On Monday, Dec. 17th, 2012, our beloved, Rev. Juddy Conway Hurst of Fairdale, went to be his Lord Jesus Christ following a short illness. He was in his 84th year.
Born on April 6th, 1928, Rev. Hurst was the son of the late Connie Hurst and Hanna Farley Canterbury. His brothers, Bobby and Norman have preceded him in death.
Rev. Hurst was raised in Cove Creek. It was there he would meet the love of his life, Bertie Daniel. Bertie was his friend, confidant, biggest supporter and mother of children. They would be married for 29 years until her passing in May of 1977.
Rev. Hurst and Bertie would settle in Fairdale in 1963, where they would raise their three children.
Rev. Hurst was a retired UMWA coal miner, retiring from Westmoreland Coal Company. He had 37 years of service in the coal industry.
In 1959, Rev. Hurst was called to serve the Lord and went on to become a preacher. He started preaching the word of God at Cove Creek Church and from there served Horse Creek Church, Naoma Church, Stickney Church, Stevens Church, Coal Marsh Church and retired from Akers Church as assistant pastor.
Those left to cherish his memories are his sons, Jerry Hurst and his wife, Pamela of Richmond, Ky., Randy Hurst and his wife, Shelia of Fairdale and Kathy Daniel and her husband, Steve of Saxon; he was the dear grandfather of Todd, Kimberly, Tammie, Amy and Matthew; the proud great grandfather of Madison, Bobby Allen and Mason.
Rev. Juddy Hurst lived a blessed life for the Lord and tried to be an example for everyone. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. We, his family are so appreciative our father’s neighbors who always kept a watchful eye for him.
