Etta Ida Workman Clevenger

RAINELLE — Etta Ida Workman Clevenger, age 86, of Rainelle, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, August 10, 2013, at the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Ronceverte, after a long illness.

Etta was born on September 29, 1926, at Cordova, Greenbrier County. She was the oldest child and only daughter of the late Earl and Byrdie Workman. She married Calvin Harold Clevenger December 20, 1948, and they lived most of their lives in the Rainelle area.

After the passing of her husband on January 26, 2007, she made her home with her oldest son, Robert Lee Clevenger. She is also survived by three other devoted sons, Calvin Harold Clevenger, Jr., and his wife Ramona of Chester, Virginia; Darrell Wayne Clevenger and wife Polly of Dawson; Donald Ray Clevenger and wife Phyllis of Johnson City, Tennessee. Two devoted daughters, Ann Clevenger Thomas and husband J.L. of Rainelle and Ada Clevenger Williams and husband Richard of Beckley, also survive her. She felt blessed to have eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The grandchildren are Robert and Brad Clevenger; James Thomas, Beth Brittle and Jeanie Guiltmart; Bryan Allen Clevenger; and John Lewis and Michelle Moody. The great-grandchildren are Summer Clevenger; Stephanie Thomas; Nataniel, Antony, and Giana Guiltmart; Christian and Allison Clevenger; Kenneth and Megan Lewis; and Christopher Lewis and Kayla Lewis Martin. Raiden Lewis and Anthony Martin are the great-great-grandchildren.

Her three brothers, Elra Clark Workman, Carl Samuel Workman, and Thurmond Acie Workman, also survive her as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Etta, affectionately called Ettle by her family, was not only devoted to her immediate family but cared for many of her extended family with several of them living with her from time to time. She unselfishly took her mother into her home and lovingly cared for her for 15 years until her death at the age of 91.

She and her husband were faithful members of the First Baptist Church for many years serving in many capacities. She was loved by all who knew her and many felt privileged to call her friend. She will be fondly remembered and missed by all who knew her.

Her funeral will be Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home and conducted by Rev. Bob Scharnhorst. Friends and relatives may visit with the family at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at the Martin Cemetery at Crag.

Roger Dale Cox

HINTON — Roger Dale Cox, 49, of 111 Herman St., Hinton, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013.

John D. Daniels

AUBURNDALE, Fla. — John D. Daniels, 66, of Auburndale, FL, died Thursday, August 8, 2013, in Rittman, Ohio.

He was born August 20, 1946, in Hazy, WV, to Pat H. and Laura A. (Tolliver) Daniel and formerly lived in Wadsworth and Lodi. He graduated from Marsh Fork High School in 1964.

John was a machine and crane operator at the G.M. Plant in Parma for 31 years until retiring in 1998. He was a member of UAW Local 1005; Medina Masonic Lodge; American Legion in Winter Haven, FL, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and enjoyed golfing, football and baseball.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War serving from 1964 to 1967.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Daniels; children, William J. Daniels of Wadsworth, and his former wife, Kim Daniels of Wadsworth, Lisa G. (Charlie) Crouch of Rittman, and John D. (Tracy) Daniels, Jr., of Medina, and grandchildren, Brandon, Shelby, Morgan, Keegan and Megan Daniels, and Connor Crouch; brothers, Pat (Terry) Daniel of Taylorsville, NC, and Mickey (Elva) Daniel of Edwight, WV; a sister, Sheila (Steve) Cantley of Dry Creek, WV; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Armstrong Funeral Home, 734 Boone St., Whitesville, WV 25209, on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Minturn officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Beckley, WV.

Patricia R. Gore

HINTON — Patricia R. Gore, 69, of 135 Grass Court, Hinton, died at 7:50 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2013, at Lucy Bowers Hospice House in Beckley following a short illness.

Born July 4, 1944, in Hinton, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Corrine Bryson Smith.

Ms. Gore was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was a lifelong resident of the area.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank D. Gore. Also by a son, John Franklin Gore, and an infant brother, Charles Smith.

Survivors include a son, Mike S. Gore and wife Cynthia of Hinton. Two daughters, Stephanie R. Gore of Hinton and Jackie Lynn Gore of Raleigh, NC. One brother, Danny Smith and wife Roberta of True. Five grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Roy Carter officiating. Cremation will follow the funeral service.

Friends may call from 12 p.m. until time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Della Faye Gwinn

HINTON — Della Faye Gwinn, 99, of Hinton died at 7:05 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2013, at Serenity Place Care Home in Lerona after a long illness.

Born May 2, 1914, at Thayer, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Della Jane Ennis Berry.

