Elizabeth Jarrell

Elizabeth Jarrell of Rock Creek died Friday, March 21, 2014.

At the request of the family there will be cremation only.

Franklin David Jenkins

CLEAR FORK — Franklin David Jenkins, 79, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Bowers Hospice House in Cranberry.

Born January 20, 1935, in Winding Gulf, WV, he was the son of the late Bernie C. and Nancy Ellen Jenkins.

Franklin was retired from the U.S. Navy, having served his country for 22 years. After retiring from the military, he worked as a Diesel Instructor for Ben Franklin Career Center in Dunbar, WV.

He enjoyed restoring old cars, playing golf and playing with his grandchildren and grandnieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucienne (Charlie) Jenkins, and two brothers, Johnny Lee Jenkins and Bernie (Sonny) Jenkins, Jr., and his wife, Joyce E. Jenkins.

In addition to his loving and devoted wife of 33 years, Rita Mae Short Jenkins, he is survived by his son, Phillip Franklin Jenkins and wife, Linda, of Norfolk, VA; sister and friend, Patty R. Fincham and husband, Jack, of Brenton, WV; brother, Jacob H. Jenkins and wife, Doris, of Bells Island, NC; sister-in-law, Linda Fortner Jenkins of FL; grandchildren, Phillip Jenkins II of FL and Zachary and Danielle Jenkins of Norfolk, VA; his loving nephew, David W. Blevins, who helped with his care for years; several nieces and nephews; and cousins by the dozens.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2014, in Evans Funeral Home Chapel; the Rev. Hannibal Blankenship, Jr., and Rev. Erwin Gregory will officiate. Entombment will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Matheny. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Military Honors will be conducted by Wyoming and McDowell County Honor Guard No. 8364. The family will receive friends 12 p.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home.
