VERDUNVILLE — Charles Christopher “Chris” Albright, 42, of Verdunville passed away Friday, Nov. 8, 2013.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at Honaker Funeral Home of Logan, with Bishop Michael Hartwell officiating. Friends may call on the family from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In keeping with his wishes, Chris is to be cremated.

Kenneth Columbus Ayers
SANDSTONE — Kenneth Columbus Ayers, 83, of Sandstone died Friday, November 8, 2013, at the VA Medical Center in Beckley, WV.
Born June 20, 1930, at Ramp, he was the son of the late Charles N. and Sallie Ayers.
He retired from Hurley Medical Center in Flint, MI, and was a Korean War Veteran having served in the United States Army, former Chief of Police for the City of Hinton, member of the Hinton Masonic Lodge AM&FM and the Ramp Holiness Church.
Preceded in death by one sister and six brothers.
Survived by a son, Kenneth C. Ayers II of Cedar City, UT; one sister, Daisy Walkup of Swartz Creek, MI; two brothers, John Ayers of Grand Ledge, MI, and Lloyd Gene Ayers of Beckley.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, November 11, 2013, at the Ramp Holiness Church with the Rev. Felix Baker officiating. Burial will in Ayers Cemetery on the Ayers Farm, Ramp Road. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the Church on Monday.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

ROGERSVILLE, Tenn. — Elbert Dean Buzzard, 80, of Rogersville, Tenn., passed away Nov. 7, 2013.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, in the Sylvester Missionary Baptist Church, Sylvester, with the Rev. Reed Mitchell officiating. Interment is in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas. Visitation will begin at 12:30 Monday at the church.

Rev. Griffin Clay Callahan
BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — The Rev. Griffin Clay Callahan, 93, of College Ave., Bluefield, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Westwood Center in Bluefield, Va.
Born in Bluefield, W.Va., on Oct. 31, 1919, he was the son of the late Griffin Elwood Callahan and Marion Claytor Callahan.
Mr. Callahan spent his childhood years in Bluefield, graduating from Bluefield Junior College in 1938. He was graduated from the College of William and Mary and Virginia Theological Seminary and in 1944 was ordained to the priesthood in the Episcopal Church. He began his ministry in Greenbrier and Monroe counties where he was the rector of six parishes during the mid-1940s. He served many congregations in West Virginia during his years as an active priest and was also assistant rector at Calvary church in Pittsburgh, Pa. He returned to West Virginia in 1960 as rector of Trinity church in Parkersburg where he served until his retirement in 1974. During his years in the ministry, Mr. Callahan worked on the staff of many youth camps and served on the board of the YMCA. In the mid-1940s he was involved in the establishment and building of Peterkin Conference Center in Romney, W.Va., the youth camp and retreat center for the Episcopal Diocese of WV. In the 1950s he reached out to many people through live television broadcasts of his shows, “The Parson’s Mailbox” on station WSAZ in Huntington and “The Parson’s Study” on station WIIC in Pittsburgh. He served as supervisor of the Little Kanawha Soil and Water Conservation District while in Parkersburg and served as the chaplain to the Civil Air Patrol in Beckley in the late 1980s. After his retirement, Mr. Callahan worked for the ZEP Manufacturing Co. for several years and also served as a supply priest for congregations in southern WV and southwest VA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marion Callahan Waldo Hanzlik, and by the mother of his children, Elizabeth (Betty) Boykin Callahan.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Mary Elizabeth (Libby) Burton Callahan. He is also survived by his children, Louise Chambers of Washington, DC; Lissa Lundberg and her husband McKee of Phoenix, Ariz.; Griffin Callahan and his wife Lynne of Itmann; Marion Dunmore and her husband Miles of London, England; Bruce Callahan of Richmond, Va.; a stepson, Stuart Burton and his wife Brenda of Grove City, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Barbara Grigg and her husband Rick of Fairmont; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Griffin Callahan was a one-of-a-kind servant of his Lord and a loyal son of West Virginia. He lived his life in constant motion, touching the lives and hearts of a multitude of people. May he know God’s eternal peace beyond all hope and understanding.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at Christ Episcopal Church in Bluefield, W.Va., with Bishop Mike Klusmeyer officiating.
Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service and at a reception at the church after the service.

