OAK HILL — Garry Lee Barton, 65, of Oak Hill, died on Saturday, May 11, 2013.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Ralph Shupe officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Paul Daniels

On Saturday afternoon, May 11th, 2013, our most cherished, Paul Daniels of Sandlick, passed away at his home. Paul was blessed to die very peacefully surrounded by all his children. He was 68 years of age. 

Known affectionately as “Dumpy,” Clayton Paul Daniels was the second of four children. Born on March 15th 1945, he was the son of the late Clarence “Red” and Lena Prunest Daniels. His sister, Susie Dunbar, and brothers, Richard and Freddie Daniels have preceded him in death. 

Paul was a long time resident of Sandlick. He was a retired coal miner, having last worked at Beckley Coal Company. In his leisure time, he enjoyed hunting. 

Paul was married to the former Connie Burgess. To this union was born Kim, Peggy, Paul and Joetta. Paul and Connie were fortunate to always stay close to their family. Sadly, Connie died on Dec. 3rd, 2009. 

Paul was the beloved “Dad” to his children, daughters, Kim Nedelco and her husband, Mark of Floral City, Fla., Peggy Parks of Glen Daniel, son, Paul Daniels and his wife, Stephanie of Grandview and daughter, Joetta Settle of Union Town, Pa.; he was the proud “Pa Paw” to nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. 

On Wednesday, May 15th, at 3 p.m. Paul will be remembered with a service at the Mattsville Community Church. Pastor Ronnie Hall will be officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Daniels Cemetery at Sandlick.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the church and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Marye Marshall Honaker Davis

ALDERSON — Marye Marshall Honaker Davis, age 84, of Alderson, formerly of Crescent Road, Beckley, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2013, at Summers Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hilldale, W.Va., following a long illness.

Born February 8, 1929, at Lillydale, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Loney P. and Ruby Smith Honaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Davis in June 1983; a nephew, Paul Richard Honaker; and a niece, Michelle Lynn Richmond.

Mrs. Davis attended school at Alderson and was a graduate of Alderson High School Class of 1947. She was then employed by Smith’s Drug Store in Alderson. In 1952 she married well-known Beckley artist, Charles F. Davis. They moved to Kentucky, but later returned to Beckley. There she was employed as a cashier at the Glass House Restaurant on the West Virginia Turnpike. Until her retirement in 1984, she was the office manager at the Beckley office of Fleshman Monument Company of Charleston, W.Va.

Survivors include a brother, Richard P. Honaker and his wife, Orah, of Alderson; a sister, Kitty Ellard of Union, W.Va.; a niece, Kathy Mann and her husband, Bob, of Union; two great-nephews, Michael and Matthew Mann, both of Union; and a special friend, Gwen Tucker of Beckley.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Sunset Mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley, with the Rev. Dr. Charles Bright officiating.  Entombment will follow at the Sunset Mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. There will be no visitation.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Hallie A. Franklin Farley

PRINCETON — Hallie A. Franklin Farley, 87 of Twin Oaks Circle, Princeton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 12, 2013 at her home.

Born September 9, 1925, in Shady Spring, she was the daughter of the late Robert Pete and Maude Reed Bryant.

She was a graduate of Shady Spring High School and the Huntington Beauty School. She spent many years as a hairdresser and was an accomplished seamstress and she enjoyed gardening. She was a member of the Cornerstone Family Church in Princeton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Carline C. Franklin and her second husband, Dewey Boone Farley, and five Siblings, Avenel Fink, Anis Skaggs, Theris Ball, Brownie Bryant and Reedie Bryant.

She will be lovingly remembered by her two children, Kathy Coleen Bailey and her husband Terry of Elgood and Benjamin Reed Franklin of Dickenson, Texas; six grandchildren, Rhonda, Carrie, Cole, Fallon, Beth and Ashton; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Brylis Jessup of Texas City, Texas and Niddy Aorear of Rockport, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013, from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton, with Pastor Scott Catron officiating. Burial will follow in the Skaggs Cemetery in Shady Spring.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may visit with the family Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.

