Lawrence Melvin Whitlock
OAK HILL — Lawrence Melvin Whitlock, 87, of Oak Hill, WV, died on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Beckley, WV.
Born October 29, 1926, at Dewitt, WV, he was the son of the late Edward and Lola Keenan Whitlock.
He was a retired Truck Driver for Smith Transfer.
Lawrence was a member of Mount Hope Lodge No. 103, A.F. and A.M. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Three brothers, Ralph Whitlock, Charles Whitlock and Bill Whitlock, and a sister, Helen Stone, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Helen “Sissy” Vannatter Whitlock; one son, Larry Whitlock and wife, Cindy, of Oak Hill; and one sister, Margaret Spradlin.
Also surviving are his four grandchildren, Mel Whitlock and wife, Gina, of North Pole, Alaska, Stacey Ellison and husband, Brian, Jeff Whitlock of Oak Hill and Laura Whitlock of Oak Hill; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor Mike Kees and Rev. Allen Gallimore officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
