Nathan (Nat) B. Gwinn
RICHMOND, Va. — Nathan (Nat) B. Gwinn, of Richmond, VA, formerly of Lockbridge, WV, passed away on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, in McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond, VA, of a short illness. Born on Sept. 9th, 1933, he was the son of the late Cornelius B. and Golda Gwinn. He served four years in the Air Force and retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections.
Surviving are 2 sons: Nathan B. Gwinn Jr. (Karen), Chesterfield VA; Randall D. Gwinn, Ashland, VA. 2 daughters: Deanna Austin (Stephen), Virginia Beach, VA; Theresa Melton (Thomas), Ashland, VA. 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. 3 surviving brothers: Wesley Gwinn (Ruth, deceased), Lewisburg, WV; Dr. James Gwinn (Susan), Lockbridge, WV; Larry Gwinn (Phyllis), Nimitz, WV.
Preceded in death by 2 brothers: Cornelius B. Gwinn Jr. and Paul Gwinn; and 4 sisters, Mabel Carter, Faith Cozort, Joy Shulle, and Glo McFarland.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, WV, with Pastor Larry Gwinn officiating. Burial will follow in the DeQuasie Cemetery, Lockbridge WV. Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 21, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, WV.
Betty Sudderth Jamison
Betty Sudderth Jamison passed away on Friday, October 18, 2013, at the Bowers Hospice House. She was the daughter of the late Jack and Lenore Sudderth of MacArthur.
She is survived by Dr. Melvin Jamison, to whom she was married for 53 years. Their children are Sheree Wolfe and husband, Les, of Nokesville, VA, Melvin Jamison and wife, Amy, of Coal City, and David Jamison and wife, Theresa, of Kingsport, TN.
Their grandchildren are Lauren Wolfe, Austin Jamison, Katelyn Jamison, and Brenna Jamison.
Betty is also survived by her sisters, Faye and Cindy, and brothers, Jack and Walter, and numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Betty taught school for nearly 38 years and was well loved by her students and fellow teachers and staff members. She was affectionately known as Ms. J.
Betty was an excellent example of a Pastor’s wife and worked in several churches as Sunday school teacher, Bible School worker, and was involved in visiting shut-ins. She was a member of the Sunset Hills Missionary Baptist Church in Coal City and loved her many church friends and pastor, Tim Mitchem.
Services for Mrs. Jamison will be held at Blue Ridge Funeral Home in Prosperity with Pastor Tim Mitchem officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday evening, October 21, and her funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 22, at 1 p.m. Following the services Mrs. Jamison will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.
The family would like to give a loving thanks to the Ladies of the Church for coming and staying with Betty during her illness and for the food they prepared for the family.
The family would like to also suggest an alternative to flowers, a donation in the Memory of Betty be made to the Hospice of Southern West Virginia or the Bowers Hospice House. These two organizations were absolutely outstanding in their assistance to Betty and her family during her battle with Leukemia.
