. Cox Cawley.
Mrs. Corder was a longtime member of Cotton Hill Missionary Baptist Church at Beckwith. She was the oldest living graduate of her class at East Bank High School. Mrs. Corder and her late husband, Otis, were owners and operators of Corder’s General Store at Beckwith. She was a past matron of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 107 at Oak Hill.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Meade Corder on June 27, 1978.
Left to cherish her memory include her two sons, Otis Meade Corder Jr. of Oak Hill and Robert Allen Corder of Fayetteville; one grandson, Timothy Corder; one granddaughter, Tiffany Turpin; and two great-granddaughters.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 18, 2013, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity with Pastor Mack Canterbury officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Blue Ridge Funeral Home at Prosperity.
A “Memorial Service and Celebration of Her Life” will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 17, 2013, at Cotton Hill Missionary Baptist Church at Beckwith.

Gary Wayne Evans
Gary Wayne Evans, age 53, of Ghent, departed this life on Monday, July 15, 2013 at his home following a sudden illness.
Born on June 29, 1960, in Columbus, Ga., he was the son of Fern Sizemore Evans of Grandview and the late Gary L. Evans.
Mr. Evans was former owner and operator of Evans Motor Sales in Beckley. He was a life time resident of Raleigh County, and was a property owner in Glade Springs, Daniels, W.Va. Mr. Evans was an avid golfer, NASCAR fan, and enjoyed all sports, and spending time with his children.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant brother in 1957, by uncles Earl Evans and Bill Drumheller, by maternal grandparents, Kelly and Mossie Sizemore, and by paternal grandparents, Vaden and Juanita Evans.
Other than his mother Fern Evans, survivors include his children, Tyler Evans of Beckley, and Sydni Evans of Beckley, a brother, Eric Evans and his wife Angie of Shady Spring, aunts and uncles, Jean Drumheller of Beckley, Polly Woodie of Covington, Virginia, Sue Halsey and her husband Karnis of Sophia, Jim Sizemore and wife Linda of Sophia, Mark Sizemore and wife Kathy of Midway, his companion Linda Lively of Ghent, several nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, and other family and friends.
Graveside Rites and Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley on Friday, July 19, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. with Mr. Rick Snuffer officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Friday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., where a funeral procession will then immediately leave to travel to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Evans, James and Mark Sizemore, Mark Tredway, Tony Gibson, and Chris Bolen.

Donald Keith Gombert
Donald Keith Gombert, 76, of Beckley, passed away at home Monday, July 15, 2013, surrounded by his family.
Born April 19, 1937, in Ravenna, Ohio, he was the son of the late Harrison Rudolph and Gladys Evelyn Stamm Gombert.
Besides his parents, Donald was preceded in death by sister, Betty Ann Gombert; brother William Gombert and sister-in-law, Florence Betty Gombert.
Donald was a building code plans examiner for the City of Beckley Code Enforcement Department and was appointed by Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin to serve on the Design Build Board, an honorary position. He was a longtime member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ where he served as a Deacon, adult Sunday school teacher, past Chairman of the Church Board and past Building Department Chairman. He was also on the Salvation Army Advisory Board, CAWV Board member, the AIA Rotary International and retired from SEM Partners.
Donald is survived by his wife, Karen “Tipper” Gombert of Beckley; daughters, Debra Segal and her husband Michael of Rye Brook, NY and Denise Herold and her husband Jay of Columbus, Ohio; son, Brandon Scott Privett of Winston Salem, NC; daughter, Jeanne McKan and her husband Jerry of Beckley; granddaughter, Samantha Tyrrell and her husband Chris of Columbus, GA; grandson, James A. Steiner of Columbus, OH, granddaughter, Corinne Segal of Rye Brook, NY, grandson, Derrick Steiner of Columbus, OH; granddaughter, Cynthia Segal of Rye Brook, NY; grandson, Anthony Privett of Lexington, NC; grandson, Elijah McKan of Beckley; granddaughter, Jillian McKan of Beckley; granddaughter, Cameron Privett of Lexington, NC; great-grandchildren, Hailey Christopher and Owen Tyrrell.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013, at the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Snyder officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where American Legion Post 32 will conduct military honors.

