Robert J. Arthur

Robert J Arthur, age 79, of Beckley, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at Plateau Medical Center.

He was born on Dec. 13, 1932 in Mingo County.

Robert is survived by three daughters; one son, and five grandchildren.

He is also survived by his step children, Johnna Moye, Valerie Moye, and Jimmy Morgan, a mother in law; ten brothers and sisters in law. A host of nieces and nephews.

Predeceased in death by his wife Vickie, and father in law James Richardson.

A special Thank you to Mary Richardson, Lottie "Suzie" Poore, Carol Richardson and Larry Richardson, George Richardson, Renee Richardson, and Vera Rader.

In keeping with his wishes he has been cremated, and there will be no services.

Thomas ‘Mack’ Goode

PINEVILLE — Thomas "Mack" Goode, 74, of Pineville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, in Bowers Hospice House following a short illness.

Born April 3, 1938, at Pineville, he was the son of the late Bert and Ola Snuffer Goode.

Mack was a disabled coal miner and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, ginseng hunting and being outdoors. He also enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren, his friends, and his cat, Snowball.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Wheeler Goode; two sons, Tommy Goode and his wife, Ronda, and Mark Goode and his wife, Kelly, all of Pineville; a daughter, Brandy A. Goode and a special family friend, Tammy Cooper, of Pineville; five grandchildren, Jeff Goode, Joshua Goode, Jarrod Goode, Kyla Goode and Olivia Goode; and three brothers, Jimmy Goode and his wife, Bonnie, of Dundalk, Md., Harry M. Goode and his wife, Elena, of Glen Burnie, Md., and Charles E. Goode of Talbot, Tenn.

A celebration of Mack’s life will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with the Rev. Jessie Dotson officiating. Burial will follow in Goode Family Cemetery, Pineville.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Family will receive friends from noon until time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mack’s name to Hospice of Southern West Virginia, PO Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802.

Nora Ann Simmons Hatcher

FORT SPRING — Nora Ann Simmons Hatcher, 93, a “Faithful Servant of the Lord” passed away Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at her home, after a long illness.

Born July 22, 1919, in Marie, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Gustavus J. and Martha A. Light Simmons.

Mrs. Hatcher had been a resident of Ft. Spring for 50 years and was previously of Raleigh County, member of Fort Spring Missionary Baptist Church, retired from the Federal Prison in Alderson and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ira “Tom” Hatcher; three sisters, Fern Flower and Jim, Nell Graham and Roy and Ruth Davis and Bill; three brothers, Earl Simmons and Ida, Ralph Simmons and Addie, Joe Simmons and Libby; two nieces and a nephew.

Survivors include two daughters, Martha Ann Colleran and Nora Lee Chestnut both of Ft. Spring; a son, George Simmons of Alderson; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at the Fort Spring Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Jonathan Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Fort Spring.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Friends and family may cll from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at the Longanacre Funeral Home, Ft. Spring.

Bert Ray Kist aka Moose

Bert Ray Kist aka Moose, born in Elkton, Md., on July 12, 1972, he went to be with the Lord on Oct. 26, 2012, and resided in Fairdale, W.Va.

Bert was the son of the late David Preston Kist of Delaware and Patricia Malone of Fairdale. Bert was preceded in death by his daddy Burton Ray Malone, grandmother Rose Kist, grandfather Albert Kist, grandmother Lillian Grubb, grandfather Floyd Yates, Aunt Brenda Simmions, cousins Donald Simmions and an unborn son.

He was survived by his mother Patricia Malone of Fairdale; brother, Floyd Creswell/Melonie of Florida, twin sisters, Lillian Kist-Farris/Dean Farris of Conowingo, Md., Rose Kist-Conn/Ronny Sr. of  Dameron, W.Va., sister, Shirley May Malone of Fairdale; brother Carson Malone/Dorothy Isac of Northeast, Md., sister Tammy Kist of Maryland, brother David Kist of Maryland, Joshua Kist of Delaware, his children, David Preston Kist of Florida, Faith Roberts of Maryland, Hope Barba of West Virginia, Eric Barba of West Virginia and his true love Treasa Lilly.

He will be greatly missed and will always be loved and in our hearts and will never be forgotten.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m.  Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at the Arnett Chapel with the Rev. Larry Kinder officiating.

