Fred Basham

Fred Basham, 89, of Beckley, passed away Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012.

Icie Bolen

Icie Bolen, 88, of 4003 Odd Road in Josephine, WV, died Saturday, November 17, 2012, at Raleigh General Hospital with her family by her side.

Born in Basin, WV, October 13, 1924, she was the daughter of the late A.B. and Marcia Reed Graham. She was a member of Grassy Banks Community Church in Josephine and lived her life as a devoted Christian and homemaker who loved and cared for her family. In addition to her parents her husband, Bruce Bolen; one son, Jack Bolen; and two brothers, Berny Graham and Ray Graham, preceded her in death. Survivors include three sons, Bruce Bolen, Jr., and his wife Dawn of Odd, Danny Bolen and his wife Renee of Beaver and Billy Bolen and his wife Barbara of Warrenton, VA; five daughters, Dessie McClung and her husband Claude of Peterstown, Shirley Cole and her husband Dale of Odd, Virginia Halsey and her husband Charles of Josephine, Brenda Todd of Chico, CA, and Linda Bolen and her husband Gary of Josephine; 21 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and one brother, Billy Graham and his wife Elsie of Indiana.

In keeping with her wishes Icie has been cremated and memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Grassy Bank Community Church, Josephine, WV 25857. LEWISBURG — Joseph Allen “Joe” Burns, 68, of Lewisburg died Nov. 15, 2012.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at the First Baptist Church in Fairlea. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg.

Timothy Russell Clifton

SANDLICK — It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Timothy Russell Clifton, of Sandlick, WV.

He entered his eternal resting place on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, in Colorado during a visit to his sisters. He was 40 years old.

He is the son of the late Russell Clifton of Beckley, WV, and the late Betty Burrell of Sandlick in Harper, WV.

He was born Nov. 2, 1972, in Beckley, WV.

Preceded in death by his sister Cynthia Burrell, his great-niece Angel Williams, maternal grandparents, George and Mary Daniel, and his paternal grandparents.

He is survived by 4 children, his daughters Erica Farr of Iowa Park, Texas, Gracie Clifton of Sandlick, WV, a stepdaughter Lindsey Reed of MacArthur, WV, his sons Cody and Dalton Clifton of Coal City, WV, his stepson Dalton Brandstetter of Sandlick, WV, his companion Angel Brandstetter of Sandlick, WV, one grandson Greyson Dean Brown, two brothers David Burrell of Beckley, WV, Edward Burrell and his wife Elisa Burrell of Harper, WV, three sisters Deborah Legg and her husband Mark Legg of Harper, WV, Patricia Morgan and husband David Morgan of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, his nieces and nephews and the rest of his family and friends.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at Melton Mortuary. Pastor Greg Lanham will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Daniel Cemetery, Sandlick, WV.

Pallbearers: Charles Legg, Allen Burrell, Chris Burrell, Brian Meador, David Byrd, and Mike Eley.

Timmy’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and friends.

He also enjoyed NASCAR and Mountaineer football.

Timmy worked in the carpentry profession.

Elbert ‘Chub’ Gillum

FAYETTEVILLE — Elbert “Chub” Gillum, 87, of Fayetteville, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2012, at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley.

Born on January 23, 1925, at Rush, Kentucky, he was the son of the late George and Anna Gillum.

Chub was a retired employee for the Town of Fayetteville.

Survivors include his brother, George Gillum and wife, Billie Jean; two nieces, Dreama Stover and Kathryn Turner; great-niece, Kathy Comer and her children; great-niece, Patricia Stover and her child; great-nephew, Kevin Stover; great-niece, Beth Boysworth and her child; great-nephew, Ricky Turner and his children; and great-niece, Angie Brown and her child.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Pastor Russell Hays officiating. Burial will follow at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at the funeral home.

SUMMERSVILLE — Karen Christine Griffin, 58, of Summersville died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, in the Waters Funeral Chapel at Summersville with Pastor Arnold Nicholas officiating. Burial will follow in the Zoar Cemetery at Keslers Cross Lanes. Friends may call one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

Cynthia M. Hyman

Mrs. Cynthia M. Hyman, 82, of Beckley, died Thursday, November 15, 2012, at the Veterans Medical Center, Beckley, after a long illness.

Born May 10, 1930, in Raleigh, WV, she was the daughter of the late Mildred E. Jones.

