Clemenceau Allen

Mr. Clemenceau Allen, 86, of Allen Junction, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013.

Sibyl Louise Ball

Sibyl L. Ball, 94, of 119 Tifton Court, Beckley, died Wednesday, Dec. 25th, 2013, after a short illness.

She was born on May 30th, 1919, the daughter of the late Asa R. and Ethel Tomlinson Linton of Union. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Fred, on January 17, 2004. She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

She was a 1936 graduate of Union High School. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Beckley and retired from Pinecrest Hospital in Beckley after serving many years as an LPN.

Surviving are two sisters, Grace Wickline of Lewisburg and Minnie Bowyer of Pineville; one niece, Nancy Wickline Lewis and her husband, Don, of Hollywood, MD; three nephews, Gary Bowyer and his wife, Penny, of Pineville, Grady Bowyer and his wife, Sharon, of St. Albans and David Bowyer and his wife, Belinda, of Ripley.

Services will be held at the Grace Baptist Church, Union Hall Road, on Monday, Dec. 30th, at 11 a.m., conducted by Rev. Roger Harding and Rev. Bobby Legg. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Gary, Grady, and David Bowyer, Don Lewis, Paul Pishner and Rick Fisher.

Leaborn A. “Pete” Blake, 79, of Old Eccles Road, Beckley, passed away Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013.

Norma Fann

AMIGO — Norma Fann, 80, of Amigo went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 22, 2013. Born September 18, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Orpha Prince Blankenship, and stepdaughter of Louise Cantalina Blankenship.

Norma enjoyed taking care of friends and family, going on vacation in Tennessee and Christmas time with her family. She was a graduate of Mullens High School and attended the Amigo Missionary Baptist Church. Norma was also a member of the Mullens Chapter of The Order of the Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents, Norma is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Robert Fann, Sr.; sisters, Irene McKinney and husband Glen, Hester Lefler and husband Laverne, Hazel Roop and husband, Pete; brothers, David Blankenship and Gaylord Blankenship.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Deborah Fann Young and husband, Detzel “Dee” Young, of Sophia, WV; son, Robert Fann, Jr., and companion, Patricia Cox, of Rhodell, WV; grandson, Jordan Andrew Young of Glenville, WV; brothers, Gene “Peewee” Blankenship and wife Joyce of MI, Ancel Paul Blankenship and wife Lee of MI, Dexter “Deck” Blankenship of Mullens, WV; sister, Barbara Lester of Mullens; sister-in-law, Libby Blankenship; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 30, 2013, at Williams Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Sophia, with Rev. Gilbert “Junior” Dotson and Pastor Curtis England officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

Jesse Evestes Lambert

HIGH POINT, N.C. — Jesse Evestes Lambert, age 68, of High Point, NC, formerly of Shady Spring, WV, passed away at his home on Sunday, December 22, 2013, following an apparent heart attack.

Born on June 30, 1945, at Mount View, WV, he was the son of the late Chalmers Lambert and Renee Thompson Lambert.

He was a self-employed owner and operator of Finished Carpentry in High Point, NC, and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Lambert had made his home in High Point for nearly 30 years. He was a former employee of Chrysler Motors in Michigan.

He was preceded in death by a son Johnny Hornsby, and by a daughter Julie Ann Lambert.

Survivors include his children, Jesse James Lambert of Taylor, Michigan, Joyce Call and her husband Richard of Howell, Michigan, Deborah Michelle Adams of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Bridget Lambert of Toledo, Washington, Jesse Evestes Lambert Jr. of Toledo, Washington, Dereck Lambert of High Point, NC, Dakota Lambert of Beaver, WV.

Stepson William Lepley of Beaver, Siblings, Syble Coleman and her husband Gerald of Shady Spring, Donna Bragg and her husband Ruben of Shady Spring, Phyllis Meador and her husband Herb of Catlettsburg, Kentucky, Cathie Whittemore of Shady Spring, Frankie Lambert of Shady Spring, Connie Meador and her husband Rick of Richmond, Virginia, Joey Lambert and his wife Monica of Cool Ridge. His companion Melinda Railey of High Point, NC. A special niece and business partner Tina Key of Daniels, WV.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Monday, December 30, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Preston Adkins officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. View Cemetery at Mt. View, WV. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Pallbearers will be J.R. Earl Joseph Lynch Jr.