BOZOO — Evelyn Jane Cline, 68, of Bozoo, WV, passed away Friday, November 8, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family.
Born July 5, 1945, at Simon, Wyoming County, WV, she was the daughter of the late Ruble W. and Etta Marie Justice Walls.
Evelyn was a homemaker and a member of the Bozoo Christian Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three infant siblings, two brothers, Gregory and Ronald Walls, and one great-grandchild, Ava Rose.
Survivors include her loving husband of 52 1/2 years, Cecil Chester Cline, one son, Ranny Eugene Cline and wife Carol of Bozoo, WV, one daughter Kimberlyn Cline Fischer and husband Gary of Troutville, VA, great-granddaughter Raini Mutter of the home, sixteen grandchildren, Kandice, Heather, Michael, Matthew, Logan, Jonathan, Lucas, Brandilyn, Nicholas, Mary-Elizabeth, Madison, Christopher, Jason, Jon, Nathaniel and Elijah, twelve great-grandchildren, and two ladies she thought of as her daughters, Sharyn Ogden of Blacksburg, VA, and Becky Atwell of Peterstown, WV.

Elmer ‘Bruce’ Haga
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of beloved husband, father, brother and friend Elmer ‘Bruce’ Haga of Beckley, WV. Mr. Haga passed away Friday, November 8, 2013, at Bowers Hospice House following a long, courageous battle with cirrhosis of the liver.
He was born January 11, 1947, at Konnarock, VA, to the late Archie and Effie Haga.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving proudly in the Vietnam War. He was also a retired coal miner of 32 years. He enjoyed working in his garden, cooking, watching westerns and war movies. The loves of his life were his ‘Yorkies’ Posha and Jake.
Those left to cherish his memories are his loving wife Peggy Haga of Beckley, stepson Darren Cook and his wife Mulan and stepgranddaughter Ruiwen of Christianburg, VA. NEW RICHMOND — Anna J. Holley, 84, passed away Friday, November 8, 2013, at Wyoming Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Richmond.
Born June 3, 1929, in Pineville, WV, she was the daughter of the late John L. Stewart and Lettie McMillion.
Anna was a member of Rockcastle Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer E. Eller, her second husband, Bobby Holley, and a daughter, Rita Sue Eller.
Those left to cherish Anna’s memory are two children, Kenneth Eller and Tina Eller, both of Pineville; three sisters, Rosa Belle Reed of Pineville, Freda Brewer of Pineville and Betty Nutter of South Charleston; two grandchildren, Tonya Vickers and Kenny Eller; two great-grandchildren, Kyle Ryan Hurley and Ty Shannon Eller; and two sisters-in-law, Athelene Stewart of Beckley and Marion Stewart of Huntington.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday, November 11, 2013, at Stewart Cemetery, Key Rock. The Rev. Keith Reed will officiate. There will be no visitation.

