Melvin O. Blackburn
Melvin O. Blackburn, 71, of Beckley passed away Saturday, July 20, 2013, at his residence following a short illness.
Born March 18, 1942, in Tams, WV, he was the son of the late Burton and Mable Shelor Blackburn.
He attended Mark Twain High School, was a veteran of the United States Army, and the Army reserves; he was employed for 19 years at Slab Fork No. 10 mines, and retired from the Beckley VA medical center with over 25 years of service. He earned several outstanding service awards during those years. Mel loved watching Cincinnati Reds baseball and WVU football.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother Frank Blackburn.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 50 years Alma Maybelle Blackburn, his son Timothy Blackburn and his wife Melissa of Glen Daniel, a special granddaughter Kimberly Blackburn of Coal City whom he adored and who was by his side until the end. Three very special Stepgrandchildren Dustin, Justin, and Jamie Barker, his three sisters Mary Helmondollar of Crab Orchard, Ruth Helmondollar of Thomasville, Ga., and Martha White of Corinne, and a host of nieces and nephews and his friends at the VFW Post 4326 whom the family wishes to thank for their many years of friendship.
Due to weather concerns the graveside service will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2013, in the Coal City Church of God with the Rev. Vicki Buzminski, and Rev. Danny Helmondollar officiating. Friends attending the service are asked to be at the church by 1:45 p.m.; there will be no visitation. Burial will follow in the Coal City Community Cemetery.

BALLARD — Paul Douglas Blankenship, 74, of Ballard, passed away July 20, 2013.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown. Burial will follow in the Monte Vista Park Cemetery, Princeton. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
