Louise Grace Baker

 On Friday, August 23rd, 2103, Louise Baker of Mankin Avenue, Beckley passed away at the Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital. She was in her 93rd year.

Louise Grace Baker was born on February 5th, 1920, at Union in Monroe County. She was one of seven children born to the late Samuel Clark and Roberta Grace Campbell Peters. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Anderson Baker; two sisters and one brother, Frances Marshall, Harriet Stone and Samuel Peters.  

Louise spent her child in Union, and graduated from Union High School in 1938. She married John Anderson Baker, also from Monroe County, and was a homemaker, raising two sons. Early on the family lived in Mullens, but later moved to Beckley residing on Riley Street and later on Mankin Avenue.  

She is survived by sons, Ronald Baker of Beckley and Michael Baker of Grand Junction, Colo.; grandsons, Ethan and Aaron, also of Grand Junction; as well as three brothers, Charles Peters (Daphney) of Bluefield, Oswald Peters and Robert Peters (Nancy) all of Florida; and a sister-in-law, June Peters of Ronceverte.

Louise was a member of the United Methodist Temple, where she was involved and held office in Circle No. 2 of the United Methodist Women for many years.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, August 29th, at 1 p.m. at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. The family will receive friends from noon until the service hour. Pastors, Sam Stone and Tom Bradley will be officiating.

Druzilla Hughes Belcher

OCEANA — Druzilla Hughes Belcher, 92, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her family.

A lifelong resident of Wyoming County, she was born April 10, 1921, to the late George and Pearl Cline Hughes.

Mrs. Belcher was a member of the Ark of Safety Church of Glen Fork. She enjoyed gardening, watching and feeding birds and cooking.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Belcher and siblings, Bob Hughes, Easter Adkins, Hazel Belcher, twin infant sisters and son-in-laws, Harold Toler, James Acord, Roy Lovins, and Mark Simpson.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Alice Toler, of Roanoke, Va., Helen Acord, of Oceana, Betty Lovins of Clear Fork, Tom Belcher and wife, Linda of Bristol, Tenn., Dallas Belcher and wife, Kathy of Clear Fork, David Belcher and wife, Karen of Lynco and Cindy Simpson of Saulsville. She also leaves behind siblings, Jim Hughes of Sun Hill, Ed Hughes of Bozoo and Celie Toler of Clear Fork; 21 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren and three very special friends, Murl Darnell, Carol Stewart and Teddy Toler.

A celebration of Mrs. Belcher’s life will be 11 a.m., Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Evans Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Perry Blankenship and Bro. D.J. Belcher officiating. Interment will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny. Friends may gather with the family 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, August 28, at the funeral home.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

SUMMERSVILLE — Martha June Bennett, 61, of Summersville, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2013.

Rita Marie Botman, 86, of Crab Orchard died Monday, August 26th, 2013, at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.

Funeral services will be Thursday, August 29th, at 3:30 p.m. at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until the service hour. Rita will be entombed in the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Margaret Virginia Pack Callaway

OAK HILL — Margaret Virginia Pack Callaway, 72, of Oak Hill, died on Sunday, August 25, 2013, at CAMC-General Division in Charleston, W.Va. from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Born May 21, 1941, at Streeter, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James Wilson and Flora Day Meador Pack.

She was a retired cook for Hilltop Nursing and Rehab Center.

Mrs. Callaway was a member of the Oak Hill Alliance Church.

Her husband, Harry Mayo Callaway; a grandson, Bradley Kinston; sister, Dorothy Buckland and two brothers, Harold Lee Pack and Jennings Pack preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Randy Eugene Wills and wife, Tonya of Fayetteville and Frank Dale Wills and wife, Beth Lynn of Colorado; sisters, Betty Keith and husband, Don of Fayetteville and Lucindy Farley and husband, Clownie of Pax; brother, Sidney Pack of Mount Hope; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be on Friday, August 30, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Albert “Skip"Bowman and Rev. Clarence Grigsby officiating. Entombment will be at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Oak Hill.

Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Thursday, August 29, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Family member and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Mildred Carte Hicks, 82, of Crab Orchard died Monday, August 26th, 2013.

Funeral services will be Friday, Aug. 30th, at 1 p.m. in the Bethel Freewill Baptist Church at MacArthur. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. Julius ‘Skip’ Marcum

Julius “Skip” Marcum, 68, of Beckley, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, August 25, 2013.

Born December 14, 1944, in Piney View, W.Va., he was the son of the late Julius and Goldie Hanks Marcum.

He was preceded in death by a son, Joe Marcum; brother, Ritchie Marcum; and a son-in-law, Jack Adkins.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Wanda Adkins Marcum; daughter Lisa Adkins; three grandchildren, Justin Adkins and wife Lauren, Julie Farley and husband Chase, and Amy Jo Marcum; two brothers, Homer “Porky” Marcum and wife Donna, Wayne Marcum and wife Sharon; sister Pat Snuffer; and several nieces and nephews.