Charles R. ‘Chuck’ Norris
Charles R. “Chuck” Norris, 70, went to be with the Lord on Nov. 8, 2013.
He was born in Stotesbury, W.Va. He was preceded in death by his parents, George F. and Ruby L. Norris, and sister Ella Helvey.
He is survived by his wife Joan B. Norris, one son, two daughters, two stepsons, numerous grandchildren, three brothers, and two sisters.
Chuck was an Army veteran and a true family man.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Regina Sue North
ORIENT HILL/LESLIE — Regina Sue North, 41, of Orient Hill/Leslie area, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday morning, October 20, 2013, after a courageous battle with stage four cancer.
Born June 13, 1972, at Lewisburg, she was the daughter of the late Ballard Counts and Evelyn North.
She leaves behind her best friend and fiancé Howard Richmond, who stood by her side through her long illness. They shared many happy moments together, especially will their special dog “Smokey.”
Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her oldest brother, Charles R. North.
She is survived by her sisters, Donna Charles and husband Russell of Unionville, Virginia, and Denna North of Rainelle.
Other survivors include three brothers, Richard L. North and wife Tammy of Yelm, WA; Steve W. North and wife Georgie of Ruckersville, VA; and James M. North of Ruckersville, Virginia.
Regina was loved by her family and friends. She had two special friends, Amy Beavers and Carrie Blair. She had a host of nieces and nephews, that she dearly loved and they loved her, too. To know her was to love her, and she will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank all those who helped during Regina’s illness, from the prayers, the food, the financial gifts, taking her to her treatments, and staying with her when needed.
They would also like to thank the Louis Gayle Allegheny Hospital in Low Moor, Virginia, and the Carillon Roanoke Memorial Hospital of Roanoke, Virginia.

Edith Jean Ragland
Edith Jean Ragland, 95, of Beckley, went to be with the Lord, Friday, November 8, 2013.
She was born July 5, 1918, to the late William Thomas and Nancy Leona Saunders.
Mrs. Ragland was a founding member of the Pilgrim Holiness Church on C&O Dam Road and a current member of the First Church of The Nazarene in Beckley.
She was a homemaker and raised 8 children. Her proudest accomplishment was to inspire all of her children to graduate from high school. She was a “tacker” during WWII in a shipyard in Baltimore, MD, also referred to as “Rosie The Riveter.” Edith cared for others’ children as she did her own and gave the gift of love to all those she encountered.
Mrs. Ragland loved The Lord and kept the faith until the end. Her family and all who were touched by her love and laughter will miss her very much.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her spouse, Howard Bruce Ragland; her children, Margaret Ann Lilly, Wendy Jean Horton, and Nancy Caroline Sarratt; and 9 brothers and sisters.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Linda Gale Farley and husband Douglas of Coal City, Howard David “Butch” Ragland of Cool Ridge, Michael Ray Ragland of Blue Jay, Steven Joseph Ragland and wife Dana of Greenville, SC, and Kathy Yvonne Mayhew and husband Bryan of Huntersville, NC; a brother, Calvin Saunders of Myrtle Beach, SC; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

SINKS GROVE — Wanda Burdette Robinson, 94, of Sinks Grove, formerly of Fayetteville, died Friday, November 9, 2013, after a short illness.
Born August 12, 1919, at Handley, WV, she was the daughter of the late William W. and Anis Walker Burdette.
Wanda was a member of the Harvey Chapel Methodist Church near Fayetteville.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband Joseph C. Robinson in 1979. A brother Bill and a sister Thelma.
Wanda is survived by daughters Betty Craft of Montgomery, Patricia (Jim) VanDyke of Sinks Grove, Virginia (Clinton) Treadway of Dublin, Va. A son Joseph (Cindy) Robinson of Winder, Ga. A brother Clifford of Fla. 9 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial will be held Monday, November 11, 2013, at 11 a.m. in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Beckley with Pastor James Hylton officiating.

Frances ‘Frankie’ Suttle
OAK HILL — Frances “Frankie” Leona Suttle, 52, of Oak Hill, passed away Friday, November 8, 2013, at her home.
Born on May 5, 1961, at Fayetteville, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Agnes Perdue Goodson.
Mrs. Suttle was an active member of New Beginnings Church of God where she was the teen Sunday school teacher. She was the lead teacher at A Place to Grow Day Care.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Billy Goodson; and sister, Greathe Thompson.
Left to cherish her memory include her devoted husband, Dennis Suttle; daughter, Alexis Suttle of Oak Hill; two sisters, Carol Williams and Linda Bennett; two brothers, Raymond Goodson and Herbert Goodson; and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at the Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with Rev. John R. Pack officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.
