Pauline Snead Reed
On Thursday, January 24th, 2013, after a long and fruitful life, our most cherished Pauline Reed of the Pleasant Hills Community passed away at the Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital. She was in her 91st year.
The first of two children, Pauline Virginia Snead was born on January 2nd, 1922, at Arista. She was the daughter of the late Booker Rastus and Mildred Virginia Lovell Snead. Her brother, Bernard, has preceded her in death.
Pauline spent her childhood at Rhodell, where she attended Stoco High School. Pauline grew up with a neighbor boy, Luther Reed. Pauline and Luther were married on October 28th, 1940. They have been blessed to be married 72 years, two months and 27 days. To their union were born two sons, Douglas Rogers who died in infancy and Gregory Allen who is married to Donna Lynn; they live in Dover, Del. Pauline and Luther were residents of Tams for 30 years, where she worked in the company store and the post office. Since 1970, Pauline and Luther have made their home in Pleasant Hills. They worshiped at the Oak Grove Christian Church.
Pauline enjoyed gardening, raising flowers and canning. She also liked her game shows.
Pauline is also survived by her sister-in-law, Jackie Snead, and her children of Myrtle Beach, S.C.
At the end of the day, we her family realize how blessed we are to have Pauline for so long. So to this beloved wife and mother, we now give you back to God. May She Rest In Peace.
On Sunday, January 27th, at 2 p.m. we will remember the life of Pauline with a “Service of Remembrance” at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Pauline and Luther’s pastor, Kelly Gowan, will be officiating. Pauline will be laid to rest in the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour.
Pallbearers will be members of Luther’s Sunday School Class at the Oak Grove Christian Church.
The family suggests donations of sympathy can be made to the church in Pauline’s name.
Condolences may be sent to the family’s guestbook at www.meltonmortuary.com.