Over the years he enjoyed supporting his grandson Justin at the race track. He had a passion of restoring old cars and spending time with friends in the Famous Forty’s Car Club and with other car clubs. He loved flying in the clouds with Jack Clemens. He was a hard worker and was employed by Tim Yates Lincoln Mercury, Burleson Motor Co., Westmoreland Coal Co., Raleigh County Collision, and he retired as the body shop manager at Lewis Chevrolet Co. Skip will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Justin Adkins, Homer “Porky” Marcum, Chase Farley, Bob Byers, Tom Lilly, and Jack Clemens.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 29, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home, with the Pastor Doug Holley officiating.  Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Peggy Jean Pridemore

ANSTED — Peggy Jean Pridemore, 82, of Ansted, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, August 25, 2013, at Ansted Center, following a long illness.

Peggy was born August 9, 1931, in Ansted. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Grimmett and Edna Nutter Grimmett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell William Pridemore in 1995, four sisters, one brother and a grandchild.

Mrs. Pridemore was retired clerk for the town of Ansted, She was a member of Ansted Baptist Church of Ansted

Peggy is survived by her children, Terry Wood and John of Victor, Darrell Wayne Pridemore and Kathi of Victor, James Edward Pridemore and Beth of Flatwoods, Ky., Steven Richard Pridemore and Teresa of Ansted; a sister, Hazel Mills of Winchester, Va.; 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Ansted Baptist Church with Pastor Jack Eades and Pastor Doug Eades officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens in Victor.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home Chapel in Ansted.

Dreama Kay Stewart

Dreama Kay Stewart, 61, of Beckley, died Friday, August 23, 2013.

Born May 31, 1952, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late James C. and Ruth Dickerson Wagner Sr.

Mrs. Stewart was a homemaker and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Neal Stewart, brothers, James C. Wagner Jr., Robert Wagner, Clifford Wagner, Stephen Wagner, Larry Wagner and sister, Audrey J. Francis.

Left to cherish precious memories are her special children, Rufus Wagner, Gary Wagner, and Deirra Francis; brother, Richard Wagner of Columbus, Ohio; sisters, Dorothy Wagner Hudson of Freeport, N.Y., Texanna Wagner of District Heights, Md. and a host of other relatives and friends.

David Grose Stone

ASBURY — David Grose Stone, 78, of Asbury, W.Va., formerly of Warner Robins, Ga., passed away on Monday, August 26, 2013, at Summers Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hilldale, W.Va., following a short illness.

Born April 8, 1935, in Gauley Bridge, W.Va., he was the son of the late Joseph Dewey and Georgia Grose Stone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Dewey Stone Jr. and two sisters, Barbara Stone and Sylvia Molton.

Mr. Stone was a retired civil service procurement manager, having retired from Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Ga., after 24 years of service. He was a 1954 graduate of Fayetteville High School, Fayetteville, W.Va., attended WVU Tech in Montgomery, W.Va., and graduated from Georgia College in Milledgeville, Ga., with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.

Mr. Stone served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Asbury, W.Va., a member of the Georgia Wilderness Society, and a member of the Ruritan civic service organization. He enjoyed rebuilding antique engines, hiking, and camping. Mr. Stone was an avid outdoorsman and loved nature.

Survivors include three sons, David Stone of Warner Robins, Ga., Charles Stone of Warner Robins, Ga. and Brad Stone and his wife, Jane, of Macon, Ga.; two daughters, Karen Lyons and her husband, Patrick, of Leesburg, Ga. and Susan Tallant and her husband, Mark, of Macon, Ga.; a sister, Ann Gruenwald of Orlando, Fla.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday, August 29, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Asbury, W.Va., with the Rev. Sam Haught officiating. Burial will follow at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville, W.Va. Friends may call Thursday, August 29, 2013 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Asbury, W.Va.

Michael Ray Tincher

OAK HILL — Michael Ray Tincher, 45, of Oak Hill, died on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at CAMC - General Division in Charleston, W.Va.

Born May 4, 1968, at Beckley, he was the son of the late William “Bill” and Joyce Newton Craft.

He was a self-employed auto body technician.

He attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Oak Hill.

Survivors include his wife, Beth Ann Evans Tincher; one brother, Steve Tincher and wife, Tena of Oak Hill and one sister, Debra Pemberton and husband, John of Oak Hill.

He is also survived by nieces, Tina Miller of Oak Hill, Lena Lambert of Oak Hill, Becky Tincher of Oak HIll, Abagail and Bailea Huddleston of Kimberly, Amanda Pemberton of Oak Hill and Elizabeth Li of Oak Hill; great nephews, Harley Tincher, Dakota Miller and Jace Fuller all of Oak Hill; great nieces, Jewell Tincher, Kelsie Miller and Gracie Tincher, all of Oak Hill and his mother and father-in-law, Thomas and Anna Evans of Oak Hill.

In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Tincher was cremated. A memorial service will be on Thursday, August 29, 2013, at 6 p.m. at the Church of God of Prophecy on Patrick Street off Pea Ridge Road in Oak Hill with Pastor Debbie Minor officiating.

LECANTO, Fla. — Carrie Weiford, age 94 of Lecanto, Fla., formerly of Beckley, passed away at the Hospice of Citrus County in Lecanto, Fla. on Tuesday, August 27, 2013.