Faye was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking. She and her late husband made their home for many years at Meadow Creek before moving to Hinton in their later years. She was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hinton as long as her health permitted. She was a former member of Court of the Sacred Heart and the Altar Society and was a member of the Women of St. Patrick. Faye was active in various church functions for many years, including visiting shut-ins and serving on the decorating committee. She also participated in Adult Religious Education for many years at the church. She was also a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the United Transportation Union.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Robert Gwinn. Also preceded by an adopted niece, Sue Hardy, a brother, Ralph Berry, and a sister, Vergie Berry.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Survivors include her caregivers, Gordy and wife Adina Hardy of Nimitz and their children, Logan, Dylan and Keira. Niece, Drema Farley and husband David of Meadow Bridge, nephew, John Gwinn of California, great-niece, Davida Farley of Meadow Bridge, great-nephew, Matthew Farley of Dublin, Ohio. Special friends, Tom and Patty Stacklin of Hinton, Karen Eagle of Hinton and numerous church family members who were dear to Faye.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hinton with Father Rey Landicho as celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow at Restwood Memorial Gardens in Hinton. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday evening at Pivont Funeral Home in Hinton where a Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

Men of St. Patrick Catholic Church will serve as pallbearers.

Elwood W. Lambert

KEYSER — Elwood W. Lambert, 72, of Keyser, passed away Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013.

He donated his body to the West Virginia University Human Gift Registry to further the education of future clinicians. His memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Wiley Ford Church of the Brethren with a reception from 3 to 5 p.m.

Larrie Mason Lester

INDIAN CREEK — Larrie Mason Lester, 73, of Indian Creek, WV, went home to be with the Lord on August 9, 2013.

He was born November 20, 1939, in Fanrock, WV, a son of the late Kenneth Pleasant and Edner Ruth Barrett Lester.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Lonnie Lincoln Lester.

Survivors include three brothers Latham E. Lester of Warrenton, VA, Leonard C. Lester of Indian Creek and Leslie Harold Lester of Front Royal, VA; a sister Lindia Ruth Lester of Indian Creek; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, in the New Hope Church, Indian Creek, WV, with Rev. Lewis Lester officiating. Larrie will be laid to rest in the Lester Family Cemetery, Indian Creek, WV. Friends may gather with the family after 6 p.m. on Monday, August 12, 2013, at the church. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Alex Perry McGuire

LEWISBURG — Alex Perry McGuire, 76, passed away Friday, Aug. 9, 2013.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, at the Longanacre Funeral Home Chapel, Fairlea, with the Rev. Youel Altizer officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenbrier Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Lewisburg, with Masonic rites. Friends and family may call 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, at the funeral home.

Madleen Miller

On Friday, August 9th, 2013, our most cherished, Madleen Miller of Chase Street, Beckley, went to see her Lord and Savior. Madleen passed away at the Bowers Hospice House. She was 69 years of age.

One of seven children, Madleen Estep was born on April 28th, 1944, at Joe’s Creek in Boone County. Her parents were the late Ivel and Kathleen Flora Estep. A sister, Alma White, has preceded her in death. Madleen was the dear sister of Freda Buzzard and her husband James, Maxine Miller and her husband, Edgar, Terry Estep and his wife, Wilma, Tommy Estep all of Orgas and Alice Hunter and her husband, Paul, of Seth. Several nieces and nephews survive as well.

Madleen spent her early life in Boone County; she attended Sherman High School. On June 29th, 1963, she married her beloved husband, Dennis Whitelaw Miller. To their union was born their only child, a son, Dennis Lee, on April 2, 1965. Lee, as he was affectionately known, brought great joy to their lives and was the sunshine of their home. Madleen had a great fondness for her husband’s family, the Millers. Dennis and Madleen have made their home in Beckley over the past thirty years. They worshiped at the Callaway Heights Baptist Church. Madleen, in her leisure time, enjoyed crafting. Tragically, Lee died on March 24th, 2011.

On Tuesday, August 13th, at 1 p.m. the life of Madleen will be remembered at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Pastors Bill Parker and Jeff Canterbury will be officiating. Madleen will be laid to rest in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, near her beloved Lee, and now… “Oh Glad Reunion.”

The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary and one hour prior to the services on Tuesday. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Michael Don Richmond

Michael Don Richmond, age 45, of Coal City, WV, passed away suddenly from an apparent heart attack on Saturday, August 10, 2013.

Born on May 29, 1968, in Beckley, he was the son of Rosemary Mann Richmond of Blue Jay, and the late John E. Richmond.

Michael was self-employed as a breeder of animals. He was also an amateur photographer and was an artist. He was a member of the Maxwell Hill Baptist Church, and also attended the Blue Jay United Methodist Church. Michael loved his family, friends, and animals, but not necessarily in that order. He was a friend to everyone. He loved his sons with his whole heart.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John Richmond Jr., and Carl David Richmond, and by a nephew Steven Smith.

Remaining are his sons, Dereck Michael Richmond and Dakota Austin Richmond, and their mother Joy Richmond of Midway, a brother Thomas Richmond of Raleigh, four sisters, Rose Etta Wheeler and her husband Roger of Beaver, Beverly Canterbury and her husband Pat of Daniels, Mary Sweeney and her husband William of Shady Spring, and Deborah Richmond and her husband James of Grandview.

He was the loving uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Paul Stadelman and Rev. David Rumburg officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. until service time on Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Rob Runion, Jack Lovell, Alex Walls, Tom Hornsby, Greg Keffer, and Robbie Runion. HINTON — Penny Vonique Romanello, 45, of Northfield, Ohio, and five-month resident of Hinton, died at 9:10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013.

Cremation services were provided by Pivont Funeral Home in Hinton. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Northfield Macedonia Cemetery in Northfield, Ohio.
