Walter Kinton Smith
FOREST HILL — Walter Kinton Smith, 92, of Forest Hill, went to be with the Lord Thursday, May 16, 2013, after an extended illness.
Born December 22, 1920, he was the son of the late Henry and Hazel Roles Smith.
Most of his life was spent in the Forest Hill community. Walter was an educator for 40 years in the Summers County school system. He accepted the Lord at the age of 14 and was an ordained Deacon for 62 years in the Fairview Baptist Church at Forest Hill. Other leadership roles in the church included Superintendent of Sunday School, member of the church choir and Men’s Bible Class teacher. Walter was also a member of the Masonic Grand Lodge AFAM #62 in Hinton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Larry Calvin, a grandson, J.B. Smith, and brothers, Elmo and Eddie Smith.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Ruth Foster Smith, two sons, Danny and wife Ann Smith of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Dwayne of Charlotte, N.C., three granddaughters, Reneé, Brittany and Charity Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Fairview Baptist Church, Forest Hill, with Rev. Delmas Wolfe and Pastor Mike McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday at the church.
