Derrick Dewayne Blackburn

OCEANA — Derrick Dewayne Blackburn, 25, of Oceana, passed away Friday, Oct. 26, 2012.

Funeral services will be at noon Tuesday, Oct. 30, in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco. He will be laid to rest in Cook Cemetery, Lynco. Friends may gather with the family from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at the funeral home.

George R. Brooks

RAINELLE — George R. Brooks, 77, of Rainelle, West Virginia, passed away early Saturday morning, October 27, 2012, at his home, following a short illness.

Born June 9, 1935, at Rainelle, WV, he was the son of the late William Jennings and Margie Lee Dean Brooks.

George served 53 years in the Rainelle Volunteer Fire Department, having served 20 years as their Fire Chief. He also served as a Councilman for the Town of Rainelle. He had worked as a produce manager for A & P grocery stores, also for Westmoreland Coal Company and the Town of Rainelle. In his younger years, he had coached Little League Football and Baseball. Mr. Brooks was one of the leaders of the Greenbrier County Fire Association and a former member of Rainelle Rotary Club. He was an avid lifetime fan of WVU sports, particularly football, and enjoyed spending his spare time at his camp on the Greenbrier River.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia I. Wood Brooks, in 2001, and infant sister, Anna Lee Brooks, and two brothers, John “Bub” Brooks and Bill Brooks.

Those left to cherish his memory are 2 sons: George Ray Brooks, II, and wife Mary of Rainelle, WV, and Steven Brooks and wife Sue of Moscow, PA; his fiancee: Betty Crawford of Blacksburg, Virginia; 2 sisters: Cora Spencer of Alpharetta, Georgia, and Barbara Jones of Hebron, Ohio; 5 grandchildren: Pamela Hanna (Jeff) of Clintonville, WV, Joe Brooks of Alderson, WV, Jeremy Brooks and fiancee Kristina of Pittston, PA, Tanner and Olivia Brooks of Moscow, PA; 2 great-grandchildren: Zachary Hamrick and Serenity Brooks.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Rainelle, with Pastor Bob Scharnhorst officiating. Entombment will follow at Wallace Memorial Mausoleum, Clintonville. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening, October 29, 2012, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations of sympathy be made to: First Baptist Church, 309 Seventh St., Rainelle, WV 25962.

Jennie Jordan Grayson

MOCKSVILLE, NC. — Mrs. Jennie Jordan Grayson, 54, of Mocksville, N.C., passed away Friday, October 26, 2012, at Duke Medical Center after a courageous seven-year battle with cancer.

She was born June 25, 1958, in Beckley, West Virginia, to Kenneth Keith and Joyce Link Jordan. She was raised in Crow, W.Va. She graduated from Shady Spring High School and received her nursing degree from W.Va. Tech. She owned, with her husband and daughter, C.J.R Products, Inc., in Clemmons, N.C., builders of power steering components for NASCAR. Jennie was a strong Christian woman who left a lasting impression on every person she met.

Surviving are her husband, Ronnie Grayson; a daughter, Christin Grayson Reece and husband, Kristopher; a granddaughter, Charlotte “Cha-Cha” Reece; her parents of Beckley, West Virginia; a brother, Keith Jordan; a sister-in-law, Cindy Jordan; and many other family members.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cooleemee First Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Register officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel. Hazel B. Jude

SABINE — Hazel B. Jude, 92, of Sabine, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 27, 2012.

She was born February 14, 1920, in Pilgram, KY, a daughter of the late Sherman and Minnie Evans.

She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew Jude, a stillborn baby boy and a son Arthur Jude, two sisters Dollie Muncy and Alma Preece, and two brothers Russell and Webb Evans.

Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters Ruby Jude of Sabine and Doris Hurd and her husband Dewayne of Ravencliff, WV; a son Carl Jude and his wife Melinda of Sabine; five grandchildren Eric Hurd, Dan Hurd, Kelly Williams, Joseph Jude, and Jessica Crouse; twelve great-grandchildren Leigha Hurd, Ryan Hurd, Hailey Hurd, Logan Hurd, Kendall Hurd, Dylan Brooks, Rayven Williams, Zackery Crouse, Alexis Crouse, Rebecca Jude, Courtney Jude and Makayla Jude; a great-great-grandchild Morgan Greer; two sisters Oma Brown of Lexington, KY, and Goldie Kirk of Inez, KY; a brother Carl Evans of Louisa, KY; and a host of other loving family and friends. She loved her family very much and always wanted them to be with her. Our loss is heaven’s gain, but she will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, October 29, 2012, in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, with The Rev. Ernest Francis officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Muncy Cemetery, Wolf Creek, KY.

Friends and family may call from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Lois Jean Anderson Link

Lois Jean Anderson Link, age 87, of Beaver, WV, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2012. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Born on February 18, 1925, at Beaver, WV, she was the daughter of the late Samuel J. and Reva Redden Anderson.

Mrs. Link was a 1942 graduate of Shady Spring High School. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Crow Baptist Church.

Mrs. Link was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Robert Link, in July of 1985, and by a son, Ronnie Lee Link, in May of 1999. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Jessie, Mason, Basil, Charles, and Luther Anderson, and by sisters Edith Rogers, Chloe Dickerson, Glennis Lilly, Ruth Anderson, and Wilda Richmond. She was also preceded in death by two infant brothers and an infant sister.

Survivors include: Sons, Stephen Link of Beaver, and Connie Link of Daniels, Kerry Link and wife Jeanie of Beaver, David Link of Beaver, and Edwin Link and his wife Sally of Lincolnton, NC. A daughter Lou Link Worrell and her husband Steve of Daniels. A daughter-in-law, Delores Link of Beaver.

Grandchildren, Jason Link of Daniels, Brandon Link and his wife Jennifer of Daniels, Andrew Link of Beaver, Amy Worrell Tyree and her husband Shane of Daniels, Heather Lineberger and her husband Dale of Lincolnton, NC, Jennifer Smith and her husband Brad of Lincolnton, NC.

Great-grandchildren, Chloe Lineberger of Lincolnton, NC, Dillon Smith of Lincolnton, NC, Haley Link of Daniels, and Greyson Link of Daniels.

Also a special lifelong friend Elizabeth Epperly of Beaver.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dennis Burks officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, October 29, 2012.

Pallbearers will be Jason Link, Brandon Link, Andrew Link, Dale Lineberger, Shane Tyree, and Roger Adkins. Honorary pallbearers will be J.D. Hicks, Ross Lewis, Bruce Miller, Bill Straight, and Donald Lilly.
