PRINCETON — Paul Edward Blankenship, 69, of Princeton, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2014.

David Randall Carter, 61, of Sophia, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2014.

Mary Ernestine  Harvey Duncan

Mary Ernestine Harvey Duncan, age 63, of Sophia, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2014, at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

Born on November 3, 1950, in Harper Heights, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William Ernest Harvey and Mary Mae Hampton Harvey.

Mrs. Duncan was a former secretary for the WV State Police, and Mountaineer Gas Company.

She was a member of the Sophia United Methodist Church, where she played the piano.

Mrs. Duncan enjoyed photography and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, James R. Duncan; a son, James Andrew Duncan of Sophia; and numerous cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted to Celebrate the Life Of Mary Ernestine Duncan on Monday, January 13, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with Rev. Henry Clarence Lilly and Bishop Jesse Farley officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.

Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be family members and friends.

Lorah L. ‘Bud’ Fox

Lorah L. “Bud” Fox, age 74, of Gatewood Road, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

Born September 24, 1939, in Oak Hill, he was the son of the late Forrest W. and Irene Blake Fox.

Bud was a 1957 graduate of Collins High School and was an avid golfer. From an early age he had a great love of cars and became the owner/operator of Bud Fox Body Shop and Towing, LLC. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1961-1965 as a crew chief on a C-130.

Bud was preceded in death by sisters, Forrest Ann Balding, Carolyn L. Rogers Wagner, Virginia Mae Fox, Nancy Elmore, Jeanette Sue Fox, and by a brother, Burke Walton Fox.

Surviving are his wife, Chloe Ann Parrish Fox, his son Mike Fox and wife Kristie of Oak Hill, his daughter, Allyson Fox Wyatt and her husband Russell of Oak Hill, his four grandchildren, Kayla Wyatt, Aubrey Fox, Christan Wyatt and Delanie Fox. Also surviving is a brother, Thomas William Fox and wife Carol J. of Washington, NC.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at the Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Rev. Roy Crist officiating. Entombment will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Oak Hill.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2014.

John Joe Srednicki, James Suggs, Barry Massey, LeRoy Adkins, Tom Rhodes and Mike Fridley will serve as pallbearers.

Oliver Anderson Jarrell, 65, of Clear Creek, passed away Dec. 30, 2013.

Kathleen Bird Ketz

Mrs. Kathleen Bird Ketz, 84, died in Beckley January 10, 2014, after a short illness. Mrs. Ketz’s husband John and a daughter Louise preceded her in death.

Kathleen grew up in South Charleston and graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1948. She was a member of the St. Nicholas Orthodox Church.

Her surviving children are John of State College, Pennsylvania, Karen of Beckley, West Virginia, Sam of Columbus, Ohio, Joe of Beckley, West Virginia, David of Lexington, Kentucky, and Janet Richardson of Charleston, West Virginia.

A wake will be held on Sunday, January 12, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church with V. Rev. Fr. Samuel Haddad presiding. Burial service will be on Monday, Jan. 13, at 10:45 at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church with interment to follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV.

Pallbearers will be Sam Ketz, Joe Ketz, David Ketz, Brian Slone, Brent Slone, Andy Slone, John Ketz, and Adam Richardson. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Richardson, Brian Chorley, and Nick Bradford.

In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to the Saint Nicholas Orthodox Church, 211 South Heber Street, Beckley, WV, in memory of Mrs. Ketz.

Naomi Donell Lively

Naomi Donell Lively, 77, of Beckley, WV, died on Thursday, January 9, 2014, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, WV.

Born June 11, 1936, at Willis Branch, WV, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Flossie Mae Kidd Donell.

Naomi attended the Church of God. She was a homemaker.

A daughter-in-law, Lou Bailey, brothers Bob Donell, Joe Donell, Bill Donell and James Donell and sisters, Maxine Leinback, Linda Foster and Jessie Deal, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Marty Bailey of Daniels, Carla Fink of Beckley and Lorrie Legursky and husband, Wayne, of Grandview; one sister, Susan Lafferty of Stanaford; two brothers, Douglas Donell of Pax and Roy Donell of Lester; eight grandchildren, Christopher Lively, Brittany Haralston, Joshua Hinkle, Timothy Bailey, Rebecca Bailey, Jonathan Legursky, Doug Legursky and Lisa Potter; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be on Monday, January 13, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope. Burial will be at Pax Community Cemetery, Pax. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.

Jamie Diann Lucas

RAVENCLIFF — Jamie Diann Lucas, 36, of Ravencliff entered into a new life on Friday, January 10, 2014.

Born August 6, 1977, in Beckley, she was the daughter of Susan Sizemore Hash of Nebo, NC, and James Lucas of Glen Fork.

Jamie was a 1997 graduate of Pineville High School and attended Cosmetology at the Wyoming County Vo Tech.

She was preceded in death by her son, Houston Lucas.

Jamie is survived by her mother, Susan Hash and her husband, Wondal, of Nebo, NC; Her father, James Lucas and his wife, Eva, of Glen Fork; Companion, Joey Lafferty of Ravencliff; A brother, Timothy Ray Lucas of Ravencliff; A sister, Jennifer Francis of Angleton, TX; 2 stepsisters, Deborah Simms of Pineville and Candice Reed of Charleston; 2 stepbrothers, Robert Lafferty of Alpoca and Steven Lafferty of Herndon; Special nephew, Austin Francis, and niece, Clarice Francis, both of TX; Nephew, Corey Lucas, and niece, Savannah Lucas, both of Glen Fork.

