CRAIGSVILLE — Ora Lee Akers, 83, of Craigsville, passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood, with Pastor Jim Meadows officiating. Burial will follow in West Virginia Memorial Gardens, Calvin. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the funeral home.

Billy Gerald Berkhouse

FAYETTEVILLE — Billy Gerald Berkhouse, 83, of Fayetteville, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Hattie Blevins, 84, of Coal City, passed away Monday, Dec. 10, 2012.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at the Coal City Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Thompson Cemetery in Coal City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Norma G. Frazier

Norma G. Frazier, 95, of Crab Orchard, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2012, in a Beckley hospital.

Born September 16, 1917, at True, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Green W. and Esther Meador.

Norma attended the Glen View Independent Baptist Church. She was a former member of the Crab Orchard Women’s Club. She loved flowers, gardening and yard sales.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Frazier, son Michael Frazier and a grandson, Steven Hutchison.

Survivors include her son Charles Hutchison and wife Michelle of Baytown, Texas; daughter, Susan Pack and husband Michael of MacArthur, W.Va.; grandchildren, Dianne Hastings of Pasadena, Texas, and Jeff Hutchison of Katy, Texas; great-grandchildren, Kelli Karg and husband Steven, Kasey Assad and husband Ameer; and a great-great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Assad.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, December 13, 2012, in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Duane Pease officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Following Norma’s wishes the family asks that food or flowers not be sent, but ask that memorial contributions be made to the Glen View Independent Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1101, Crab Orchard, WV 25827.

OAK HILL — Joe Lee Howell Sr., 69, of Oak Hill, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012.

Ronald Donald ‘Ronnie’ Lafferty

GLEN FORK — Ronald Donald “Ronnie” Lafferty, 62, of Glen Fork, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday,  December 8, 2012, in Gilmer County.

He was born January 25, 1950, in Beckley, a son of Gladys Elizabeth Vaught Lafferty and the late Donald Anthony Lafferty.

He was a member of the Bellemeade Missionary Baptist Church and the UMWA.

In addition to his father a son Ronnie Jr. and a daughter Angela Marie also preceded him in death along with fathers-in-law Hiram Acord and Jack Irick.

Survivors include his loving wife Carol Acord Lafferty; mother Gladys Lafferty of Beckley; stepmother Margaret Lafferty of Ravencliff; mothers-in-law Daphine Acord and Vella Irick; a daughter Angie (Chuckie) Simon of Myrtle Beach; three sons Chris (Kim) Brooks, Allen (Angie) Brooks and Steven Brooks, all of Glen Fork; siblings Joanna (Buddy) Hash, Danny (Polly) Lafferty, Donnie (Rosetta) Lafferty, Geneva (Randy) Worley, Misty (Shawn) Blankenship and Timmy Bennett; nine grandchildren; special grandson who lived with them Josh Lafferty; a great-granddaughter; special friends Truman Cook, Lucy Lilly, Kermit Moore and Crystal Bishop; and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2012, in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, with Pastor Nathan Vance and Bro. Christopher Brooks officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Glen Fork Community Cemetery.

Friends may gather with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 11, 2012.

Evelyn Irene Osborne

Evelyn Irene Osborne, 82, of Shady Spring, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2012, at her home following a long illness.

Born January 14, 1930, in Pike County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Duretha Sharp Williamson.

Evelyn was a homemaker and a member of the Glen Morgan Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Lacy H. Osborne; one brother Junior Williamson and two sisters Linda Williamson and Louise Atkins.

Survivors include two sons Tommy Osborne and wife Patricia and Gary Osborne and wife Wanda, all of Shady Spring; three daughters Shella Treadway and husband Dennis of Shady Spring, Peggy Small and husband Larry of Ronceverte and Judy Eggleston of Hendersonville, N.C.; two sisters Mildred Smith of Williamson and Elizabeth Fitch of Pembrook, S.C.; 11 grandchildren Tommy Osborne, Jr. (Misty), Michael Osborne (Karlee), Jeff Osborne (Tracy), Nancy Jessup (Brad), Frankie Treadway (Martha), Mark Treadway (Misti), Lora Ratcliff, Robby Adkins (Jeni), Rhonda Hodge (Aaron), Kara Brooks (Jason) and Bradley Eggleston; 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 12, at Smathers Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ernie Junior Moye officiating. Burial will follow in the Sewell Valley Baptist Church Cemetery at Rainelle.

Freddie Ross Persinger Jr.

Freddie Ross Persinger Jr., 47, of Beckley, passed away at 4:40 a.m. on Sunday, December 9, 2012, at Raleigh General Hospital.

Born March 14, 1965, in Beckley, he was the son of Christine Marie and the late Sam Henry Houck and Sue and the late Freddie Ross Persinger Sr.

In addition to his father, Freddie Ross Persinger Sr., and his stepfather, Sam Henry Houck, Freddie was preceded in death by two brothers, Jeffrey Dean Houck and Sammy Dale Houck, and a sister, Judith Kay Keaton.

Those left to cherish his precious memory are his loving mother, Christine Marie Houck and her companion, Mike Adkins, of Prosperity; stepmother, Sue Persinger of Crab Orchard; the love of his life, his loving wife, Tina Gregory Persinger of Beckley; his three sons, who were his pride and joy: Sam Persinger and his wife, Crystal; Jeffrey Persinger and his wife, Kim; and Christopher Persinger, all of Beckley; his two precious grandsons, “Little Man” and “Red”; and a grandbaby due to arrive in June.

He also leaves behind four sisters: Cathy Redden and her husband, Rodney, of Piney View; Rhonda Newton and her companion, Earl Kinder, of Beckley; Terri Dawson of Washington; Tara Harris and her husband, Steve, of Georgia; one brother, Jason Persinger and his wife, Melissa, of Michigan; mother-in-law, Nellie Gregory of Beckley; father-in-law, Tom Gregory of Roanoke, Va.; sisters-in-law, Sherri Adkins and Michelle Morgan, both of Beckley; special friend, Fredrick Hamrick of Beckley; special nieces, Cindy Houck-Toma, and her son, Kholton, of Oak Hill; Brittany Adkins, Lindsey, Makensie and Megan Morgan, all of Beckley; a special nephew, Brent Adkins of Beckley; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and extended relatives all of whom loved him dearly and will miss him greatly.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 12, 2012, from 6 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 13, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Rose & Quesenberry Funeral Home with uncles Pastor Ron Miller and Richard Young officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Pallbearers will be his sons, Sam, Jeff and Chris Persinger, and his friends, Fredrick Hamrick, Earl Kinder and Sean Meredith.

Patricia “Pat” Ann Ryan, 62, of Posey Saxon Road, Fairdale, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012.

Clara ‘Jeanette’ Spain

FREDERICK, Md. — Clara “Jeanette” Spain, 82, of Frederick, formerly of Piney View, passed away Friday, December 7, 2012.

Born June 14, 1930, in Cunard, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin, and Beulah Alma Adkins Campbell.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Morris “Sam” Spain, her grandson Robert Wilder, a son-in-law Richard Wilder.

Those left to cherish her memory include her two daughters Brenda Sines and husband Dennis of Boonsboro, Md., Linda Wilder and her husband Mark Nelson of Gardner, Mass.; four grandchildren, Richard Wilder, Tracy Lewis, Robin Sines, and William Wilder, and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home, with the Rev. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memory Gardens, Oak Hill.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
