Corbet ‘Vern’ Justus Sr.
BRENTON — Corbet Vernor “Vern” Justus Sr., 75, of Brenton, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at his residence following a long illness.
Born May 7, 1938, at Hurley, Va., he was the son of the late Carl Justus and Lettie Blankenship Justus.
Mr. Justus was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and being with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Romelee Short Justus, and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his three sons, Corbet Justus Jr. and his wife Tammy of Pineville, Darrin Justus and his wife, Cathy, of Brenton, Danny Justus of Brenton; two daughters, Debbie Fortner and her husband, Donald, of Brenton, Sheila Byrd and her husband, Rodney, of Pineville; a brother, Frank Justus of Kopperston; five sisters, Imogene Short of Brenton, Nancy Hawks of Brenton, Drema Justus of Beckley, Inez Smith of Simon, Gertrude Hurley of Brenton; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Corbet’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2013, in the Calfee Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Norman Gray officiating.
The family will receive friends from noon until time of the service. Burial will follow at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

HICO — Cecil Clarence Labus Jr., 62, of Hico, passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013.
There will not be any viewing or funeral. He was cremated.

SUMMERSVILLE — Margaret Elizabeth Lanham, 87, of Summersville, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, in the White Funeral Home at Summersville with Pastor Dennis Cherry officiating. Interment will follow in the Walker Memorial Park at Summersville. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral services Saturday at the funeral home.