BRADLEY, Ill. — Earl Joseph Lynch Jr., 82, of Bradley, Ill., formerly of Momence, Ill., and Beckley, passed away Friday, Dec. 27, 2013.

A funeral procession will leave the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais, Ill., at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.

Kenneth Valentine Martin

JUPITER, Fla. — Kenneth Valentine Martin, age 93, of Jupiter, FL, and past resident of Fort Lauderdale and White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., passed away on the holiest of days, December 25, 2013. Kenny, as he was referred to by family and friends, was born in Carthage, South Dakota, on September 13, 1920. His mother and father, Gladys and Frank Martin, lived in Huron, SD, and were married on Christmas Day, 1915 … and brought their only child, Kenny, home to them and his wife the same date 98 years later… He served in the Army band and was stationed in Detroit, Michigan, from November 1942 until February 1946. He was married to his wife for 62 years, and is preceded in death by Beatrice Estelle Deason, who passed away on January 25, 2008. They met in the Army as she was a Sergeant in the W.A.C. and they met at the Officers Club where he entertained for enlisted officers. After the War and being honorably discharged, he worked with various big bands traveling on the road for ten plus years. He loved the friendship and good times on the road with Jack Teagarden, Jimmy Dorsey and Guy Lombardo Royal Canadians where he was a regular vocalist on the Hit Parade. He was featured on Times Square billboards as the lead vocalist for these great orchestras and he also played trombone. He took his family in 1956 to the world famous Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, where he performed nightly with the group The Populaires. He played for several Presidents and other dignitaries and industry titans and guests each night at the famous “Old White Club” at The Greenbrier. He was good friends of Sam Snead and many other well-known legends like Louis Armstrong. He retired after 30 years of performing. This well-recognized entertainment group The Populaires performed seasonally at The Greenbrier in the summer and spent the winter months playing such great venues from Pier 66 “Panorama” Room from 1959 to 1972, The Breakers, The Boca Raton Resort & Club and various other places in Las Vegas and Hawaii. His legendary ballad voice created over 8 recorded albums and many songs with his big bands including the song “Tangerine” he made famous. After retirement, he played with the Boca Pops orchestra and also Paul Cohen Big Band in Plantation, FL. He leaves behind an era of legendary musicians dedicated to the “real music” that everyone could appreciate and enjoy of the swing era. He is survived by his four children, son, Ken Frank Martin and wife Gloria, daughter, Cindy Faye Heisler and husband, Steve Heisler, son Gary Scott Martin and wife, Oris, son, Craig Douglas Martin and wife, Fran; and between the four children over 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Besides his love for his family and friends was for golf, all sports, traveling and cars. He was an avid car enthusiast especially classic antiques.

Cecil Ray Murdock

Cecil Ray Murdock, age 87, of White Oak, West Virginia, passed away at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley on Tuesday, December 24, 2013.

Born on August 14, 1926, in Middleton, WV, he was the son of the late Milton Murdock and Nannie Winston Murdock.

Mr. Murdock was a retired coal miner with 43 years of service. He was a member of the UMWA and was a U.S. Navy Veteran during WWII.

Mr. Murdock was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Dempsey Greer, Dolphus Greer, Johnny Greer, and by a sister Helen McDaniel.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years in which he passed away on their anniversary, Lois Ruby Thompson Murdock.

A son Phillip Murdock and his wife Jo Ellen of White Oak, WV, five daughters, Anna F. Murdock, Regina Murdock, and Mary Yvonne Murdock all of White Oak, Elizabeth “Libby” Blair and her husband Buster “Dick” of Jemison, Alabama, and Michelle Ratcliff and her husband Shawn of White Oak.

Five grandsons, Joseph Blair, Joshua Blair, Stephen Amon, Zachary Amon, Colten Helmandollar, and a granddaughter Heather Ratcliff.

Six great-grandchildren, Jade and Madison Amon, Joseph “Lil Man” Blair, Vicki Blair, and Cayden Helmandollar, and Elijah “Eli” Amon.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Sunday, December 29, 2013, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Benny Harper officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Frank Pendry

MATHENY — Frank Pendry, 84, of Matheny went home surrounded by his loving wife and family on December 27, 2013.

Born May 7, 1929, at Keyrock, he was the son of the late William Pendry and Dora Green Pendry.

Mr. Pendry was an avid gardener and a retired coal miner. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Survivors include his wife, helpmate, and best friend of 65 years, Minnie Jane Pendry of Matheny.

