Ethylene Hardy Bingham
On Friday, Oct. 18th, 2013, our most cherished mother and grandmother, Ethylene Hardy Bingham of the Woodcrest Addition, Beckley, formerly of Filbert, passed away at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley. She was in the 95th year of her life.
Mary Ethylene Wooldridge was born on Nov. 30th, 1918, at Filbert. Ethylene, as she was affectionately known all her life, was the eighth of twelve children. Her parents were the late George and Peggy McClure Wooldridge. Her brothers Fremont, Lloyd, Lawrence, and Herbert Wooldridge and sisters, Geneva Myers, Cleo Wooldridge, Annie Bales, Frances Cape, Edna George and Dorothy Cook, have preceded her in death. A brother, Harold Wooldridge of Sun City, AZ, survives as well as several nieces and nephews.
A lifelong resident of Filbert, Ethylene married Woodrow Hardy in 1936. To this union were born her two beloved daughters, Mary Jane and Shelby. Mary Jane is married to Steve Colosi; they make their home in Beckley. Shelby would marry Jerry Blevins. Sadly, Jerry and Shelby died at an early age. Woodrow Hardy died in 1963, at the age of 49. Ethylene would then marry William Bingham. “Grandma Ethylene” was blessed with five grandchildren, Verna Love, Jeanette Smith, Steve Colosi Jr., Sherri Kirkman and Maria Cochran. She was the proud great-grandmother of twelve great-grandchildren. Ethylene worshiped at the Filbert United Methodist Church. She loved to quilt and garden and was an avid walker. For many years, she walked four to five miles a day with her Filbert friends. William Bingham would die in 1972.
In 2004, at the age of 86, Ethylene came to Beckley to make her home with Mary Jane and Steve. She immensely enjoyed spending time at the Raleigh County Commission on Aging Day Care. She was blessed with her kind care givers, Terri Tilley, Judy Bolen, Juanita Dunbar, Marlene Sizemore, and Debbie Smith.
On Monday, Oct. 21st, at 11 a.m. there will be a “Service of Remembrance” for Ethylene at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Tom Carver will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service hour. Ethylene will be laid to rest in the Woodlawn Memorial Park at Bluewell. The Committal services will be at 1:30 p.m.