Cynthia grew up in the coal camps of Raleigh, and graduated from Stratton High School in Beckley, W.Va., at 16 years old. Despite having a full scholarship to Spelman College in Atlanta, Ga., she entered the Women’s Army Corp, with parental consent.

Mrs. Hyman was a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her sisters Alice J. Mitchell and Sandra R. Evans and brother William E. Jones.

Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Deacon Edward Hyman of Beckley; daughter Tanya MarCia of Placitas, New Mexico; an uncle and hosts of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at Central Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Copney officiating.

Ruth Ann Sears Meador

Ruth Ann Sears Meador, 68, completed her Earthly journey to her new home in Heaven on Thursday, November 15, 2012.

Born May 12, 1944, at Sophia, WV, she was a daughter of the late Edward E. and Irene Wyatt Sears.

Ruth loved painting, crocheting, arts and crafts, and collecting items with strawberries on them. She was a member of the Pine Hill Church of God in McDonald, Tennessee.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon D. Meador, and a brother, Clinton Sears.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving daughter, Danita Swafford and husband, Donald, of Riceville, TN; son, Dennis Meador and wife, Diana, of Hobbs, New Mexico; daughter, Kimberly Bohm and husband, James, of Cleveland, TN; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; five brothers and sisters, Russell Sears of Glen White, WV, Daniel Sears, Sr., of Keyser, WV, Connie Permelia of Crab Orchard, WV, Vernon Sears of Bolt, WV, and Timothy Sears of Lexington, NC.

Donald Herbert ‘Herby’ Norman

Donald Herbert “Herby” Norman, 79, of Crab Orchard, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2012, at Bowers Hospice House.

Born October 22, 1933, at Amigo, WV, he was the son of the late Walter Martin and Locy Shrewsbury Norman.

Donald was a retired brakeman for Norfolk and Southern Railroad. He was a member of the Sophia United Methodist Church, the United Transportation Union and a U.S. Army veteran.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Benny Norman and his wife Betty; sister, Shelby Mann and her husband Luther; brothers-in-law, Herman McMillion and Jack Saunders.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Arlene Yost Norman; sons, Donald H. Norman, II, of Crab Orchard, Philip Norman and Sherri McGraw of Shady Spring; grandchildren, Scott Norman, A.J. Norman and Courtnee James; great-grandchild, Aiden Lester; sisters, Evelyn McMillion of North Tonawanda, NY, Lillie Saunders of Beckley; brother-in-law, Roger Yost and his wife Ruth of Cool Ridge; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012, in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ernie Jarrell officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Mary Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Ellison Gast Paculba

SILVER SPRING, Md. — Betty Paculba, formerly of Beckley, passed away Nov. 13, 2012.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Aspen Hill Christian Church, 13501 Georgia Ave., Aspen Hill, MD 20906.

Clara Lee Sibold

UNION — Mrs. Clara Lee Sibold, age 84, of Union, WV, passed away Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at Allegheny Regional Hospital, Low Moor, VA, following an extended illness.

She was born at Sinks Grove, WV, on January 25, 1928, a daughter of the late William Price and Polly Ann Dingess McNeil.

She was a 55-year member of Union Chapter #122 Order of the Eastern Star, was a local board clerk Selective Service Union office No. 37 and served for 20 years as a local Board No. 1 which consisted of 5 counties, former employee of The Federal Reformatory for Women at Alderson, WV, and had duties as Corrections Officer during the Peace March in 1967 on the Pentagon. She was a Charter Member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 100 of Union, a former security guard for McCurdy Security Co., a member of Union Presbyterian Church, a member of NARFE and Almost Heaven Federal Retirees Association, a 50-year member of Hillsdale CEOS.

She was preceded in death by 4 brothers: Leonard, Alda, W.T., and Herman NcNeil and 2 sisters: Ann Dunlap and Della Dixon.

Surviving are her husband, William Carl (Bill) Sibold of Union; 1 son, William Gregory Sibold and wife Penny of Union; 1 grandson, William Michael Sibold and wife Nancy of Organ Cave; 1 granddaughter, Mary Anne Sibold of Union; and 1 great-granddaughter, Natalee Sibold; also 2 sisters, Jane Pyles of Greenville and Mona Horner of Sarasota, FL.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. Nov. 20, 2012, in Union Presbyterian Church with Rev. Nancy Bulla officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery at Keenan.

Friends may call Monday at Broyles-McGuire Funeral Home in Union from 6 to 8 p.m.

John Vernon Sr.

FAYETTEVILLE — John Vernon Sr., 87, of Fayetteville, passed away Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012.
