Jane Ellen Fix

NIMITZ — Jane Ellen Fix, 61, of Nimitz, died Friday, November 22, 2013, at her home following a short illness.

Born October 15, 1952, at Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Billy Dan and Wanda Jewell Campbell Lilly.

Jane served as Deputy Assessor for Summers County for 25 years. She was also a former teacher’s aide at Madams Creek School and also was employed by the West Virginia Department of Housing. She was of the Baptist faith. Jane’s love for children was never more evident than in her affection for her grandchildren. She was of the Baptist faith and was a lifelong resident of Summers County.

Survivors include her husband of 30 years, Rodney A. Fix. One son, Samuel J. Pack, II, of Nimitz. One daughter, Sarah Ellen Pack Fox and husband Bobby of Jumping Branch. Five grandchildren, Allison Fox Holland and husband Corey of Pipestem, Tyler Spicer of Jumping Branch, Nathaniel Pack of Jumping Branch, Britney Pack of Jumping Branch and Linley Pack of Jumping Branch. One great-grandson, Colton Holland of Pipestem. Daughter of heart, Meghan Wheeler of Big Creek; a brother, Danny Lilly and wife, Ellen, of Shady Spring; an aunt, Margaret Hank and husband, Bill, of Hinton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening at Pivont Funeral Home in Hinton. A committal service will be held at a later date at Lilly-Crews Cemetery at Nimitz.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia.

Crystal M. Huffman

DUNDALK, Md. — Crystal M. Huffman, 77, of Dundalk, Maryland, formerly of Summers County, died Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore.

Born February 27, 1936, at Talcott, she was the daughter of the late Perry A. and Margaret A. Thompson Wiseman.

Mrs. Huffman was a secretary at Christian Life Church in Dundalk and had been a resident of Maryland for many years.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Howard, Denver and Raymond Wiseman.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald C. Huffman. One son, Michael Huffman of Dundalk, MD, and one daughter, Donna Huffman of Baltimore. Two brothers, Perry Wiseman, Jr., and wife Betty and Roger Wiseman and wife Dorothy, both of Covington, VA. Two sisters, Naomi Payton of Medina, OH, and Wanda Dillon of Cleveland, OH. Two grandchildren Kari Ogunfiditimi and Tori Huffman.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Robert Wiseman officiating. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery on Powleys Creek.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Gladys Virginia Spangler Humphreys

BLACKSBURG, Va. — Gladys Virginia Spangler Humphreys, 94, of Blacksburg, Va., passed away Friday, Nov. 22, 2013. 

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steve Howdock officiating. Burial will follow in the Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg, Va. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, at the funeral home.

Bill Pritchard

Bill Pritchard, age 85, of Beckley, WV, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2013, at the Beckley VA Medical Center.

Born on February 26, 1928, at Sprague, WV, he was the son of the late Jack Gaither Pritchard and Goldie Retha Wills Pritchard.

Mr. Pritchard was a retired manager for Pepsi Cola  Distributing Company at Mabscott, was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during WWII, and was a member of the Bradley Freewill Baptist Church. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Helen Haynes, Betty Duncan, and Wanda Ritch, by a half brother, Tom Watson Pritchard, and a half sister Ada “Sis” Meadows, by brothers-in law, J.D. Johnson, Bob Duncan, and Guy Haynes.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Betty Phillips Pritchard.

His daughter, Barbara Pritchard Dunbar and her husband Jerry of Beckley.

His son, Bill J. Pritchard and his wife Rebecca St. John Pritchard of Beckley.

Brothers, Jack Pritchard Jr. and his wife Wanda of Granite Falls, NC, Curtis Pritchard and his wife Mina, of Lenoir, NC, and Tommy Pritchard and his wife Thelma of Lenoir, NC.

Sisters: Eleanor Hollar and her husband Roger of Lenoir, NC, Daphney Weaver and her husband Paul, of Rhodiss, NC, Patty Parham and her husband Ray, of Granite Falls, NC, Ruth Johnson of Lenoir, NC.

Lora Davis and her husband Hobart of West Jefferson, NC.

Grandchildren, J.W. Dunbar and his wife Cristie of South Point, Ohio, Christy Dunbar Powers and her husband Derick of Myrtle Beach, SC, Bill J. Funeral services will be conducted at the Bradley Freewill Baptist Church on Monday, November 25, 2013, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Wayne Peters and Pastor Daniel Legg officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.

Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. until service time on Monday at the church.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews, Bill J. Pritchard Jr., J.W. Dunbar, Jacob D. Fink, Derick Powers, Randy Phillips, and Donald Phillips.

Justin Reynolds

Justin Reynolds, 30, of Sophia passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013.

Born August 21, 1983, in Beckley, he was the son of Joe and Karla Jeanne Tipper Reynolds.

Justin was a roof bolt operator for Alpha Natural Resources Steel Run #3 mine. He was a certified coal miner, E.M.T. and certified in swift water rescue. He was an experienced whitewater raft guide.

He was preceded in death by a son, Riley Jordan Reynolds, and grandparents, Ann and James Reynolds and C.E. Tipper.

In addition to his parents he is survived by sons, Tristan and Jasper Reynolds of Beckley; sister, Becca Chapman and husband Jason of Beckley; niece, Jaycee Chapman of Beckley; and maternal grandmother, Perl Tipper.

A celebration of Justin’s life will be at 2 p.m. Monday, November 25, 2013, in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel.

Friends may gather with the family from 12 p.m. until time of service on Monday.

Eugene Sheldon Voss

Eugene Sheldon Voss, age 84, of Beaver, WV, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley following a long illness.

Born on March 3, 1929, in Melvindale, Michigan, he was one of eleven children born to the late William Voss and Lillian Gow Voss.

Mr. Voss worked as a dockman for A to Z Leaseway Corporation. In 1989 he moved to West Virginia to enjoy his retirement years.

Throughout his life, he was a faithful fan of the Red Wings, Detroit Tigers, and the Detroit Lions. His hobbies were league bowling, woodworking, and gardening. Mr. Voss was also an avid bingo and card player. Eugene, better known by family and friends as Geno, Pa, Hunk, and Poopsie, had a witty sense of humor and will be greatly missed by all that loved him.

Mr. Voss was also preceded in death by a son Rodney Voss, by brothers Donald, Bill and Robert Voss, by twin sister Jean Shirley Voss, and sisters Donna Brzzan, and Joan Glisson.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Noacha Jean Voss, sons Terry Voss and his wife Donna of Michigan, Mark Voss and his wife Judy of Michigan, and Randy Voss and his wife Shinabu of Maryland. A daughter-in-law, Sue Voss of New Jersey. Stepsons, Rodney Gow and his wife Tina, Richard Gow and his wife Valen, Randy Gow and his wife Karen; one stepdaughter, Robin Smith, all of Michigan.

Nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, sisters, Dorothy Drumm of Arizona, Geraldine Koeppen of Arizona, and Betty Henson of Michigan; a brother, Ronald Voss and wife Em of Michigan.

Memorial services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Monday, November 25, 2013, at 3 p.m. with Rev. Betty Lusk officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the memorial services.