4 daughters, Iris Workman and her husband Buzz of Keyrock, Glenda Pizzino and her husband Danny of Glen Fork, Letha Gilstrap and her husband, Roger, of Durham, NC, Vanessa Pauley of Pineville.

2 sons, Tom Pendry and his wife Bonnie of Jesse and Stan Pendry of Welch.

17 Grandchildren, 24 Great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Frank’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2013, in the Evans Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ernest Francis and Rev. Sheri Kernik officiating.

Burial will follow at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

KINCAID — Sarah Delores Carper Peters, 80, of Kincaid, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 25, 2013, in Florence, Mississippi.

Mrs. Peters took care of her family and was a very devoted member of the Page Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school, vacation Bible school and took on many other active roles for the church.

Mrs. Peters was preceded in death by her son, Vernon Peters II, and her siblings.

She is survived by her husband, Vernon Peters of Kincaid, WV; daughter, Vicki (Lowell) Poe of Florence, MS; grandchildren, Wayne Poe, Kevin (Terra) Poe all of Florence, MS, and Vernon Peters III, Jennifer (Marshall) Tincher all of Kincaid, WV; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pauline ‘Polly’ Elizabeth Honaker Taylor

UNION — Pauline “Polly” Elizabeth Honaker Taylor, 93, of Union, WV, passed away Friday morning, December 27, 2013, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital at Roanoke, Va., following a short illness.

Born at Union, WV, April 21, 1920, she was the last surviving child of seven born to Ellis Patton and Sarah Catherine “Kate” Bare Honaker of Alderson.

Polly was an employee of the Monroe County Board of Education for 19 years as a cook and special education teacher’s aide at Union Elementary School. She was the first president and member of the Indian Creek Community Club for many years. She also was a member of the St. John’s United Methodist Church and a 1940 graduate of Alderson High School.

Polly was married to her husband, Fred Lewis Taylor, I, for 71 years and they lovingly took care of each other and their four children: Nancy Paulette (Robert) Crews of Rock Camp, Beverly Ann (James) Chadwell of Bedford, Va., Fred Lewis (Doris Ann) Taylor, II, of Sinks Grove and Drema Lee Taylor Gautier of Pearisburg, Va.; 7 grandchildren, Robert Don (Eva) Crews, Shannon Taylor Chadwell, Abbey Taylor (Kevin) Blankinship, Chad Lewis (Betsy) Taylor, Casey Lane (Jason) Napier, Jared Wesley Gautier and Tyler Pierson Gautier; 4 great-grandchildren, Emily Elizabeth Crews, Grayson Lewis Taylor, Gabrielle Lynne Taylor and Lilly SarahBeth Napier; a sister-in-law, Betty Sue Taylor Durham of Grafton, Va.; a brother-in-law, Frank Eugene (Bonnie) Taylor of Waldorf, MD; and nieces and nephews.

BOYER — Stanley Vandevander, 84, of Boyer, passed away Friday, Dec. 17, 2013.

Robert ‘Pee Wee’ Warner

PINEVILLE — Robert “Pee Wee” Warner, 54, of Pineville passed away Sunday, December 22, 2013, at Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.

Born December 5, 1959, at Pineville, he was the son of Pauline Forte of Cleveland, OH, and the late Josh Warner.

Pee Wee was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed football, basketball, baseball and softball. He was a 1978 graduate of Pineville High School.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his parents, James H. and Lottie Mae Warner.

A celebration of Pee Wee’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 30, 2013, at the Pineville Church of God with Silas Mullins, Jr., and the Rev. Norman Gray.

The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m. on Monday, December 30, 2013.

LILLYDALE — Michael Dale Wells, 53, of Lillydale, WV, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, December 24, 2013, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV. He was born October 6, 1960, in Man, WV, a son of Norma Jean Keeney Wells of Lynco and the late Rev. Charles Winford Wells. Michael was a disabled coal miner and truck driver. His hobbies included playing the guitar, riding his Harley and fishing. He loved spending time with his family and friends and especially with his granddaughter Madison. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at McDonald’s in Oceana. He will be missed by all who loved him. In addition to his father he is preceded in death by a brother Kim Dewayne Wells; his poppaw who raised him Bill Keeney, Sr.; a special uncle Bill “Shaw” Keeney, Jr.; a special aunt Betty Ann Toler; a nephew Kelly Wells.
