Luella Virginia Rock

On February 5, 2013, the trumpets sounded a heavenly tune; the pearly gates of heaven opened wide; as the streets of gold glow. Our precious Luella, wife, mother, grandmother accepted her wings and Heaven’s newest angel will dance peacefully, on those streets made of gold, as she reunites with our heavenly Father, family, and friends. While our hearts are heavy, and heads hung low, our tears will be shed as our Savior crowns his newest angel’s head.

Luella Virginia Rock, 74, was born in Calloway Heights on February 23, 1938. She was daughter to Carl and Rosie Meadows Treadway of Glen Morgan. Her passing separates a fifty-eight-year celebration of marriage to her loving husband, Billy M. Rock of Beaver.

Luella was of the Baptist faith, having life-long membership and fellowship with Glen Morgan Missionary Baptist Church and its members. She was a loving wife and mother, and a devoted homemaker having lived the past nineteen years in Beaver. She was a member of the Ladies Circle at Glen Morgan Missionary Baptist Church where she loved to make quilts with the ladies that were given to those in need, veterans, and nursing homes. She loved to make her grandkids smile and never met a stranger; she was loved by all who were blessed by her presence.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Rosie Treadway; sisters Edith Cook, Paulette Webb, Carlene Treadway, and Mary Ann Danaher; brother Glendon Treadway; daughter Kathy Hamilton; granddaughter Heather Hamilton; and “Grandpa” Melvin Burke.

The lasting legacy of her blessings was passed on to her family and friends: brothers Dennis Treadway and wife Shella of Shady Spring, Walter Treadway and wife Jean of Glen Morgan; children Buster and wife Sherry Rock of Beckley, Rosemary and husband Bobby Staats of Cool Ridge, Timothy and wife Dinah of Cool Ridge, Glenna and husband Mark Dempsey of Glen Morgan, and Johnny and wife Michele Rock of Beaver; grandchildren Garrett Rock of NC, Kimberly Gwinn of Shady Spring, Timothy Rock II of Cool Ridge, Deborah Plumley of Sullivan, Jennifer Hash of Glen Fork, Krystal Akers of Cool Ridge, Emily Farley of Daniels, John Rock of Beaver, Adam Rock of Beaver, Joseph Staats of Cool Ridge, Aaron White of Beaver, Nick Cook of Beckley, Austin Henderson of Beckley, Aiden Harrah of Beckley; great-grandchildren Seth Moore, Brianna Hash, McKenzye Rock, Bryce Rock, Gavin Plumley, Dakota Akers, Aiden Hash, Colten Rock, Kaleigh Akers, Rylan Plumley, and Jayden Whitt. Special friends that Luella held very dear to her heart: Penny Cooper Wills and Heather Pack.

Funeral services will be conducted to celebrate the life of Luella Rock on Saturday,  February 9, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Glen Morgan Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. Ernie Junior Moye officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. Sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
