Charles W. Greene
Charles W. Greene (Winky) of Coal City, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, February 23, 2014, at home, after a long illness due to brain cancer.
He was born March 12, 1957.
He is preceded in death by his parents Charles M. Greene (Chuck) and Mary S. Black Greene.
Charles was a disabled coal miner and he also served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Coal City Freewill Baptist Church.
Charles loved life and lived it to the fullness; going to church and spending time with his family and friends. Up until two years ago he rode his Harley with his brothers in Christ that he went to church with. He always wanted to make a difference in life by reaching out to others telling them about the Lord; making people smile and laugh where ever he went. He never felt sorry for his self, he would always say I am blessed God gave me another day and if he keeps me here or takes me home I am a winner.
Those left to cherish his memory are is loving wife, Debra G. Greene; daughters, Amanda and husband, Jonny Van-dusen of Welling, W.Va., Megan Greene and her boyfriend, Charles Sparks of Crab Orchard, W.Va.; one grandson, baby Preston Tyler Van-dusen; two stepsons, Adam Sanders of Coal City, Perrie and his wife, Tara of Beckley; two step-grandchildren, Alias and Cherish Saunders of Beckley; sister, Marilyn and husband Joe Meadows, their children, Carmen and Nick Meadows of Charleston, W.Va. and many uncles, aunts, and cousins.
He was blessed with a cousin and her husband from Murrells, S.C., Juanita and Dave Basham; they had great influence in his life and he loved and respected them deeply.
Charles’s body was donated to WVU, Morgantown, W.Va. for research to find a cure for cancer. He would always say, I hope to help others that come after me but the real hope is in Christ.
All family and friends are welcome to join us for a Celebration of Life at 5 p.m. at the Coal City Freewill Baptist Church on Thursday, February 27, 2014, with Pastor Charlie Brown officiating.
