Elizabeth Belle George Belcher
PRINCETON — Elizabeth Belle George Belcher, 86, of Princeton, formerly of Belcher Mountain, died Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at her home following a long illness.
Born November 24, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Edith Horne George.
Mrs. Belcher was a homemaker and was a member of the Little Vine Regular Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved being surrounded by her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin W. Belcher Sr. and her brother, Homer George.
Survivors include one son, Calvin W. Belcher Jr., and his wife Judy of Welch; four daughters, Patricia Bishop and her husband, Denny of Belcher Mountain (Welch), Janette Koger and her husband, Ronald of Princeton, Genieve Miles and her husband, Bill of Keystone, and Evelyn Green and her husband, Larry of Keyrock (Pineville); seven grandchildren, Krista Harvey and her husband Jeff of Bridgeport, Keith Belcher of Beckley, Jamie Press and her husband, Danny of Roanoke, Va., Michele Dunn and her husband, Darrell of Keystone, Kevin Grubb and his wife, Lori of Bluefield, Heather Feeney Copen and her husband, Mike of Meadow Bridge, and Jason Green of Beckley; seven great grandchildren, Ricky East and his wife, Stacey of Bluefield, Alexis Harvey of Bridgeport, Jarred and Katie Grubb of Bluefield, Benjamin Feeney of Meadow Bridge, and Valarie, Madison and Noah Press of Roanoke, Va.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, August 17, 2013, at the Elkhorn Regular Baptist Church, Belcher Mountain, with Pastor Gene Pennington, Elder Bryce Phillips, Pastor Ralph Steele and Denny Bishop, officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service. Burial will follow in the Elkhorn Church Cemetery, Belcher Mountain.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2013, at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Keith Belcher, Kevin Grubb, Jason Green, Mike Copen, Jeffrey Harvey, Danny Press, and Darrell Dunn and great grandson, Ricky East. Honorary pallbearers will be Benjamin Feeney and Jarred Grubb.

Edward L. ‘Chub’ Burchette
CLEARFORK — Edward L. “Chub” Burchette, 74, departed this life Sunday, August 11, 2013.
Born February 8, 1939, in Baileysville he was the son of the late Greely and Lucinda Bailey Burchette.
Chub worked for U.S. Steel for 34 years as a member of Local Union 1713, and was a bus driver for Wyoming County Board of Education. An avid hunter of any kind of wildlife that was in season he and David took advantage of. They always planned vacations around hunting season. He killed a large Boone Crocket Caribou in Canada on one of his hunting trips. Chub will be sadly missed by his little Jack Russell dog, Rex-An who was his constant companion.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Burchette and Freely “Tom” Burchette.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Deanna Burchette of Clear Fork. They were married on August 4, 1958, by his grandfather Floyd C. Graham. A son, David Keith Burchette and wife, Phyllis of Clear Fork; a brother, Garland Eugene Burchette of Kegley; two sisters, Joyce Miller and Juanita Growe both of Pineville; a sister-in-law, Miriam Burchette; two brother-in-laws, William C. Cook of San Antanio, Texas and Jack D. Cook of Clear Fork; several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.
A celebration of Chub’s life will be 7 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2013, at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel with Rev. Seth Cline officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. Saturday, August 17, 2013, in Roselawn Cemetery in Princeton. Those wishing to attend should meet family at the mausoleum on Saturday.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

James E. Dix
HINES — Heaven gained a precious angel on Monday, August 12, 2013. James E. Dix, 75, of Hines, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Ronceverte, West Virginia.
Born December 15, 1937, in Webster County, WV, he was the son of the late Walter and Gertrude Cogar Dix. James was devoted to his wife Diana for 31 years. He cherished and lived for his wife and children.
There was never a more caring, loving and giving person than he was to his family. Nothing would bring a smile to his face more than to compliment one of his children or grandchildren. James was always prepared to help others and to make everyone in his life happy. He was a member of Hines Baptist Church, and was a coal miner. He retired from Pittston Coal Company after 32 years service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Darlene Sue Dix, and daughter, Vickie L. Davenport, one granddaughter, Christina L. Osborne, the mother of his children, Mildred Goss Dix, one sister, Mildred Groves, two brothers, Charles and Norman Dix, son-in-law, Steven A. Wills, a nephew, Mike and his father-in-law, Edward Holliday. His wife Diana, a registered nurse, was totally devoted to him and was the love of his life. They traveled everywhere together, and enjoyed each other so much. He loved his children and grandchildren very much, but especially his great-grandchildren. James & Diana’s home was always open to all his family and friends. It totally pleased him when someone would send him a picture or tell him when one of his babies done anything special. God gave him a love that wouldn’t end.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years: Diana G. Holliday Dix of Hines, WV, daughter: Patricia Martin (Dwayne) of Quinwood; five sons: Jimmy E. Dix, Jr. (Kim) of Orange, VA, David A. Dix (Tammie) of Rhoadesville, VA, Mark A. Dix (Angie) of Rainelle, WV, Travis Herndon (April) of Maxwelton, WV, Erick Herndon, beloved son & devoted caretaker; 14 grandchildren: Jamie Dix (Nan), Jason Dix (Valerie), Laurie D. Starcher (Bradley), Jessica, Monica, Robbie, and Joseph Dix, Ashley Davenport, Dakota, Cameron, and Kaden Dix, Abigail, Julia, and Lucas Herndon; eight great-grandchildren: Kayla, Ethan, Malia, MacKinzie,Ryleigh, Ryan, Clarissa, and Johnathan; Mother-in-law: Myretta Holliday of Hines, WV; Special nieces and nephews, Timmy & Debbie, Bobby, Robin, Kim and Stanton, Frankie Dale and Lizabeth, Donna and Tim, and Lisa; Sister-in-law: Tina Gravely (Mike) & son Sam; Brother-in-law: Gary Holliday (Nellie) and children Derik, Samantha, and Duncan; Son-in-law: Randy Holliday (Tina) and children Regina, Jimmy , Paula, and Randy (Stephanie).
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him, but especially by his wife, children and grandchildren. He is with God’s Angels ...

