Louella O. Saunders Amar

Louella O. Saunders Amar, 82, of 221 Glenn Ave., Beckley, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012.

The family will meet at 103 Grant St. in Beckley. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at St. Paul Baptist Church, 129 Rice St., Beckley, with the Rev. Walter Leach officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Garden. Friends may call from noon until time of the services.

Robert ‘Bobby’ Eugene Brooks Sr.

ALVON — Robert “Bobby” Eugene Brooks Sr., 78, of Alvon, passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 25, 2012.

His memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Alvon United Methodist Church in Alvon with the Rev. Lewis Brooks officiating.

Shanklin Funeral Home, White Sulphur Springs, is serving the family.



Clara Cynthia Harrah

Clara Cynthia Harrah, 104, of Beckley went home to be with the Lord on October 29, 2012.

Born August 13th, 1908, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Mae Moses Higginbotham.

Clara enjoyed reading her Bible, and loved her blueberry tea. Clara raised 12 of her brothers and sisters from the age of 15 after her mother died.

She was retired as a nurse’s aide from Pinecrest Hospital after 19 years of service. Clara was a member of Calvary Assembly of God in Beckley.

In addition to her parents, Clara is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Harrah; son Paul Pete Harrah; daughters, Voneda Grose and Ella Mae Higginbotham Underwood; 6 sisters and 7 brothers.

Those left to cherish her memory include her granddaughters, Linda Toney of Valparaiso, IN, Karen Fink and husband Michael of Shady Spring with whom Clara made her home the last year of her life, Vicky Becker and husband Michael of North Carolina, Crystal Talarowski and husband Steve of Delaware, Brenda of New York, Carol Davis and husband Mike of Fayetteville; grandsons, Keith Harrah and wife Lois of Delaware, David Harrah of Delaware, Jeffrey Harrah and wife Elizabeth of Delaware, Joseph Underwood and wife Maxine of Daniels; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to give a special thank you to niece Bonnie Workman, great-grandson, Randi Fink, and wife Ashley Fink for the love and special care they showed her while she was living.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2012, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor John Jordan officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Friends may gather with the family Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

RONCEVERTE — Betty Ann Holley, 78, passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012.

Stefanie Ann Hoover Lewis

Stefanie Ann Hoover Lewis, 45, of Helen, went home to her mansion in Heaven on Saturday, October 27, 2012, following a short illness.

She was a member of Helen Baptist Church.

Born December 19, 1966, in Chicago, Ill., and raised in Rhodell, W.Va., she was a loyal, loving and devoted wife and mother of two sons, whom she was very proud of.

Stefanie was married to Bill Merritt Lewis, and resided in Helen. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother and friend, with a heart of gold. Always full of love and happiness, Stef was loved by everyone especially her family and friends.

Stefanie enjoyed life to the fullest and loved to spend time with her family and friends. She had a special place in her heart for everyone and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She had touched so many lives during her time on Earth that her departure will surely leave an emptiness in our hearts. As we mourn the loss of our wife, mother, family member and friend, we have peace in knowing Stef is now a beautiful angel in Heaven where she suffers no more.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Bill Merritt Lewis; two sons, Bill Lewis of Pineville, W.Va., and Aaron Lewis of Morgantown, W.Va., and a host of friends and family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Stefanie was preceded in death by her parents, Steven and Carolyn Hoover, of Rhodell, and is survived by her brother, Scott Hoover.

A Celebration of Stefanie’s life will be held at Melton Mortuary, 1200 Harper Road, on Thursday, November 1, 2012, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Danny Lusk officiating.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends and family may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, in Prosperity.

Lois Jean Anderson Link

Lois Jean Anderson Link, age 87, of Beaver, WV, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2012. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Born on February 18, 1925, at Beaver, WV, she was the daughter of the late Samuel J. and Reva Redden Anderson.

Mrs. Link was a 1942 graduate of Shady Spring High School. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Crow Baptist Church.

Mrs. Link was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Robert Link, in July of 1985, and by a son, Ronnie Lee Link, in May of 1999. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Jessie, Mason, Basil, Charles, and Luther Anderson, and by sisters Edith Rogers, Chloe Dickerson, Glennis Lilly, Ruth Anderson, and Wilda Richmond. She was also preceded in death by two infant brothers and an infant sister.

