MULLENS — Henry C. Anderson Jr., 89, of Mullens, passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012.

KOPPERSTON — Corine Blankenship, 77, of Kopperston, passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012.

Cerling Bamon Bowling Jr.

MULLENS — Cerling Bamon Bowling, Jr., 82, of 911 Moran Ave., Mullens, WV, born July 5, 1930, in Hiawatha, West Virginia, entered heavenly eternal life on November 8, 2012, at Bowers Hospice House.

He was the son of the late Cerling Bamon Bowling, Sr., and Josephine Gertrude Hale Bowling.

Known by all as “Junior,” he was preceded in death by his wonderful wife, Joyce Anne Robertson Bowling, in 1992.

He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force as a firefighter in Texas, Alaska, and Washington, D.C. After moving back to West Virginia, he worked predominantly as a meat cutter at Thomas Grocery before he and Joyce opened J and J Supermarket in Mullens. At the time of their retirement in 1990, they owned J and J’s and Bowling’s convenience store and restaurant. His sons consider him a great father, an avid golfer, and an excellent cook. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Up until the time of his death, he volunteered as golf ranger at Twin Falls State Park where he considered his co-workers and golf buddies his second family. He was a member of Mullens United Methodist Church, Mullens Masonic Lodge No. 151, and Admiral No. 50 of the Royal Arch Masons.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Louise and Mildred Vorhees Bowling, who were killed with their father in a car accident in 1945. He was also preceded in death by an infant brother Claude Wiley and his dear brother James Robert Bowling.

Survivors include sons, Ronald Bowling and his wife Susan of Mullens, WV, Donald Bowling and his wife Debbie of Pineville, WV, and Greg Bowling and his wife Jennifer of Milton, WV; grandchildren, Lee Anne Bowling-Angle and her husband Billy of Clifton Forge, VA, Cinda Hewitt and her husband Jay of South Charleston, WV, Luke and Erin Bowling of Milton, WV, and Brett Bowling of Pineville, WV; and great-grandchildren, Savannah and Maria Angle of Clifton Forge, VA. Others survivors include a sister, Sylvia Jean Flanigan and her husband Richard of Princeton, WV, and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Scott Durham, Dr. Tony Flaim, Dave Harsh, Ken McBride, Gary Runion, David “Bugs” Stover, Robert Toler, and Mike Wikel.

A visitation will be held at the United Methodist Church in Mullens, WV, on Monday, November 12, 2012, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for family and friends and a funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church with Reverend Earl Arthur and Mitch Whitt officiating. Burial services with military rites will be held at the Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens at Princeton, WV, following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801, and the Mullens United Methodist Church, 118 Guyandotte Avenue, Mullens, WV 25882.

Margaret Eleanor Helems Butts

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — Margaret Eleanor Helems Butts, 72, of White Sulphur Springs, WV, went home to be with her Lord in the early morning hours of November 10, 2012. 

Born in White Sulphur Springs, WV, she was the daughter of the late Eldridge C. Helems and the late Bernice Jones Weid.

Margaret was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in White Sulphur Springs, and a past worthy matron of the Lewisburg Chapter No. 108 Order of the Eastern Star. Margaret was a 32-year employee of the Greenbrier Clinic, where she greeted both patients and co-workers with her beautiful smile.

She was a 1958 graduate of White Sulphur Springs High School, and a graduate of Dunsmore Business College in Staunton, Virginia.

Margaret is survived by her son, Donald Butts, of White Sulphur Springs, and his wife Anita Butts; her son Michael Butts, of Lewisburg, WV, and Patricia Long; her son, Brian Butts, of Fishers, Indiana, and his wife, Sarah Butts; and her daughter, Jennifer Butts, of Tampa, Florida. Margaret also leaves behind six precious grandchildren: Dakota and Travis Butts, Margaret “Maggie” and Allison Butts, and Isabella and Sophia Butts. In addition to six grandchildren, she was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Noah Taylor. 

A stepbrother, Brice Dean, of Hooper’s Island, MD, is deceased.

Friends may call on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rhema Christian Center in Fairlea, WV. A celebration of Margaret’s beautiful life will begin at 2 p.m., followed by her burial at Greenbrier Memorial Gardens in Lewisburg, WV.

Bernice Lee ‘Bernie’ Walker Grose

On Friday evening, November 9, 2012, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend entered into her eternal life with the Lord. She will be sadly missed but she is where she wants to be. She asked the Lord to come into her heart in April of this year.

She was born on June 2, 1930, at Dot, WV, to the late Howard Walker and Ruby Halstead Walker.

She grew up in Sophia and graduated from Sophia High School in 1948. She met the love of her life Norman Ralph Grose and they were married on December 17, 1949. To this union was born their only child, Beckie.

She and Ralph lived at Tams, WV, later moving back to Sophia in 1959. Ralph died on August 3, 1981. Following his death, she continued living in Sophia, caring for her Mom and Dad and her Uncle Kyle until their deaths.

