Joseph L. Colbird II

ALPOCA — Joseph “Joey” Leonard Colbird II, 42, of Alpoca, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, at his residence.

A celebration of his life will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, at the Wiles, Colbird, Bell Cemetery on Bud Mountain.

For those considering an expression of sympathy, the family requests contributions be made to help defray unexpected expenses to Tankersley Funeral Home, 102 Moran Ave., Mullens, WV 25882.

Stanley Price Dahmer

ROANOKE, Va. — Stanley Price Dahmer of Roanoke, Va., passed away after a brief illness on Sept. 22, 2010, shortly after celebrating his 92nd birthday, while staying with his daughter in Williamson, N.Y.

He is survived by his daughters, Shirley Dahmer and Nancy (Paul) Monachino; grandchildren, Paula (Anthony) Mencucci, Alexander, Leah and Amy Monachino; and a brother, Sterling of Lewisburg, W.Va.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Vivian Dahmer; a brother, Eugene; and a sister, Ruth.

Stanley served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1945, was a member of the Windsor Hills United Methodist Church, and retired after 50 years in the payroll department of Appalachian Power Company.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at the Clifton Cemetery in Lewisburg, W.Va.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to a charity of your choice.

Frances Fortner

Frances Keene Fortner, 67, of Bowie, Md., wife of Kenner Fortner Sr., formerly of the Beckley area, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010.

BARTOW — Charles “Steamboat” Herald died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010.
