Joseph Bazzilla Sr. passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 24, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Logan with Father Yesu Golla officiating. Burial and military graveside rites will follow at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby. The family would like to welcome everyone back to the church for a dinner following the burial. Friends may call on the family from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at the funeral home, with Scripture readings at 8 p.m.

NETTIE — Jackie Renee Bennett, 42, of Nettie, died March 19, 2014.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 22, in Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood. Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. until service time in the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Larry Gawthrop. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Nettie.

ALDERSON — Beverly Kay Reed Carter, 60, of Alderson, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014.

Burial will follow at the Mount Vernon Cemetery, Fort Spring. Patricia Lynn Caudill

Patricia Lynn Caudill, 48, of Bolt went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 20, 2014. Born July 10, 1965, she was the daughter of Elmer and Lounice Jeffrey.

Patricia enjoyed making blankets and quilts; spending time with her family and friends, and she loved her dogs.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Charles Caudill; son, Charlie and fiancée, Megan Horton, parents, Elmer and Lounice Jeffrey; brother, Johnny Jeffrey, and sister, Darla Jeffrey; also, many friends and family.

Services will be held at 12 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor Jerry “Elwood” Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Logan, WV.

Friends may gather with the family Sunday from 11 to 12 at the funeral home.

Franklin David Jenkins, 79, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 24, in Evans Funeral Home Chapel; the Rev. Hannibal Blankenship Jr. and the Rev. Erwin Gregory will officiate. Entombment will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Matheny. Military honors will be conducted. The family will receive friends from noon until time of service Monday at the funeral home.

Craig Brandon Kirkham

TALCOTT — Craig Brandon Kirkham, 34, of Talcott passed away at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Princeton Community Hospital following a short illness.

Born September 17, 1979, at Princeton, he was the son of Norman Lowell and Tona Romeo Kirkham of Talcott.

Craig was a 1997 graduate of Summers County High School in Hinton and a 2002 graduate of Concord University. He was a former sales associate for AT&T and was currently a personal banker for City National Bank in Lewisburg. He enjoyed working at the bank and loved the entire staff there. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hinton, Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, and was a lifelong resident of Summers County. Craig had the distinction of being the 8th great-grandson of both Colonel James Graham and Samuel Gwinn, who were among the earliest pioneer settlers in the Greenbrier River Valley at Lowell, West Virginia. Craig’s hobbies included fly fishing and grouse hunting. Craig endeared himself to many people in his life and will be missed by all who came to know and love him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Almond Kirkham, in 2012. Also preceded by his maternal grandfather, Tony J. Romeo, and his paternal grandfather, Frank Norman Kirkham.

Besides his parents, survivors include a sister, Laura Kirkham Caldwell of Talcott. Niece, Brooklyn Caldwell, and nephew, Kobe Caldwell, both of Talcott. Maternal grandmother, Mitzi Romeo of Bluefield, WV. Paternal grandmother, Wanda Bennett of Hinton. Uncles, Michael J. Romeo of Bluefield, WV, Anthony J. Romeo of Union, KY, John D. Romeo of Alliance, OH, and Frank Kirkham and wife Terri of Hinton. Aunts, Elizabeth Blasingame of Kernersville, NC, and Debbie Wykle and husband Alfred of Hinton. Close friend and companion, Amanda Baker of Talcott. Two special friends, Alexis and Brandon Baker, as well as numerous cousins also survive.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2014, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hinton with Father Rey Landicho and Father Arthur Bufogle as concelebrants. Rite of Committal will follow in Keller Church Cemetery at Lowell, West Virginia. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. Sunday evening at Pivont Funeral Home in Hinton, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Pallbearers will be: Connor Boyd, Lake Wykle, John Cooper, Brian Kirkham, Brad Kirkham, Austin Lilly and Lee Pivont.

Wesley Earl Lilly

RUPERT — Wesley Earl Lilly, our beloved husband, father and grandfather, 85, of Rupert, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 20, 2014.

Born February 14, 1929, in Jettsville, he was the son of the late Sandy Wetzel Lilly and the late Bill and Iva Amick Lilly Collins.

Mr. Lilly was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War, and a retired coal miner. He enjoyed hunting and caring for his pet dogs. Earl was a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Church, at Grassy Meadows, and he had a love for God’s Word.

Earl loved to sing gospel music, often accompanied by his wife. He had a warm, hearty laugh and an endearing sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by his family, extended church family and friends.