In 1988 she moved to Cool Ridge to be near her daughter and son-in-law. She lived in her own home until April of 2012. From April until the time of her death she lived with her daughter and son-in-law.

Known to those that loved her as “Bernie,” she leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Beckie and Gary Jones of Cool Ridge. She had two grandchildren, Chris Jones of Myrtle Beach, SC, and his fiancée, Jessica Gillespie, and Amy Jones of Cool Ridge. She had four loving great-grandchildren, Rhiannon Ward, Cole Ward, Kyle Ward all of Cool Ridge and Caleb Gillespie of Myrtle Beach, SC. She is also survived by her only sister, Geraldine “Gerri” Short of Daniels. Although her family was small, she left behind a host of friends that she loved and cherished.

You may say your final goodbyes to Bernie on Monday, November 12, 2012, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at 2 p.m. with services being conducted by Beckie and Gary’s Pastor, Jack Thomas. Following the services she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Ralph, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Family and Friends will be serving as casket bearers.

John D. Hart

NEW VIENNA, Ohio — John D. Hart, 68, of New Vienna, died at 12:33 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2012, in the Highland District Hospital.

He was born on October 9, 1944, in Ansted, West Virginia, the son of the late Arnold and Nettie Neff Hart.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, the former Kay Safford.

Also surviving are his children: Dennis Dean Hart, Dennise Dawn Hart, both of Summersville, WV, Vince Stineman of O’fallon, IL, Angel (Mitch) Dials of Lewis Center, grandchildren: Aspen Prather, Denver Prather, Emily Stineman, 9 nieces and nephews, 16 great-nieces and nephews, 1 great-great-nephew, sisters: Ruth Hogg of Ansted, WV, Joella Herbert of Fayetteville, WV, Patsy McGraw of Ansted, WV, brothers: George Hart of Landrum, SC, Allen (Felicia) Hart of Ansted, WV. He was preceded in death by his brother: Charles Hart, and sister: Norene Emogene Hart.

John was a graduate of Ansted High School. He had worked and retired from DHL in Wilmington, Tecumseh Products, where he was a supervisor for 17 years, and worked for the Schwann food service. John attended the Lee’s Creek Church of Christ. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 343 of Nevada, Ohio, the Elks Lodge 129 of Washington C.H., Ohio, and the Moose Lodge 1167 of Delaware, Ohio.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, in Ebright Funeral Home, Frankfort, Ohio, with Rev. Dan Bill officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

In keeping with John’s wishes, following the funeral service, cremation will take place.

Larry ‘Daddy Buck’ Herndon

LEWISBURG — Larry “Daddy Buck” Herndon, son of the late Ottie and Katherine Herndon, beloved brother, father, “Paw Paw” and friend, passed away November 9, 2012, in the same home in which he was born.

He was an avid deer hunter and ladies man. Former employee of The Greenbrier hotel for 22 years. Owner and operator of Alum Springs Grocery and social club. Former mayor of Vago.

He was born July 23, 1941. He is survived by brother John Herndon and sister Bonnie Wellman and his children, Neal Herndon and wife Dorothy. Shawnee Leonard and husband H.E. Grandchildren Scott and his wife Meagan, Sam, Alex, Emma, Hannah, JT and his great-grandson Logan.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Junior, Jim, Bob and sisters Janet and Mary as well as his son Scott Edward.

There will be a remembrance and celebration of his life on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg from 6 to 8 p.m. Church Memorial Service officiated by Pastor Gary Devart on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at Emmanuel Open Bible Church at 2 p.m. with a luncheon immediately following the service. Honorary Pall Bearers Chester McCoy, Grover Hughes, Donnie Yates, Chris Yates, Jack Yates, Tim Yates and Dino Jackson. There will not be a graveside service.

Geraldine ‘Jerrie’ McDaniel

SUMMERSVILLE — Geraldine “Jerrie” McDaniel, age 79, of Summersville, WV, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2012, at Charleston, WV.

Born January 6, 1933, at Red Sulphur Springs, WV, she was the daughter of the late James Emette and Elizabeth “Beth” Heslep Belcher.

Jerrie had retired from the Nicholas County Board of Education as a Secretary. She was a member of the Summersville Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her loving husband of 59 years, James Raymond McDaniel, one son, John McDaniel and wife Anne of Charleston, WV, brother, Jimmie T. Belcher and wife Wanda of Summersville, WV, and two granddaughters, Kerri E. McDaniel of Charleston, WV, and Katherine S. McDaniel of Morgantown, WV.

Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, WV, with Rev. David Lancaster and Rev. Jim Malick officiating. Burial will follow in the Red Sulphur Community Church Cemetery, Red Sulphur Springs, WV.

Cerethia Tedder, 78, of Glen White passed away Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012.