A celebration of Jamie’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 13, 2014, in the Evans Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Green and Rev. Jonathan Cresong officiating.

Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Ravencliff.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m.  until the time of the service.

David Denver Morgan Sr.

SIMON — David Denver Morgan Sr., 78, of Simon, passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, with Pastor Jay Morgan and Johnny McCarty officiating. David will be laid to rest in the Morgan Family Cemetery, Sunhill. Military rites will be conducted. Friends may gather with the family from noon until service time at the funeral home.

Vada Persinger

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. — Vada Persinger, 85, of Kernersville, NC, formerly of Daniels and Crab Orchard, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 9, 2014, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley following a short illness.

Born in Wyoming County, in the town of Glen Morrison, WV, on January 28, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Shirley Preston Duncan and Lola Smith Duncan and the stepdaughter of the late Paulene Duncan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, James, of 53 years. She was also preceded in death by two children, Shirley and Doug; five siblings, Betty Duncan, Ilene Duncan, Billy Duncan, Freddie Duncan, and Lena Duncan.

Those left to cherish her memory include her two sons, Dennis Persinger and wife, Cathy, of Daniels and Michael Persinger and wife, Sara, of Fayetteville; two daughters, Patricia Rice and husband, Charles, of Kernersville, NC, and Deborah Mason and husband, Leroy, of Partlow, VA. Also left to cherish her memory includes two siblings, Nancy Miles and Jimmy Duncan; nine grandchildren, Julie Tucker, Cheri Horton, Charlie Rice, T.J. Worley, Beth Lewis, Angie Knoblet, Becky Bartlett, Megan Harper, and Melissa Mills; one stepgrandchild, Charlotte Mason; 20 great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. Vada had many additional close family members and friends that she cherished dearly, including her special friend, Bill Agee, and her faithful pet, Major.

Vada had a personal relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was an example of a woman after God’s own heart to all that knew her. Vada was a member of the Crab Orchard Church of the Brethren for numerous years where she enjoyed singing in the choir, helping with Bible school, and being involved with the Woman’s Circle. Throughout her life, she was a cook at Crab Orchard Elementary, worked in the dietary department of Appalachian Regional Hospital, and last worked as a Pharmacy Tech at Southern West Virginia Clinic.

Vada was passionate about her flower gardens, where she spent many hours planting, caring for, and simply enjoying God’s colorful creation. A few of her most cherished memories include lounging on the Greenbrier River with her husband and family, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, having family get-togethers, visiting many close friends, and decorating.

Funeral Services will be held 12 noon Monday, January 13, 2014, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Rev. Glen Sage officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley.

T.J. Worley, Charlie Rice, Keith Tucker, Randy Horton, Ben Knoblet, Derek Bartlett, Jess Harper, and Isaac Mills will serve as pallbearers. Bill Agee will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Friends may gather with the family from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home and one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday.

LEWISBURG — Edith “Sybil” Boyce Reynolds, 82, of Lewisburg passed away Friday, Jan. 10, 2014.

Linda D. Stamper

MULLENS — Linda Darlene England Stamper, 62, of Mullens, took flight into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. She has been welcomed in her Heavenly home by her parents, Matthew Abner and Norma Louise Lafferty England; her brother, Cecil Dale England; and her nephew Daryl Keith England.

Those left to cherish her memory and the greatest joys of her life: Sons: C. Scott Stamper (Louisville, KY) and Timothy Ryan Stamper (Mt. Joy, PA); grandchildren, Ava Clair and Marshall Drew Stamper (love you to the moon and back); companion and close friend, David Burks, and special grandnephew, Ashton Zhookoff-Lutz. Surviving siblings, Bob (Vivian) England, Drema (Robert) Shireman, Larry (Linda) England, Karen Reed, Zelda (Frank) Peters, Susan (David) Lord, Beverly (Tim) Grose, Jeff England; stepsister, Larnie Mae (Jake) Reyes; and an adopted brother, Lee (Winnie) Radford, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Linda was a devoted Christian who inspired many others through messages of Hope and Healing. Doctors, case managers, and personnel at the Cancer Treatment Center of Phoenix, Arizona, were in awe by her continued cheerful spirit and optimistic attitude. She continued to help those that she came in contact with who were also suffering. Her email messages to family and friends exalted God and was a testament of her faith. “I know God is telling me to trust him and not be afraid. He will lead me to the rock that is higher than I and my circumstances, to take refuge in the shelter of his wings, where I can be absolutely secure. Trust in me and do not be afraid.”

A 1969 graduate of Mullens High School and a Morehead State University alumni, Linda was most recently employed with West Virginia University Extension Service as an Administrative Assistant in the Wyoming County Office. For approximately 20+ years prior to moving to West Virginia, she was employed as a statistical analyst for Tyco Electronics, Harrisburg, PA. Linda was a phenomenal cook, loved gardening, sewing, and photography. She attended Reichs Evangelican Congregational Church in Marietta, PA, where she served as past president of the Friendly Circle, taught Sunday School, served with the Awana team and Outreach Committee.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 13, 2014, at 12 noon at Pierpoint Freewill Baptist Church, Pierpoint, W.Va., with Rev. Daniel Legg officiating. The family will receive visitors at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the services. Interment will follow at the family cemetery on York Mountain.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

MOUNT LOOKOUT — Thomas W. Warburton, 70, of Mount Lookout, died Jan. 10, 2014.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at Mountain State Baptist Church at 807 W. Webster Road in Summersville with the Rev. Mark D. Secrist officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist cemetery in Mount Lookout, with military graveside rites at the cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the children’s bus ministry at Mountain State Baptist Church.