OAK HILL — Charles Oliver Dower, 70, of Oak Hill, died on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at CAMC - Memorial Division in Charleston, W.Va.
Born November 1, 1942, at Mount Hope, he was the son of the late William Clifford and Nettie May Bane Dower.
He was a retired carpenter for Vecellio and Grogan.
Survivors include four children, Rosalie Molly Jarvis and husband, Denver of Mount Hope, Jason Oliver Dower and wife, Mary Beth of Ansted, Loretta Mitchell and husband, Timothy and Clifford Dower and wife, Ranjani of Mount Hope; the mother of his children, Bessie May Miller Dower; four grandchildren, Harlan Wayne Elder III, Daniel David II, Clifford Dower II and Ronald Dower; and two brothers.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope with Sister Molly Jarvis officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Dower will be cremated following the service.

CHARMCO — Seth Andrew Martin, 20, of Charmco, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at his home.
Born June 7, 1993, in Charlottesville, Va., he was the son of the late Mary Elizabeth Newman Martin and Keith A. “Tony” Martin and wife Bonnie of Meadow Bridge.
Seth loved hunting, electrical work and helping his Paw Paw Buck do carpentry and was of the Holiness faith.
In addition to his father and step-mother, Seth is survived by five brothers Levi Martin of Huntington, Luke Martin and wife Kayla of Charmco with whom he lived, Christopher Watson, Tony Martin and Isaac Martin, all of Meadow Bridge; two sisters Betty Watson and Faith Martin, both of Meadow Bridge; grandparents Donald “Buck” Martin and wife Katie of Rainelle, Robert and Mary Newman of Hines, Anna Vestal of Arizona, and Cecil Ewing of Meadow Bridge; and one nephew Anthony Martin, Seth’s shadow, of Charmco.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 17, at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Inc. with Sebby Volpe officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville.

Born August 12, 2013, at Welch, she was the daughter of Christol Grimmett and Earl McKendree.

In addition to her parents, she was survived by two sisters, Brittany Grimmett and Kristen Foley; Grandparents, Carol and Carl Grimmett of Bud and Drema McKendree of Mullens; and a great-grandparent, Verleen Raye.

Charles H. Spencer
SEWICKLEY, Pa. — Charles H. Spencer, 84, of Sewickley, formerly of Rainelle, died Wednesday, August 7, 2013, after a long, brave struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
He was born March 28, 1929, in Rainelle, son of the late H. Kenneth and Ferris (Rose) Spencer.
He was the beloved husband of 60 years to Mary Virginia (Jackson) Spencer; loving father of Sally (Malcolm) Nimick of Sewickley and devoted Paw-Paw to Virginia Nimick of New York, NY, C. Spencer Nimick of Dallas, Texas, and Malcolm Charles Nimick of Sewickley.
He was predeceased by his siblings Margaret (George) Yeargo, Marion (Ray) Bowles, and Hugh Kenneth (“Babe”) Spencer Jr.
Charlie spent his career with CSX (C&O Railroad). His first job with the railroad was polishing engines with graphite in the car shop in Rainelle. He then served as a railroad apprentice electrician in Gary, Indiana, and finished his career in Baltimore, Md., as system-wide Manager of Compliance and Safety Administration. During his time at CSX, he participated in construction of the then-secret, cold war bunker built to house Congress, under The Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.
Charlie was a member of Masonic Lodge 166 in Clifton Forge, Va., and earned his 32nd degree Scottish Rite in Baltimore. He was an avid collector of clocks and an amateur horologist. He belonged to the Valley Baptist Church in Lutherville, Md., the Senior Men’s Club of Sewickley, and the Hon. Order of Kentucky Colonels.
A memorial service will be held at the Sewickley Presbyterian Church, Chapel of the Resurrection, on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at 11 a.m. Please use the Grant Street entrance. Private interment will take place in his beloved West Virginia.

Rosa Helen Webb, age 90, of Glen Daniel, passed away at the Bowers Hospice House on Thursday, August 15, 2013.
Born on July 27, 1923, at Naoma, she was the daughter of the late Freeland Linville and Amanda May Wiley Linville.
Mrs. Webb was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She and her husband, the late Rev. Donnie Webb served in many churches in the area while he served in the ministry. Mrs. Webb was a resident of Naoma for most of her life, but had made her home with her son, Delmer Webb and wife Mary of Glen Daniel for the past 14 months.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Donnie Webb, a daughter Shirley Minshew, by brother Carl Linville and by sisters Velvet Miller and Violet Cook.
Survivors include her son, Delmer Webb and his wife Mary of Glen Daniel, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Chris Linville and his wife Myrtle of Beckley and Scott Linville and his wife Orpha of Elyria, Ohio; two sisters, Ona Cook of Arnett, and Marie Sexton of Madison, Ala.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Larry Kinder officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.
Friends may visit with the family from noon until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