Frank Lich, 79, passed away into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 13, 2013, at Baptist Medical Center South in Jacksonville, Fla.
He was born in Oak Hill, W.Va., in 1933 to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lich.
Frank served in the U.S. Army during the time of the Korean War. Frank went on to help write the parts catalog for American Motors in Milwaukee, WI. He then became a successful parts manager for several auto dealerships in the Jacksonville area. He finished his working life in the City of Jacksonville motor pool. He enjoyed playing golf and fishing, once winning a catfish tournament. He generously supported causes close to his heart such as the Wounded Warriors Project.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Loretta Jean. Frank is survived by his son, Rodney Lich, his daughter-in-law, Sarah, and his grandson, Andrew, all of Middleburg, FL. He is also survived by his brother, Edward of Collierville, TN; and sisters, Mary Zahn of Raleigh, NC, Margaret Childers of Vancouver, WA, and Sheila Dawson of Bend, OR.
Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, July 19th, in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin.

Jerry D. Minor
On Friday, July 12th, 2013, our most cherished, Jerry Dale Minor passed away at his home in Cabell Heights. He was 61 years of age.
The youngest of ten children, Jerry was born on June 30th, 1952, at Beckley.
He was the son of the late Charles Baxter and Margaret Helena Lewis Minor. His brothers, Ronnie, David, and John have preceded him in death. The Minor children were raised in the Oak Grove Christian Church.
A lifelong resident of Cabell Heights, Jerry was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1972. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Jerry was stationed in Germany during his stint in service. He had been employed by Lee Norris as a mechanic. In his leisure time, Jerry enjoyed fishing and playing pool.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Nathan, Lauren, Lucas and Amber; two grandchildren; his sisters and brothers, Anna Birchfield and her husband, Samuel of Beckley, Marigold Sauer, Reyta Coonts and Frances Moreland, all of Baltimore, MD; Charles B. Minor and his wife, Reba of Rustburg, VA and James Robert “Jim Bob” Minor of Cabell Heights. Several nieces and nephews survive as well.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 18th, at 11 a.m. at the Oak Grove Christian Church. Kelly Gowen will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 5 to 9 p.m on Wednesday evening at the Melton Mortuary and one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday. Jerry will be laid to rest in the church cemetery. Family and friends will be serving as pallbearers.

Brandon Milton Smith
Brandon Milton Smith born March 30, 1999, passed away in the arms of his mother on July 14, 2013, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, after a life long battle with Cystic Fibrosis.
Brandon loved to hunt, fish, and ride his four wheelers. He loved the outdoors. Even in the last few weeks of his life he told his grandmother Diana that he wanted to go live in the woods. Brandon was a very tough little man, a warrior if you will. He was strong even to the very end.
He was proceeded in death by his grandfathers Clyde Milton Wickline and William “Bill” Miller.
Surviving him are his parents Claudette M. Smith of Crawley, W.Va., and Vincent E. Smith of Clarksburg, W.Va. Sisters Carla M. Dempsey of Crawley, Alisha Smith of Harrisonburg Va., brothers, his twin, Vincent E. Smith Jr. of Crawely, Kendon W. Sutherland of Petersburg W.Va., nieces Payten M. Nesselrodt of Crawley, Genesis Kobetic of Brandywine W.Va. and William Sutherland of Harrisonburg, Va. His grandparents, maternal grandmother Diana Miller of Crawley; paternal grandmother Pat Roy of Upper Tract, and paternal grandfather Everette Smith of Morgantown. Aunts Dorothea M. Wickline of Lewisburg, Kledith M. Weakley of Kansas, Vonda Borrer of Franklin, W.Va. and his uncle William Roy Wickline of Crawley. Helen Rita Bailey Toler
OCEANA — Helen Rita Bailey Toler, 60, of Oceana, went on to a better life on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at her home.
She was born February 16, 1953, at Amigo, W.Va., a daughter of the late Earl and Elouise Cline Bailey.
She was a loving wife and mother and of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, her daughter-in-law Dana Bailey and father-in-law Walter Toler, also preceded her in death.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 33 years Kenneth “Jimmy” Toler; her son Donald Bailey and wife Kelly of Oceana; two granddaughters Alexandria and Brooke Bailey; two sisters Georgia Bailey of Kopperston and Mildred Morgan and husband Jackie of Sunhill; a brother Gene Bailey and wife Sherry of Sunhill; mother-in-law Shirley Toler of Statesville, NC; and a host of other loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, with Rev. Randall Toppin officiating.
