Anna Katherine Dickens
Anna Katherine Dickens, 88, of Fairdale, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at the Sunbridge Pine Lodge Nursing Home, surrounded by her family.
Our mother was one of our greatest blessings. She was blessed with a beautiful spirit and Godly wisdom. Her memory will be in our hearts and minds always, as well as in the hearts of all who loved her. We love her and will miss her.
Anna loved reading her Bible and spent most of her free time sewing, crocheting, and quilting. She loved bananas resulting in her longtime nickname, “Anna Banana.” She attended the Shiloh Community Church in Saxon, and was a humble and faithful servant to the Lord.
She was born on January 21, 1925, in Raleigh County, to the late Frank and Rose Bolen Jenkins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Finley Dickens Sr., and a daughter Patty Ann Dickens, as well as three grandsons, Gregory Gene Hunt, Justin Blankenship, and Jeremy Dickens; two sons-in-law, Pastor Jerry Brooks Sr. and Norman P. Hunt, and a daughter-in-law, Vickie Dickens, both of Fairdale, and six brothers, Tom, Henry, Frank, Bobby, J.D., and Buddy Jenkins.
She is survived by her five children, Rose Hunt of Brunswick, Ohio, Jean Brooks of Fairdale, Finley Dickens Jr. of Fairdale, Tom Dickens of Fairdale and Anita Fitzwater of Beckley; her sisters, Peggy Tackett of Fairdale, Betty Kibbe of Michigan, Velma Hudkins of Charleston and Frances Ruth Cox of Kentucky, a brother Ronnie Jenkins of Fairdale.
Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beckley with services beginning at 1 p.m. at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel with Pastor Jerry Brooks Jr. and Doug Berkel officiating. Burial will be at the Worley Cemetery at Bolt.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Brooks, Patrick Dickens, Doug Berkel, Larry Wright Jr., Kenny Hunt, and Greg Lane. Great-grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family would like to thank the staff of Sunbridge Pine Lodge Care Center, for their outstanding care of our Dear Mother.