Lonnie Ray Hatfield

Lonnie Ray Hatfield, age 75, of Eccles, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at his home.

Born on July 18, 1937, in Mingo, W.Va., he was the son of the late Elliott Hatfield and Icie Marie Robin Hatfield.

Mr. Hatfield was a former coal miner and a mechanic.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and had made his home at Eccles for most of his life.

Mr. Hatfield was preceded  in death by his wife, Elizabeth, by brothers Willard and Carl Hatfield, and by sister Ethel Nadine Maynor.

Survivors include his children;  Donna Epling and her husband Michael of Winchester, Virginia, and Lonnie Ray Hatfield Jr. and his wife Janet of Lithia Springs, Ga.; three sisters, Carrie Spangler and her husband Sonny of Mabscott, Ann Lambardi and her husband Roger of Florida, Pearl Maxine Hughes of Beckley; two brothers, Edward Hatfield and his wife Mary of Mabscott, and Albert Hatfield of Florida; five grandchildren, Amber, Kendal, Tia, Matt, and Chris; six great-grandchildren, Jazzmin, Jaiden, Emmy Lou, Braxton, Lillian, and Colton.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at 12:30 p.m., with Rev. Robert Meadows officiating.

Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home one hour prior to the services. Following the services, his body will be cremated.

LINDSIDE — Rose Marie Haynes, 57, of Lindside, formerly of Princeton, passed away Friday, May 10th, 2013.

Donnie Louise Mann

Donnie Louise Mann, age 76, of Shady Spring, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2013, at the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.

Mrs. Mann was born on June 14, 1936, at Flat Top, she was the daughter of the late Corgel Lilly and Bertha Lilly.

Mrs. Mann was a homemaker, and had made her home in Shady Spring for the past 13 years, having moved from Michigan. 

She was preceded in death by her husband,  William “Sonny” Mann,  a son Roger Mann, a brother Leon Lilly, and a sister Bonnie Farlow.

Survivors include her children: Mitchell Mann of Waterford, Mich., Ronnie Mann of Creamery, and Gerald Mann and his wife Sandra of Shady Spring; a grandson Kevin Mann and his wife Wanda of Shady Spring, other grandchildren include Richard Adams, Lauren Adams, Joseph Fontilla, Christopher Mann, Andrew Mann, Bradley Mann, and Timothy Mann; two great grandchildren, Elizabeth Mann and Lucas Mann; a brother, Benjamin Lilly of Pontiac, Mich., and a sister, Dotsie Hufford of Ona, W.Va.

Funeral Services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Terry Utterback officiating. Burial will follow at the Camp Ground Cemetery at Creamery.

Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. until service time on Thursday.

Alfred Albert Torres

Alfred Albert Torres, 55, of Beckley, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at his home, following a sudden illness.

Born May 18, 1957, in San Jose, Calif., to Louis Jess Torres (Lola) of San Jose, Calif., and his late mother Dorothy Lucille White.

Alfred was a proud United States Marine veteran and served our country during the Vietnam era, where he was a 0311 Ground Pounder and Sharpshooter. He was a very kind and generous man and was very attached to all children and all children loved him. He enjoyed watching football, especially the San Francisco 49’ers, and also played football in his younger days. He also enjoyed movies such as westerns, action, and his favorite movie “Captains Courageous.”

In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Waddups.

Those surviving include his wife, Anna Marie Torres; sister, Gail Cusick and husband Jim of Texas; aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family, and a host of nieces, nephews, and of course a multitude of friends from all over.

Mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Beckley, with Father Samuel Sacus officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity, where the American Legion Post 32 Honor Guard will be conducting military graveside rites.

The gentlemen serving as pallbearers will be Keith Manning, Randall Parsons, Tony Elswick, Rick Smith, and Randy Smith.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rose and Quesenberry in Beckley.
