Henry C. Anderson Jr.

MULLENS — Henry Carl Anderson Jr., 89, of Mullens, passed away at the Glenwood Retirement Village in Princeton, on Saturday, November 10, 2012, following a long illness.

Born May 10, 1923, at Tophet, W.Va., he was the son of the late Henry C. Anderson Sr. and Lydia (French) Anderson.

Henry was previously employed by the U.S. postal service as a letter carrier in Mullens. He also was a school bus driver for Wyoming County Schools and managed the Mullens Bowling Center. He was a member of the Mullens High School 1942 State Football Championship team, member of Loyal Order of Moose, member of American Legion, and member of Mullens Masonic Lodge.

A World War II veteran, Henry served in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer USS Fowler and USS Webber. In his leisure he was an avid golfer and bowler, and also took pride in his community and could often be seen trying to keep it clean.   

In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his wife, Velma “Ruth” Anderson and his brother, Harry Anderson.

Those left to cherish his memory include a son, J.C. Anderson and his wife, Judy of Princeton; a daughter, Loretta Pauley and her husband, Mike of Land O’ Lakes, Fla.; one brother, Gale Anderson; two sisters, Frances (Ward) White and Coney (Theodore) McAllister; one sister-in-law, Nettie Warf; eight grandchildren, Dr. Jeremy Morgan, Merrick Rice, Justin Morgan, Brittany Gay, David Anderson, Alese Jewell, Jabez Ryan Anderson, and Jordan Anderson; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be noon, Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Gilbert Dodson officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton.

Friends may call one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Mercer County Veterans Council.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to his caregiver, Cathy Webb, The Maples, Glenwood Retirement Village, and Hospice Compassus, as well as the loyal neighbors and friends for the wonderful care they gave to Henry.

Louise Gay Biggs

MARLINTON — Louise Gay Biggs, age 80, of Marlinton, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital.

Born Nov. 29, 1931, at Tioga, she was the daughter of the late Wilbert Roy and Ilo Myrl O’Quain Crislip.

Louise was a homemaker.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Lacy Biggs; and brothers, Charles, Jim and Waitman Crislip.

She is survived by her daughters: Margaret Crummett and husband, Richard of Staunton, Va., Patricia Ward and husband, John of Beckley, Patsy Lovelace and husband, John of Marlinton; sons, Roy Biggs and wife Vivian of Marlinton, Paul Biggs and wife, Malisa of Waynesboro, Va., Ira J. Biggs and wife, Pat of Staunton, Va.; 14 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at VanReenen Funeral Home in Marlinton from 6 to 8 p.m.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor David McCall officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in the  WV Memorial Gardens at Calvin.

FRANKFORD — Edsel Carl Brown, 81, of Frankford, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at Morgan Funeral Home, Lewisburg.

NARROWS, Va. — James Paul Dillon Jr., 89, of Narrows, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2012, at Riverview Nursing Home, Rich Creek, Va.

Services will be 3 p.m., Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, Peterstown, with Barry Harper officiating. Burial will follow in the Peterstown Cemetery, Giles County, Va.

MT. HOPE — Charles Martin, 51, of Mt. Hope, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2012.

Rosie Mae Martin

DANESE — Rosie Mae Martin, 89, of Danese, passed away early Monday morning, Nov. 12, 2012, at the home of her caregivers, Patricia and Lewis Cales at Sandstone, following an extended illness.

She was born Jan. 11, 1923, at Red Springs, W.Va., the daughter of the late Anderson Harrison and Louie Edna Ennis Goddard.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, George W. Martin Sr.; a son, Roger Lee Martin; sisters, Ruby, Genevie, Virginia and Gladys, and a brother, Owen.

