Stella Josephine ‘Jo’ Clower Blake

OAK HILL — Stella Josephine “Jo” Clower Blake, 82, of Oak Hill, died on Sunday, April 7, 2013.

Graveside rites and committal services will be on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at 11 a.m. at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill, with Rev. Ralph Shupe officiating. Burial will follow. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org), PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.

Russell Conrad

CRAIGSVILLE — Russell Conrad, 52, of Craigsville, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Wednesday , April 10, 2013, at the Mausoleum of WV Memorial Gardens in Calvin with Rev. Jarrod Price, Rev. Anthony Moss and Rev. Arliss Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the WV Memorial Gardens. 

Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Mausoleum Chapel.

Brandi Nicole Craft

Brandi Nicole Craft, age 27, of Fairdale, W.Va., passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2013.

Born on October 30, 1985, in Beckley, she was the daughter of Thomas Craft and Teresa Evans Craft of Fairdale, W.Va.

Brandi was a homemaker, and was a graduate of Liberty High School. She was a former employee of Shoney’s Restaurant.

Brandi was a member of the Bolt Church of God.

Other than her parents, she is survived by her daughter, Angel Craft; and two brothers,  Tommy Craft and his wife Heather of Maple Fork Road, and Timmy Craft of Fairdale. Also aunts, uncles, and cousins, are among her survivors.  

Funeral services will be conducted at the Bolt Church of God on Thursday,  April 11, 2013, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Randy Pugh officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens at Princeton.

Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.

Michael Henry Creeks

LOGAN — Michael Henry Creeks, age 64, of Logan, passed away Monday, April 8, 2013. 

Memorial Services will be held at a later date. According to his wishes he will be cremated.

Honaker Funeral Home in Logan is in charge of arrangements.

Dixie Joyce Farmer

Dixie Joyce Farmer, age 79, of Beckley, passed on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at St. Frances Select Hospital in Charleston, following an extended illness. 

Mrs. Farmer was born in Bellwood, W.Va. on May 10, 1933 to Earl and Edith McDowell. 

She was a long-term member of The Original Church of God of Crab Orchard, W.Va.

She is preceded in death by her Mother (Edith Woodrum McDowell — 1989), her Father (Earl McDowell — 1938), husband (Rev. Fred C. Farmer — 1983), three sons, (Dennis Coleman — 2002) and (David Coleman — 2012), (Chester Farmer — 2001) and one daughter, (Betty Smith — 2007). Mrs. Farmer is also preceded by her brothers and sisters, Ruth McDowell Lewis — 1997, Rex McDowell, Died at Birth, Kenneth McDowell — 1969, Robert McDowell — 2000, Nancy McDowell Fowler — 1997, and James McDowell — 1990.

She is survived by her children, Dwight Coleman and wife Carla of Savannah, Ga., Mrs. Dennis (Vilma) Coleman, of Dalton, Ga., Steven Farmer and wife Lisa of Fort Worth, Texas, Earl (Pete) Farmer and wife Rita of Church Hill, Tenn., Joyce Sweatte of Calhoun, Ga., Roger Farmer and wife Mary of Baltimore, Md., and Nancy Garner and husband Carl of Mabscott, W.Va.

Mrs. Farmer had 25 grandchildren and over 20 great grandchildren. 

Services to celebrate the life of Dixie Farmer will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel in Beckley, with the Rev. Johnny Alberson officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral chapel in Beckley.

Bobby Gardner

OAK HILL — Bobby Eugene Gardner II, 52, of Oak Hill, passed away Friday, April 5, 2013, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, following a short illness.

Born on May 3, 1960, at Beckley, he was the son of the late Bobby Gardner Sr. and Deloris Ward Gardner.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Kincaid.

Left to cherish his memory include his children: Misty Gardner of Scarbro, Bobby Gardner III of Oak Hill, Nena Gardner of Oak Hill, Matt Daily of Charleston, Bobbie Jean McMillion of Charleston; 11 grandchildren; four brothers, Ernest Gardner, Wally Gardner, Mark Gardner, and Bill Gardner; two sisters, Tammy Vassil and Doris Cooper; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Pastor Dana Gatewood officiating. Burial will follow at Harrah Cemetery on Backus Mountain.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until time of service at noon on Thursday.

Shelia Imogene Sawyers

Shelia Imogene Sawyers, 73, of Stanaford, passed away Sunday, April 7th, 2013, at Bowers Hospice House of Southern, WV, of cancer.

  Born November 10th, 1939, at Backus Mountain. Sheila was the daughter of the late John H. and Myrtle M. Sawyers.

She graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1957 and was employed by Beckley Manufacturing from 1964 until 1977 and K-Mart from the mid eighties until 2005.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law Erma Sawyers and a brother-in-law David “Corky” Harris and one niece Terri Harris Lilly.

Those left to mourn her passing are her brother, Gary Sawyers and companion Carolyn Sue Miller; their family, Stephen and Chris Sawyers, Carl Randall Sawyers and Darlean Sawyers; grandkids, Carl Randall II, Patrick, Jonathan, Jordan and Charlie; her sister, Lila Harris and her family, Debra and Robert Lilly, Barbara and Ricky Green, David and Annette Harris and John Harris; grandkids, Ann-Marie and Patrick McGinnis, Delila Farmer, Robert and Lora Lilly, Sabrina and Nathan Carter and Matthew Green; great-grandkids, Blaine Matherly, Terri and Shaye McGinnis, David Farmer and Robbie and Zach Lilly.

Shelia had been a resident of Stanaford since 1965 and was of the Baptist faith. She loved to read, knit and crochet and watch her soap operas on TV and grew many beautiful flowers all summer long.

The family wishes to thank Raleigh General Hospital, Appalachian Hospital, Ruby Memorial Hospital, Pine Lodge Nursing Home and a special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff of Bowers Hospice House for their loving care of Sheila and the kindness they showed the rest of us. We would also like to thank the friends and neighbors who visited her and brought flowers, candy and fruits and did chores around the house to help her.

Services will be held at 2 p.m.  Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Friends may gather with the family Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