In addition to his mother, father and stepfather, he is preceded in death by 3 sisters June Boyd, Vida Harris and Ina Pettit and a brother Wetzel Lilly.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Wanda White Lilly; a daughter Ardena Osborne and husband Ron of Rupert; a son Steve Lilly and wife Carol of Rupert; a sister Drema Tincher of Jettsville; a brother Bart Lilly of Jettsville; 4 grandchildren Jason Osborne and wife Candice, Leah Yoakum and husband David, Jr., Lora Weikle and husband Justin and Joshua Bibbee; and 6 great-grandchildren Jayden Osborne, Eli Osborne, Jaxon Weikle, Lily Weikle, Myka Lilly and Joshua Earl Bibbee.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 23, in the Gospel Lighthouse, Grassy Meadows, officiated by Pastor Butch Legrand and Pastor Felix Baker.  

Friends may call one hour before the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.

Sophia Mantel

On Wednesday, March 19th, 2014, our most cherished aunt, Sophia Mantel of Beckley, formerly of Eccles, passed away in her 91st year of life.

The first of three daughters, Sophia May Mantel was born on Oct. 15th, 1922, at Whitby. Her father, Fred Mantel, died at an early age in a slate fall in the mines; her mother was Ina Aliff Mantel. She died in 1981. Sophia’s sisters Mary Cottle died in 1999 and Ruby Keller died in 2011.

A resident of Eccles most of her life, Sophia attended the Glen View Regular Baptist Church.

Sophia leaves to cherish her memory her nieces and nephew, Diana Farley, Cathy Stover, Darlene Shelton and Fred Keller; there are several great-nieces and nephews as well as great-great-nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends today (Saturday, March 22nd) from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. There will be a service at 8 p.m.

A private burial will be in the Aliff Cemetery at Eccles where Sophia will be laid to rest beside her parents and sisters.

Robert Eugene ‘Bob’ Mullins

GREENVILLE — Robert Eugene “Bob” Mullins, age 75, of Greenville, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 20th, 2014, at his home. Born March 23rd, 1938, in Charleston, W.Va., he was the son of the late James G. and Myrtle Mullins. Bob was a member of the United Steel Workers Union of America local 14614. After having worked as a heavy duty diesel mechanic with Vecellio & Grogan, he later was employed with Mead Westvaco, and sought retirement while employed with Bowman’s Cattle Company.

Bob was an active member in his community not knowing a stranger. He was a faithful member of the Crimson Springs Church. Prior to retirement Bob volunteered time as a little league basketball coach. He also found great joy in trading and selling, and loved attending flea markets or auctions. After retirement Bob enjoyed the fellowship of his church, volunteering much of his time to church functions; when not occupied there, he also enjoyed wood working, cookouts, family time and football.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, John Mullins.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty A. McGraw Mullins of Greenville; 2 sons, Michael E. Mullins and his wife, Rebecca, of Greenville, and Jeffery A. Mullins and his wife, Tammy, of Greenville; 1 daughter, Debbie G. Herold and her husband, Mike, of War Ridge; 3 former daughters-in-law, Donna G. Crook, Michele A. Mullins, and Marilyn Mullins; 11 grandchildren, Joshua M. Herold and wife Becky, Lexi M. Cook and husband, Kevin, Lucas M. Mullins, Abby E. Mullins, Miranda K. Mullins, Aliyah S. Mullins, Aaron Koontz and his wife, Ashley, Nina Crawford, Dakota T. Yates, L. Hunter Yates, and Morgan B. Gill; 6 great-grandchildren, Cody and Bailey Herold, Braxton, Mason and Sydney Cook, and Brooklyn Mullins; 3 brothers, Bill Mullins of Bartow, Fla., James Mullins of Hudson, Fla., and Larry Mullins of Simpsonville, S.C.; 1 sister, Patty Baria of Angier, N.C.; 2 brothers-in-law, Bill McGraw and wife, Barbara, and Gary Wells and wife, Loretta; 2 sisters-in-law, Charlotte Meadows and husband, James, and Helen McGraw.

Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 23rd, at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union, with Pastor Jimmy Rogers and Reverend Hugh Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Hedding Cemetery at Lillydale.

Friends may call at the Groves Funeral Home in Union 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 22nd, where a visitation will be conducted to celebrate Bob’s life.  

Pallbearers will be Mike Herold, Josh Herold, Lucas Mullins, Kevin Cook, Junior McMillon, and Zachery Elmore.

Mr. Leo Porecca of Beckley died Friday, March 21, 2014.
