William Russell ‘Bill’ Baker

CANTON, Ohio — William Russell “Bill” Baker, 73, of Canton, formerly of Summersville, died  Monday, Oct. 8, 2012.

A private viewing for the family was Thursday, Oct. 11, and a service for family and friends was Friday, Oct. 12. The body was cremated.

Reed Funeral Home of Canton was in charge of the arrangements.

James Dillard ‘JD’ Banther Jr.

LYNCO — James Dillard “JD” Banther Jr., 74, of Lynco, passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2012.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, with the Rev. Ron Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17,, at the funeral home.

Carl ‘Mel’ Cernuto

Carl “Mel” Cernuto, age 73, of Crab Orchard, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 13, 2012, at his home following an extended illness.

Born January 23, 1939, in Stanaford, WV, to the late Nuziato and Louise Greco Cernuto.

Mr. Cernuto was a native and lifelong resident of Raleigh County and attended the Church Of God Family Worship Center in Beckley. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School Class of 1957. He entered the work force in the glass business his senior year of high school with Raleigh Glass Company for 4 years, a former employee of West Virginia Glass for 46 years before he was forced to retire due to illness in 2001. He spent most of his time before retirement enjoying favorite hobbies of gardening, hunting, and sports. After retirement his time was filled with joy from his children and grandchildren. Mel never met a stranger. He was known for his loving, warm smile and outgoing personality. He was loved by all who knew him and is going to be sadly missed.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Nellie Cernuto Hutchens and Pauline Cernuto Bonham; and a brother, Bob Cernuto and his wife Joyce.

Those left to cherish his wonderful memory include his loving wife, together for 35 years, Mrs. Pansy Bernice Cernuto, at home; sons, Mike Cernuto and wife Chris of Crab Orchard, and Dwayne Cernuto and wife Lisha of Crab Orchard, and Joe Cernuto of Crab Orchard; daughters, Lisa Daniel and husband Talmedge of Fitzpatrick Road, and Gina Cernuto and companion Mike of Crab Orchard; stepson, Daniel Maples of Beckley; brother, Charles Cernuto and wife Lula Mae of Fitzpatrick Road; brother-in-law, Charles Ballengee of Albemarle, NC; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Danny Hutchens and his wife Freda of Lewisburg; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his beloved cat, Jesse, whom he loved.

Mel’s Going Home Celebration will be conducted at 12 p.m. Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel in Beckley with Rev. Walter Leach officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Last Supper Garden, in Prosperity.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday.
