Wendell Bruce Bartley

Wendell Bruce Bartley of Beckley died Friday, December 14, 2012.

Per his wishes, he was cremated. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Thomas ‘Teddy’ David Blankenship

Thomas “Teddy” David Blankenship, 55, of Rhodell, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, December 18, 2012.

Born July 19, 1957, in Norfolk Va., he was the son of the late Woodrow Blankenship and Etta Spangler.

Teddy was a coal miner for 18 years, he was a member of the Rhodell Volunteer Fire Department and town mayor, he enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, fourwheeling, playing pool and cards.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years Sherry Blankenship.

Those left to cherish his memory include his two daughters, Crystal Simmons and husband Shawn of Beckley, April Blankenship of Beckley; his brother, Blaine Blankenship and wife Emily of North Carolina; his two sisters Tessie Lester of North Carolina, and Anna Wade of Beckley; his grandson, Landon Simmons, and a sister in law, Patricia Fortner and husband David of Rhodell; several nieces and nephews and other close family and friends who he loved.

Services celebrating Teddy’s life will be held Friday, December 21, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the Rhodell Church of God, with Pastor Gary Eskins officiating. Burial will follow in the Rhodell Cemetery.

Friends may gather with the family from noon until service time Friday at the church.

Enid Lane Price Crawford

RUPERT — Enid Lane Price Crawford, 95, of Rupert, passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at the home of her daughter, in Richmond, Va.

Born March 11, 1917, in Smoot, W.Va., Enid was the daughter of the late Chauncy D. and Fonda M. Hundley Price. In addition to her parents, her husband, Lewis C. Crawford Jr., preceded her in death.

She was the former owner of Enid’s Dress Shop in Rupert and attended Big Clear Creek Baptist Church.

Enid was a loving and caring mother, and everything her family learned about love, loyalty, and kindness, they learned from her.

Her three daughters, Sally Elliott (Frank) of Richmond, Va., Mary B. Demasi (Tony) of Woodbridge, Va., and Susan Adkins (Frank) of Williamsburg, W.Va., will cherish her memory. So will Enid’s five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at Wallace and Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with Mr. Joe Lutz officiating. Burial will follow in the End of the Trail Cemetery at Clintonville, W.Va.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations of sympathy be made to the Greenbrier County Committee on Aging, P.O. Box 556, Rupert, WV 25984.

Jonathan Hornsby, age 30, of Beckley, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at his residence.

William ‘Bill’  ‘Driveshaft’ Johnson

DANESE — William ‘Bill’ "Driveshaft" Johnson, 55, of Stanaford Road, Danese, passed away Sunday afternoon, December 16, 2012, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital, in Beckley, W.Va., after fighting a long battle with heart and lung disease.

Born August 4, 1957, at Beckley, he was the son of the late Clayton M. and Opal I. Buchanan Johnson.

Bill was a plant operator and an electrician who worked for Kingston Resources at Mossy, W.Va. 

 Survivors include his wife, Tammy Sue Keen Johnson of Danese; one son, William Jerry Johnson of Danese; one sister, Narcia Bragg of Layland, W.Va.; one brother, Willard Johnson of Richmond, Va.

Services will be at 3 p.m., Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel of Rainelle, with the Rev. Ron Wood officiating. Burial will follow at Layland Cemetery, Layland.

Friends may call two hours prior to the service (1 to 3 p.m.) at the funeral home. His co-workers will serve as pallbearers.

Gary Ribble Kesler

MOUNT HOPE — Gary Ribble Kesler, 73, of Mount Hope, died on Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at Hilltop Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Hilltop.

Born March 30, 1939, at Mount Hope, he was the son of the late Dewey Ribble and Eva Mae Richmond Kesler.

He was a retired Medical Claims Examiner for the Social Security Administration in Baltimore, Md.

Mr. Kesler was a member of the Mount Hope Wesleyan Church.

He attended VMI and the University of Miami and was a US Army veteran.

His wife, Dorothy Dee Smith Kesler preceded him in death on Feb 10, 2010.

Survivors include one son, Jonathan Kesler and wife, Jeaann of Mount Hope; two daughters, Elizabeth Kesler of Finksburg, Md. and Martha Kesler of Salisburg, Md.; three brothers, James Edwin Kesler and wife, Carol of Pt. Murray, N.J., Wayne Alvin Kesler of Rawlings, Md. and Marvin Galen Kesler and wife, Nancy of Rawlings, Md., and five grandchildren.

Services will be on Friday, December 21, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope, with Rev. Richard Midkiff officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill with military graveside rites by Oak Hill VFW Post #3110.

Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope on Thursday, December 20, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Travis Aaron Kesler, Parrish Bartholomew Roth, Rick Edwards, Todd Conelly, Shane Noah Kesler and Michael Taylor will service as pallbearers.

Jacqueline ‘Pumpkin’ Bradshaw Reed

Mrs. Jacqueline (Pumpkin) Bradshaw Reed, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 14, 2012, following a short illness.

