Dorothy S. Allen
UNION — Dorothy S. Allen, 92, of Union, passed away Tuesday morning, February 12, 2013, at The Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea.
She was born in Monroe County, W.Va., on April 18, 1920, a daughter of the late Frank Dewey and Norah March McCormick Sibold.
Mrs. Allen was a retired employee of the WV Department of Employment Security at Ronceverte, a member of the Union United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the American Revolution, American Legion Auxiliary and the CEO Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Nevitt Allen on Jan. 5, 2011, a grandson, Joseph Allen on August 14, 1999, and a sister, Betty Jo Bostic on Dec. 29, 1995.
Surviving are four children, Terri, Kristi, David and Mike; seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2013, at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union, with the Rev. Walter Ellison officiating. Burial will follow at the New Lebanon Cemetery at Pickaway.
Friends may call at the Groves Funeral Home in Union from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105-3678.

Kathy Lynn Brewer, 62, of Sophia, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013.
Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Sophia, is in charge of the arrangements.
Betty Jo Brooks, 75, of Oak Hill, passed away early Tuesday morning, Feb. 12, 2013, at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill, following a short illness.
Born Nov. 20, 1936, at Charleston, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James M. and Hazel Lee Blankenship Pierce.
Betty was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother. She had worked as a nurse’s assistant at Fayette Continuous Care in Oak Hill, and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron ‘Bruce” Brooks in 2003; three daughters, Sharon Legg, Brenda Maynor, and Marie Buckland; two sons, John and Lloyd Brooks; two brothers, Bill and Russell Pierce, and one granddaughter, Tina Turner.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Brooks of Oak Hill; a sister, Carolyn Lambert of Crab Orchard; three brothers, Roger Pierce of Beckley, Wayne Pierce of Beckley, and Ronald Pierce of Crab Orchard; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, W.Va. Burial will follow in Simms Cemetery on Loops Road, Sewell Mountain in Rainelle. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
