James Lowell Rose
RONCEVERTE — James Lowell Rose, age 76, of Ronceverte, passed away Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center.
Born on April 2, 1937, he was the son of the late James Henry Rose and Goldie Marie Barb.
Mr. Rose was a retired construction business owner. He was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge, Shriners and Gideon’s. He was a faithful member and longtime Sunday School Superintendent at the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church.
Other than his parents Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Betty Jane Kennedy Rose. Parental grandparents, Lowell and Pearl Ramsey Rose of Fort Spring, who primarily raised him, and his sister, Patricia Rose Nichols.
Surviving are his two sons, J.K. Rose and wife, Ina, Lowell C. Rose and wife Diane, and daughter, Kathy M. Legg and husband, Ron. Brothers William C. Rose of Ronceverte, Rick Butuyan and wife, Mary Ann, of Ronceverte and David Barb of Lewisburg; sisters, Maria Hacthman of Sweet Springs, Donna Butuyan of Tuckwilla, Wash., and Cindy Bridges of Tennessee; grandchildren: James D. Rose and wife Sara, Terry Gwinn, Jessie Lynn Rose and Catlin Brook Rose. Special thanks to The Seasons and his two caregivers, Carol Winebrimmer and Phyllis Johnson.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church at Fort Spring with the Rev. Rick Duncan and Kathy Keadle officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at the McCraw Funeral Home, Lewisburg.

Vena Florence Shaffer
DANVILLE — Vena Florence Shaffer, 92, formerly of Lawn, passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at the Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with Pastor Chad Neil officiating. Burial will follow at Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service (1 to 2 p.m.).
