William L. Nunley
FAYETTEVILLE — William Leonard Nunley, 80, formerly of Smithers, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley.
Born on November 6, 1932, at Smithers, he was the son of the late Leonard Fredrick Nunley and Alberta Artie Perdue Nunley.
Mr. Nunley attended the Emmanuel Baptist Church at Fayette Heights. He grew up in Smithers and graduated from Montgomery High School where he enjoyed playing sports (baseball and football), and he was a member of the band.
After high school he worked at Union Carbide at Alloy, manager at National Finance in Montgomery, service manager for Montgomery Motors, and served as secretary of Oak Hill Jaycees.
His favorite job was that of his family. He enjoyed spending time with them at home and the family cabin. He was an artist, musician, builder, electrician, plumber, and above all a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, and uncle.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, June Rose Morrow Nunley; son, William Frederick Nunley; and sister, Ora Mae Nunley McCune.
Left to cherish his memory include his four children: Cassandra May Bandy of Fayetteville, Jennifer Jayne (Donald) Atha of Fayetteville; John Wayne (Yvonne) Nunley of Greensboro, NC, and Gregory Scott (April) Nunley of Greensboro, NC; 14 grandchildren: William Frederick (Amanda) Nunley II, Jeremy Wayne (Cynthia) Bandy and Shawn Adam (Deana) Bandy, Zachary Levi Atha, Jared Nathaniel Atha, Gabriel Thomas Atha, Samuel Caleb Atha, Matthew Quinton Atha, Jonathan Tyler Atha, Joshua Micah Nunley and Amber Nicole Nunley; Jade Lee McCracken, Lauren Elizabeth Nunley and Hunter Wayne Nunley; ten great-grandchildren: Shawn Caleb Bandy, Isabella Grace Bandy and Olivia Faith Bandy, Brooklynn Elaine Nunley, William Frederick Nunley III, Aiden McCracken, Ember McCracken, Kaylin Hudnall, Yvonne Hudnall, and Joselyn Wayne; one brother, Jack Lee (Nancy) Nunley of Cartersville, GA; and a great number of loving nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 2013, at the Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with Pastor Justin Seay officiating. Burial will follow at Montgomery Memorial Park, London, WV.
The family will receive friends 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home before the funeral on Sunday.
