Anna Cathleen Holcomb McMillion

What a special day it was 98 years ago when God gave you life and, through you, gave us life. Although heartbroken, we are thankful for the time we were able to share with our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother throughout the yeas.

With sadness, Anna Cathleen McMillion, 98, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2013, at the home of her daughter, Margaret Ann. She was a constant source of love, guidance, and generosity and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

As a young bride of 15 in 1930, she and her husband, Rich, lived their lives in Fayette County until his passing in 1990. She remained in their home until her health at 96 years young forced her to  live in Charleston with her daughter, Margaret.

Ann, or Annie as some knew her, devoted her life to caring for those she loved. She dedicated her life to the Lord early on and was a charter member of the Keeney’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Winona. She was the church pianist for over 50 years and served in the church in many capacities.

Next to her family, Annie’s flowers were her pride and joy. The beautiful flowers in her yard were a testament to her green thumb. She enjoyed admiring them on early summer mornings from her porch, where she had her daily cup of coffee. What a sweet treat it was for each of us to be able to sit with Grandma on the porch, and have a visit.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Robert; two infant babies; grandson, Robert Ray; great-grandson, Uriah; great-great-grandson, Christopher; and two sons-in-law, Paul Parrish and David Show.

She is survived by her son, Roy; daughters, Margaret Ann Poling, Jane Parrish and Lindagail Holst (husband Russell); as well as 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends for a quiet visitation on Wednesday, July 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Ansted. A life celebration service will be at the Keeney’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church at Winona at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, with the Rev. Joe Shaffer officiating.

Annie loved flowers but wanted them while she was alive. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations can be made to the Keeney’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 85, Winona, WV 25942.