Rosie was a homemaker, and a member of Millbrook Baptist Church at Crickmer. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory are: a daughter, Juanita Hanshew and husband, Hilbert of Danese; a son, George Martin Jr. and wife, Reva of Danese; five grandchildren and spouses, Shelia and Dewey Martin of Virginia, Sandy and Frank Shuck of Danese, Rhonda and Brian Neely of Virginia, Shawn and Shelia Hanshew of Beaver, and Jill and Allen Kinder of Danese; five great-grandchildren: Josh and Kaleigh Neely of Virginia, Maddy and Jessie Shuck of Danese, and Weslee Kinder of Danese; and also a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, 2012, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with Pastor Steve Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Martin Cemetery at Crickmer.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Rainelle. The family would like to extend Very Special “Thanks” to her caregivers, Patricia and Lewis Cales, as well as the staff of Hospice of Southern West Virginia.

Geraldine ‘Jerrie’ McDaniel

SUMMERSVILLE — Geraldine “Jerrie” McDaniel, age 79, of Summersville, WV, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2012, at Charleston, WV.

Born January 6, 1933, at Red Sulphur Springs, WV, she was the daughter of the late James Emette and Elizabeth “Beth” Heslep Belcher.

Jerrie had retired from the Nicholas County Board of Education as a Secretary. She was a member of the Summersville Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her loving husband of 59 years, James Raymond McDaniel, one son, John McDaniel and wife Anne of Charleston, WV, brother, Jimmie T. Belcher and wife Wanda of Summersville, WV, and two granddaughters, Kerri E. McDaniel of Charleston, WV, and Katherine S. McDaniel of Morgantown, WV.

Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, WV, with Rev. David Lancaster and Rev. Jim Malick officiating. GILBOA — Lorena Jane Murphy, 82, of Gilboa, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, November 15, 2012, in the White Funeral Home at Summersville, with Rev. Brad Blanchard officiating. Interment will follow in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery of Nallen.

Linkford Pedigo, 55, of Lester, passed away on Monday, November 12, 2012.

Percy Alexander Saunders

OAK HILL — Mr. Percy Alexander Saunders, 59, of Oak Hill, died Tuesday, November 6, 2012, at his residence.

Born May 14, 1953 in Fayetteville, W.Va., he was the son of the late Edwin Farrell and Martha Booker Saunders.

Mr. Saunders worked at Charleston Construction Company and New Beckley Coal Company, and was a member of  International AFL-CIO and Brotherhood of Teamsters Local Union No. 175.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Eugene and Henry and sister, Martha Ann Gwinn.

Those left to cherish precious memories are his brothers, Edwin Saunders of Bridgeport, WV, Charles Saunders of Charleston, WV, John Saunders of Charlotte, NC, Clarence Saunders of Oak Hill, WV and Robert Saunders of Huntington, WV; sisters, Bertha King of Gary, Ind., Roberta Saunders of Charleston, WV, Bessie Jones of Charlotte, NC and Nancy Saunders of Oak Hill, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, November 15, 2012, at the Ritchie & Johnson Funeral Parlor Chapel, 748 S. Fayette Street, Beckley, with Rev. Abner Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

LANSING — David Lee “Dave” Workman, 25, of Lansing, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2012, at CAMC General Division, Charleston.

Cora Ethel Parrish Wotring

MOUNT HOPE — Cora Ethel Parrish Wotring, 95, of Mount Hope, died on Sunday, November 11, 2012, at Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley.

Born April 30, 1917 at Clifftop, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George Parrish, Sr. and Luvinia Pyatt Parrish.

She was a homemaker and former clerk for Hills Department Store, Beckley. 

Mrs. Wotring was a member of the Mount Hope United Methodist Church, Winolia Chapter No. 59 O.E.S. and was a Pink Lady volunteer at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Her husband, Loraine “Pete” Wotring preceded her in death. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family as she was also preceded by five brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include one son, Raymond “Ray” Wotring and wife, Bonnie of Manassas, VA, a daughter, Nancy Kesler and husband, Galen of Rawlings, MD, five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope, with Dr. Charles Miller officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.