Survivors include: Sons, Stephen Link of Beaver, and Connie Link of Daniels, Kerry Link and wife Jeanie of Beaver, David Link of Beaver, and Edwin Link and his wife Sally of Lincolnton, NC. A daughter Lou Link Worrell and her husband Steve of Daniels. A daughter-in-law, Delores Link of Beaver.

Grandchildren, Jason Link of Daniels, Brandon Link and his wife Jennifer of Daniels, Andrew Link of Beaver, Amy Worrell Tyree and her husband Shane of Daniels, Heather Lineberger and her husband Dale of Lincolnton, NC, Jennifer Smith and her husband Brad of Lincolnton, NC.

Great-grandchildren, Chloe Lineberger of Lincolnton, NC, Dillon Smith of Lincolnton, NC, Haley Link of Daniels, and Greyson Link of Daniels.

Also a special lifelong friend Elizabeth Epperly of Beaver.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Thursday, November 1, 2012, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dennis Burks officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV.

Pallbearers will be Jason Link, Brandon Link, Andrew Link, Dale Lineberger, Shane Tyree, and Roger Adkins. Honorary pallbearers will be J.D. Hicks, Ross Lewis, Bruce Miller, Bill Straight, and Donald Lilly.

ALDERSON — Dawn Marie Overstreet, 58, passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2012.

Charles ‘Charlie’ William Plumley

Charles “Charlie” William Plumley, 88, of Shady Spring, passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2012, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following an extended illness.

Born October 1, 1924, in Abraham, WV, to the late Tolley and Susie Plumley.

Charlie enjoyed mechanic work on automobiles. In his earlier years, he was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt. Charlie was a pleasant person to be around and he is going to be sadly missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughters, Katherine Plumley, Joyce Plumley, Louella Nutter, and Sandra Burnes; a son, Charles Daniel Plumley; and a great-granddaughter, Danni Lynn Plumley.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 70 years, Mrs. Alma Plumley; son, William Andrew Plumley and wife Carol of Shady Spring; daughters, Ida Surratt and husband Floyd of Riverside, CA, Elizabeth Adkins and husband Grover of Shady Spring, and Janice Allison Hinton; brother, Marion Plumley of Beckley; grandsons, Dennis Plumley and wife Karen and their two sons Luke and Elijah of Shady Spring, and Leonard Plumley and wife Bonnie and their daughter Lindsey and her husband Matt and their son Landon of Bradley, whom Charlie thought of as his own sons; grandchildren, Linda, Michael, Carl, Alice, and Dan Plumley, Lisa, Anthony, and Eric Scott, Michelle, John, Andrew, Willy, and Joshua Plumley, Allen, Floyd, and Steven, Jennifer and Patrick Adkins, Christopher and Patricia Barnes, and Charles Daniel; also survived by numerous great-grandchildren.

A Service of Celebration will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, November 2, 2012, at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel in Beckley with Pastor Paul Chapman officiating. Interment will follow at Washington-Plumley Cemetery, Plumley Mountain.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Fonda M. Pope

STAUNTON, Va. — Fonda Mae (Lilly) Pope, 64, wife of Randall Miles Pope, of Staunton died Sunday, October 28, 2012, at her residence.

She was born July 22, 1948, in Summers County, WV, a daughter of the late Wyatt and Cordie Emmaline (Hatcher) Lilly.

In addition to her husband, family members include a sister, Doris Phillips; two sons Tommy Lovern and wife, Heather, Kenneth Lovern, Jr., and wife, April; a daughter, Fonda Gray and husband, Scott; seven grandchildren, Frances Corbin, Heather Nicole Lovern, Brendan Gray, Christopher Lovern, Alisha Jackson, Kenneth Jackson, and Michael Skeen; and two great-grandchildren, Sabrina and Matthew Corbin.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles, Aaron, Virgil, Roy and Wayne Lilly; and a sister, Myrtle Pack.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, November 2, 2012, at Henry Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Chuck Boone.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 5, 2012, in Birchfield Cemetery, Flat Top, WV.

Active pallbearers are Roy Phillips, David Phillips, Tommy Lovern, Jason Dean, Ronnie Amos, Kenneth Lovern, Jr., Randall Pope, and Scott Carter.

Honorary pallbearers are Wings of Hope.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2012, at Henry Funeral home.