Born in 1939, Jacqueline was the daughter of the late Willis (Slim) Thompson and Elizabeth (Skinny) Bradshaw Fox.

She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Hront Reed of Garland, Texas; a daughter, Rene Reed (Artie) Thomas and three grandchildren, Darius, Jordan, and Andrew Thomas, all of Richardson, Texas; a sister, Elizabeth (Sporty) Fox Williams of Garland, Texas; a brother, John Fox of Beckley; two uncles, Virgil Bradshaw of Beckley, and Sylvester Bradshaw of Chicago, Ill.; an aunt, Thelma Cosby of Beckley, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The wake will be held 6 p.m. on Friday, December 21, 2012 at New Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, 1413 Dairy Road, Garland, TX 75040. The Homegoing service will be held at the same church on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 11 a.m.

Helen Ludwig Stone

Helen Ludwig Stone, age 94, of The Villages At Greystone, in Beaver, W.Va., died quietly early Saturday morning, December 15, 2012, in the comfort of her own room at Greystone Inn.

Born August  7, 1918 in Mooresville of Iredell County, North Carolina, Helen Ludwig Stone, was the daughter of the late George G. and Florence Gibbs Ludwig.

Preceded in death by both of her brothers, SF and George Ludwig Jr. and her sister Sarah Ludwig Stone, Helen was the last member of her generation. She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Alexander D. Debnam…as well as by both of her husbands, Robert O. Debnam in 1962 and Ashton K. Stone in 2004.

Always a devoted mother, grandmother and great  grandmother…Helen joyfully welcomed each new  addition to the family with all of her love. As a life long Presbyterian…she always enjoyed worshipping her Lord,…most recently as a member of Beckley Presbyterian Church … and as the mother of the ‘preacher’ of the Bramwell Presbyterian Church. An avid bridge player all of her adult life, she and her son looked forward each Monday to playing duplicate bridge at the Beckley Woman’s Club.

Survivors include her son, Robert W. “Robin” Debnam and  wife Peggy of Beckley; her granddaughter Carmi Debnam Farrell and husband Rob of Ft. Mill S.C.; her step son, Pete Stone; her step granddaughter, Melissa Gainey Goodwin of Scotland County, N.C.; her step grandsons, Brad Gainey and wife Kira of Baltimore Md., and Carlton Gainey of Raleigh, N.C. and Marty Stone of Colorado, as well as her seven great grandchildren.

The Memorial: A Service Of Witness to the Resurrection will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 27, 2012, at Beckley Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Mr. John McKinnon officiating. Visitation with the family will be at the church during the hour prior to worship. There will be no burial as Helen donated her body to the WV School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, W.Va.

Andrew ‘Bud’ S. Walker Sr.

MEADOW BRIDGE — Andrew “Bud” S. Walker Sr., 76, of Meadow Bridge, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at his home, following a long illness.

Born March 31, 1936, at Quinwood, W.Va., he was the son of the late Andrew Lee and Mamie Lampkins Walker.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Roxie Adkins Walker, and his second wife, Glenna Crookshanks Walker; a daughter, Crystal Walker; two sisters, Dot Lampkins and Gloria Martin, and two brothers, Pete Lampkins and James Walker.

Bud loved hunting and fishing, and had worked as the custodian for Meadow Bridge Schools.

Survivors include two daughters, Anita Vandall of Cartersville, Ga. and Jean Moody (Gary) of Backus Mountain; two sons, Michael Walker (Elizabeth) of Hopewell, Va. and Andrew Walker (Vicki) of Scarbro; 15 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with Pastor Ruth Goins officiating. Burial will follow in the Harrah Cemetery on Backus Mountain.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home in Rainelle.

Kevin Wayne Wilson

 Kevin Wayne Wilson, 48, of Beckley, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, December 6, 2012.

Born November 23, 1964, in Montgomery, W.Va., he was the son of Nancy Jean Wall and the late David Louis Wilson Sr.

In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Kelly E. and Myrtle Wilson, maternal grandparents, Bettes A. and Georgia Wall, brother, Keith Wilson, sister, Lydia Ann Wilson, and two uncles Thomas A. Wall and Harold Allen Wall.

Kevin liked music, playing the guitar, camping, fishing, and loved animals.

Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Nancy J. Steverson Wall (of Beckley), brother, David Wilson Jr. (of Atlanta, Ga.), aunt, Peggy Blankenship (of Atlanta, Ga.), two uncles, Bettes Lee Wall (of Oak Hill, W.Va.) and Raymond Wall (of Topeka, Kan.), niece, Amber Wilson (of Atlanta, Ga.), two nephews, Dustin Wilson (of Atlanta, Ga.), and Jeremy Wilson (of Long Beach, Calif.), and two cousins, Kelly Dorsett (of Atlanta, Ga.) and Briggette Moore (of Atlanta, Ga.).

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2012, at the funeral home. Services will follow the friend gathering at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home, with the Pastor Gene Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
