MULLENS — On Tuesday, February 25, 2014, Lawrence Goad, 83, of Mullens was called to his Heavenly home to be reunited with his son, Dennis. He passed away at Beckley VA Medical Center after a long illness.
Born November 24, 1930, at Mullens, he was the son of the late Ellis Robert and Nancy Whitt Goad.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his loving son, Dennis Goad and his siblings, Omer Goad, Jessie Goad, and Harrison Goad.
Lawrence was a man who valued family above all else. A U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict, he was dedicated to being a devoted husband to his wife of 57 years and a loving father to his children. Lawrence was always jolly, but he was his happiest at family gatherings. He loved an opportunity to joke, tell stories, and laugh. He spent his later years gardening, watching westerns, and enjoying the company of his grandchildren. Lawrence was also a devoted Christian, who loved reading his Bible and attending Herndon Freewill Baptist Church. Mr. Goad was always a pleasure to be around and he leaves behind many who will miss the laughter of Lawrence, Daddy or Pawpaw.
Lawrence was a former salesman for Mullens Hardware and having last worked for McKinney Furniture, Mullens.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Betty Goad; daughters, Darlene McKinney and her husband, Jonathan of Winston Salem and Donna Royse and her husband, Floyd of Mullens; a sister, Winnie Linkous of Mullens; grandchildren, Jason Goad, Alan McKinney and wife, Carol, Chris McKinney and wife, Christy, Derek Royse, Chad Royse, Erika Goad, and Jared Goad; great grandchildren, Hunter McKinney, Natalie McKinney, Skylar McKinney, Alona McKinney, Braxton McKinney; and daughter-in-law, Annette Goad.
A celebration of the life of Lawrence Goad will be conducted at noon, Friday, February 28, 2014, at Herndon Freewill Baptist Church, Herndon with Rev. William O. Tolliver officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