GREENVILLE — Euna Virginia Lester, 89, of Hans Creek Road, passed away, Saturday, October 27, 2012.

Stefanie Ann Hoover Lewis

Helen Stefanie Ann Hoover Lewis, 45, of Helen, went home to her mansion in Heaven on Saturday, October 27, 2012, following a short illness.

She was a member of Helen Baptist Church.

Born December 19, 1966 in Chicago, Ill., and raised in Rhodell, W.Va., she was a loyal, loving and devoted wife and mother of two sons, who she was very proud of. Stefanie was married to Bill Merritt Lewis, and resided in Helen. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother and friend, with a heart of gold. Always full of love and happiness, Stef was loved by everyone especially her family and friends.

Stefanie enjoyed life to the fullest and loved to spend time with her family and friends.  She had a special place in her heart for everyone and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She had touched so many lives during her time on Earth that her departure will surely leave an emptiness in our hearts. As we mourn the loss of our wife, mother, family member and friend we have peace in knowing Stef is now a beautiful angel in Heaven where she suffers no more.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Bill Merritt Lewis; two sons, Bill Lewis of Pineville, W.Va., and Aaron Lewis of Morgantown, W.Va., and a host of friends and family, among them her father and mother-in-law, John L. and Sue Lewis. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Stefanie was preceded in death by her parents, Steven and Carolyn Hoover, of Rhodell, and is survived by her brother, Scott Hoover.

A Celebration of Stefanie’s life will be held at Melton Mortuary, 1200 Harper Road, on Thursday, November 1, 2012, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Danny Lusk officiating.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Frances Sears, 97, of Beckley, died Monday, October 29, 2012.

Eloise Madlyn Jones Sweeney

Eloise Madlyn Jones Sweeney, 91, entered eternal peace on October 26, 2012, at Genesis Nursing Home, in White Sulphur Springs.

Born February 27, 1921 in Talcott, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Lenora Evans and Mack Jones of Talcott, W.Va. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband Lester H. Sweeney Sr. and one brother, Arthur Jones.

Eloise was an employee at the Greenbrier Hotel for 46 years where she worked as a room service operator while residing in White Sulphur Springs. She was a loving mother and grandmother of many. She loved to crochet and bake cakes, she was well known for her lemon supreme pound cakes. Eloise was a member of First Baptist Church of White Sulphur Springs, having served on the usher board, and other auxiliaries.

Survived by one daughter, Marilyn Leftwich (Arthur) of White Sulphur Springs; two sons, Lester ‘Buddy’ Sweeney (Charlotte) of White Sulphur Springs, and Thomas ‘Tommy’  Sweeney (Angela) of Columbus, Ohio; loving daughter in law, Margaret Sweeney of White Sulphur Springs.

Seven granddaughters, Janya Luster Lee (Tim), Lisa Leftwich Newman (Anthony), Janya ‘Rene’ Seams (Keith), Sheila Dickson, Tara Sweeney, Marilyn ‘Vet’ Erskins (Gary), and Sandra Jones; seven grandsons, James ‘Nicky’ Luster Jr. (Evelyn), Thomas Sweeney Jr. (Candace), Adam Sweeney, Ryan Sweeney, Tim Calhoun, Charles ‘CC’ Coles, and Twain Wesley; 12 great granddaughters and seven great grandsons; three great great granddaughters and three great great grandsons.

Viewing will take place at 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2012, at First Baptist Church of White Sulphur Springs. Homegoing services will follow at 1 p.m. with Reverend Greg E. Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Talcott Cemetery.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Rileigh Elizabeth Turner, affectionately known as our sweet “Baby T” went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, October 27, 2012.

Born October 26, 2012 she was the daughter of Jeremy David and Ashleigh Brooke Bragg Turner. She was preceded in death by great grandparents Jim Turner and Paul Lovelace.

In addition to her parents she is survived by maternal grandparents, Allen and Suzanne Bragg of Beckley; paternal grandparents, David and Angie Turner of Beckley; great grandparents, Dave and Ruby Riley, Carolyn and Carl Auricchio, Mildred Turner, all of Beckley and Gary and Alyce Harmon of Charleston, W.Va.; uncles, Austin Bragg and Jonathan Turner as well as numerous other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be 7p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2012, at the Sprague Freewill Baptist Church, with Pastor Fred Lovell and Pastor Jonathan Turner officiating. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
