Etta Ida Workman Clevenger

RAINELLE — Etta Ida Workman Clevenger, age 86, of Rainelle, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, August 10, 2013, at the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Ronceverte, after a long illness.

Etta was born on September 29, 1926, at Cordova, Greenbrier County. She was the oldest child and only daughter of the late Earl and Byrdie Workman. She married Calvin Harold Clevenger December 20, 1948, and they lived most of their lives in the Rainelle area.

After the passing of her husband on January 26, 2007, she made her home with her oldest son, Robert Lee Clevenger. She is also survived by three other devoted sons, Calvin Harold Clevenger, Jr., and his wife Ramona of Chester, Virginia; Darrell Wayne Clevenger and wife Polly of Dawson; Donald Ray Clevenger and wife Phyllis of Johnson City, Tennessee. Two devoted daughters, Ann Clevenger Thomas and husband J.L. of Rainelle and Ada Clevenger Williams and husband Richard of Beckley, also survive her. She felt blessed to have eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The grandchildren are Robert and Brad Clevenger; James Thomas, Beth Brittle and Jeanie Guiltmart; Bryan Allen Clevenger; and John Lewis and Michelle Moody. The great-grandchildren are Summer Clevenger; Stephanie Thomas; Nataniel, Antony, and Giana Guiltmart; Christian and Allison Clevenger; Kenneth and Megan Lewis; and Christopher Lewis and Kayla Lewis Martin. Raiden Lewis and Anthony Martin are the great-great-grandchildren.

Her three brothers, Elra Clark Workman, Carl Samuel Workman, and Thurmond Acie Workman, also survive her as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Etta, affectionately called Ettle by her family, was not only devoted to her immediate family but cared for many of her extended family with several of them living with her from time to time. She unselfishly took her mother into her home and lovingly cared for her for 15 years until her death at the age of 91.

She and her husband were faithful members of the First Baptist Church for many years serving in many capacities. She was loved by all who knew her and many felt privileged to call her friend. She will be fondly remembered and missed by all who knew her.

Her funeral will be Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home and conducted by Rev. Bob Scharnhorst. Friends and relatives may visit with the family at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at the Martin Cemetery at Crag.

Arrangements by Wallace & Wallace of Rainelle.
