Carroll B. Calvert
BLUEFIELD, Va. — Carroll B. Calvert, 91, of Bluefield, VA, went to be with the Lord early Saturday morning, March 22, 2014, at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.
Born April 17, 1922, in Trafford, AL, he was the son of the late Joe DeForrest and Ethel (Foust) Calvert. Carroll served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 508th Parachute infantry and was awarded the Silver Star for his gallant service in the war. Carroll then spent his working career as a heavy equipment mechanic and electrician for Westemoreland Coal. He was a member of the Cumberland Heights Baptist Church in Bluefield, and served as the Past Master of the Masonic Lodge #52 in Beckley, WV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Elizabeth Elam, Etheleen Owens, and Lorene Hope.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Bernice E. (Travis) Calvert of Bluefield, VA, his son, George “Skip” Calvert and wife Camillia of Oak Hill, his daughter, Nancy Lamb and husband Randy of Bluefield, VA, his brother, Joe “Sonny” Calvert of Charleston, a granddaughter, Leslie E. Nagle and husband Harold, and 2 great-grandsons, Noah and Reichen Nagle, all of Greensboro, NC.
Services to honor the life of Mr. Calvert will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 24, 2014, at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Jim Kestner officiating.
There will be a visitation prior to the funeral service from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Calvert will be entombed in Roselawn Memorial Gardens the following day, and family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Ruby Helen Linkous Fleenor
KOPPERSTON — Ruby Helen Linkous Fleenor, 87, of Kopperston, WV, entered Heaven’s gates on Friday, March 21, 2014, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV.
She was born February 20, 1927, in Cranes Nest, VA, a daughter of the late Leonard and Minnie Johnson Linkous.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her loving husband Carl Edward Fleenor, Sr.; a sister Ethel “Toots” Hilman; and a brother Bob Linkous.
Ruby’s Kind and generous spirit made all around her feel special. She loved her family with all of her being, and her strength, grace, and dignity will be remembered by all who knew her. Ruby was of the Christian faith, and she was an angel whom God allowed to walk with us. She was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Our hearts mourn her loss, but rejoice in knowing we will meet again.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving son Carl Edward (Bev) Fleenor, Jr., of Kopperston; four sisters Marie Linkous of Clinchco, VA, Evelyn Saylers of Castlewood, VA, Bessie Castle of Castlewood, VA, and Gayneal (Jim) Skeens of Mt. Pleasant, TX; three brothers Herbert Linkous of Kopperston, Charlie (Shirley) Linkous of Castlewood, VA, and Jerry Ray (Brenda) Linkous of Dante, VA; three grandchildren Anessia (Rich) Thomas, Brandon (Kristy) Fleenor, and Chris (Mandy) Fleenor; five great-grandchildren Aly Fleenor, Jaeden Fleenor, Ian Thomas, Parker Thomas, and Mandolin; and Christian Fleenor Due on April 8, 2014; and a host of other loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday, March 24, 2014, in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV, with Rev. James Hamrick officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Palm Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Matheny, WV. Friends may gather with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2014, at the funeral home.
